totally agree with most of those things you mentioned in the reply though there are still some stuff that i believe should not happen in the future.

When i was a lower ranked player i was totally in love with skitees and ranger's guides on maps, gameplay and strategies. In fact i must admit that those guides/articles were the keystone of who I currently am. ( you know my true identity :) ). It was then that i got to see your guide on XP which acted as a career changer for me. I wouldn't simply be where I am today if that guide was not there.(That is the exact reason why i love you both as a reporter and as an experienced player )

The question I always ask myself whenever after going through articles like these is, Do the lower ranked community keep getting informative and inspiring like those which i used to get when i was at the same position? The answer is yes most of the time...but after going through something like this article, i tend to totally disagree with myself..

Thanks yet again for your valued reply pig

Interesting. It's quite obvious you make the distinction here between Ranger's old guides and Kevred's current guides. Surprisingly, I find them quite similar in style of writing and target audience. However, I'm not sure I've got your point completely yet. Are you dealing with the issue with the topic chosen? Or is the main problem with this article simply the production and writing quality?

I start to see your point more clearly though. Unfortunately, I don't feel this side of it was really brought across in your first post, which seemed a bit of a needless rant on something that did not warrant such a harsh "downer".

Following on from this, would you have any practical suggestions for future topical series or perhaps things we could improve?

Well to be honest i find ranger's guides to be more in depth with tons of valuable info to dig into. I was still able to learn tons on regular maps even at the rank general just by going through his articles.

Though i have to agree with you that this article IS somewhat entertaining ( I can imagine how lower rankers feel about this), I still believe this article is not suited to be put in the newspaper. The main reasons are as following.

1) I still tend to believe that rank plays a crucial role on the way a player sees this game. After going through letchik wolk's guide on firebird at my WO ranks i believed myself to be able to write such a guide on thunder. ( i was even about to contact the reporter squad ) but thinking back about it now ,I'm glad i didn't do/ waste my time on such thing cause even if i did I'm sure either it would have been simply rejected or been something exactly like this . IMO to become a good author of guides (from guides i imply articles on gameplay and strategies) one needs to have good amount of experience/ time spent on this game. What is the point of allowing players who have had a little (even no experience at all ) to contribute to such articles. You can't simply risk feeding the young( lower ranked) minds with falsely and misleading information and ruining their game. I believe that the best way to stop such thing happening would be to add a rank limiting the members of the reporter squad who can contribute to such articles.( something like brigadier would be nice).

2) I also believe that this article is not detailed and constructive enough to be added to the articles section. I'm sure you will notice the difference if you go through a one written by ranger. This article also lacks info on some of the best sniping spots to snipe at seruphov( some time back i was a great lover of the map seruphov myself). One example would be behind the rock which is on the right side of the blue base. ( which i believe to be the best sniping spot at seruphov) and here's a result to prove that

aM1OmSb.png

played with rail wasp and i was spawning on the right side of the blue base.)

I agree with you. I was a bit too "harsh" on my first reply. I didn't intend to offend kevred in any manner with it though I'm sure i did the exact thing through it :(. Maybe his skills are better used in contributing to stories/poems of the newspaper?

as of the suggestions you asked me. I certainly do have some to offer,

1) Start a new series on how to play in official clan war maps with xp.

2) Another series consisting of recent starladder news, info of EN clans that made it to pro /semi series, interviews with well known clan leaders/ players of such clans. I'm 200% sure that the beginning of such set of articles will help the EN's eternal long dream of reaching star series.

hope my suggestions helped,

best regards,

athena

This is exactly one of those reasons why you shouldn't have allowed lower ranked members of the community to join the reporter squad. True, they might have writing skills and the vocabulary that is needed to join the squad but they should not have been allowed to contribute to the guides section till they pass a certain rank. IMO this is an entirely worthless guide on a worthless map with entirely worthless info (with the exception for a "very" small no. Of lower ranked players). What we do need however are some more informative and inspiring guides like those written by experienced players like hog. Guides like these will never allow the EN community to dent the already behemoth RU community.

No, simply no. Experience and rank does play a certain role on a players knowledge on this game. My point here is that  lower ranked players should not be allowed to contribute to the guides section with their lack of experience. IMO it will only result in worthless guides like this that doesn't play any role whatsoever in improving players mindset or  skills. Let me explain why.

1) Subject matter of this guide is simply worthless.- though it might be of some value to lower ranked players this guide is completely invaluable to medium to high ranked players. I am certainly sure every warrant officer that has played on the map seruphov even for once has an IQ  to understand where to camp/snipe on the map. What kevred (no offense intended) has done here is describe those already known stuff using his elaborate vocabulary. You can clearly see the difference between a well written guide with valuable info  ( take hogs XP guide for example) and this guide here. The different of knowledge both of those guides individually give us is massive. What do you really expect  yourself to do in the future by simply knowing some sniping spots in the map seruphov ( which is not even an official clan war map) + a map that becomes more and more rare in latter ranks?

2) The quality of this guide is really bad - I'm sure  you will notice the fact that this guide is not detailed enough even to make it to the guides section.  If you don't believe me go have a look at the press archive section. You will see how much time and effort has been spent on each and every single guide there.

Following are some of my suggestions to improve the guides section.

1) Only allowed players  with recognized skills/knowledge and experience to contribute to the guides section.

2) Ask those reporters to target every bit of the audience from private to gissimo rather than simply targeting a lower ranked audience.

3) Try to inspire the younger ( i.e lower ranked) generation of tankers through the guides section.

4) Try to get skilled/experienced members of the EN community to contribute to the guides section and if they don't have enough writing skills, form a small squad and complete the guide as a team.

5) Try and target the SL and format battles as much as possible. One of the reasons why the EN community has not yet managed to officially get a place in star series (AK were "chosen" on season 1 but they lost it as well) is simply because the lack of knowledge on SL among EN community players.

I have no personal vendetta against kevred and I'm extremely sorry if my opinions offended him in any manner. These are just some opinions from an experienced tanker.....

Ok, so first, new account, old player, so no whining about my account.  (Old one was shared, gave it up, they kept it, I get to start on the bottom)

Now, first things first.  Team players (clan in particular) are RUINING it for everyone with their "football" sports attitude.  Guides like these ARE important, and sniping SHOULD BE a VERY LARGE PART of a combat based game, ESPECIALLY armor with distance.  Slug Fest and Clan Maps do not make up the entirety of Tanki and people who immeadiately turn to the "sport" of Tanki suck, period.  This is a game about killing enemies.  Sure, you respawn, sure you don't reallly die, but we play to get a sense of that.  STAYING ALIVE, NOT CAPTUREING FLAGS is a big part of the game play for many of us.  The stupid notion of just rush in, do what you can, die, come back, is a disposable attitude, just like the person more than likely doing it.  I wish for more guides like these, and I wish E-Sport caln members could go do their league thing far away from us regular players that actually enjoy the notion of combat and killing off your enemies, rather than scoring points all day long by rushing flags.

Now, all that said, this article was worthless, pointless, and did not show more than ONE decent place to snipe from on the red team, and I could be bothered to open the blue list, it was that bad.

Red Team:

1.  Back Left Paved Ledge:

You own that side of the map, PERIOD.  Your turret moves fast enough to address all four (yes, four) points of entry when scoped here.  One Isidia behind you and the other team will likely cease to give much chase here.  Now, if we are talking team sports and CTF, your teams flag runner will be covered for the duration of the map crossing until at your base, where the other team might come around and catch you (That's the rest of the teams problem, your job as sniper is done, holding down 1 third of the map is no small feat)

2.  Left Map Edge Island:

Goes without saying.  You have eyes on the ramp, the opposite side trail, and on the base.  Wanna make wasps cry, just park here and pick the m off as the run with the flag down the opposite side.  Hard to get to this location, but the same for enemies too.  Bridge is where they get you, unless they have a sniper camped up on the other ledge.  LAser now makes this not so great, but careful use of it to kill flag runners means folks will generally take a while to find you.

3.  Right Map Just Past Base Buildings:

Camp out on the path with laser on the rocks, there are two point of ingress and you can usually catch them before they can react.  IF you move up a little and feeling brave you can snipe on the plaza below.

Blue Team:

(Note:  Blue team really just gets the "shaft" (har har) on this map.  Few Good locations and almost always a compromise)

1.  Back Left MAp Edge, On Ledge:

Ok, go up the ramp, hit the wall, back up.  Keep going, keep going.  Look you now have eyes on the front center of the enemy base.  From here you can snipe spawns and flag runners foolish enough to cut across the front of the center building.  If you move arounda little up there, you can hit things further to the right of the map too (I camp, I move about as much as a tree, but yeah, it can be done).  Also, great for covering flag runners coming straight down the path.  They make the turn and blast anything enemy that is giving chase.  CAREFUL, this spot has a blind spot, and the front end of your tank is vulnerable to sniping if you don't park just right.

2.  Back Left Behind Ramp Outcropping:

Pick a small hull, back into this location, eyes on flag, enough said.  They will figure it out eventually, prepare to use this spartanly.  You will get a few shots where they don't see you coming down the ramp, take those freebies, they really throw the opponents game off if pack.  Top target, Isidia, then fire and freeze.  Of course, fast flag capture vehicles always take priority.

3.  Right Back Map, Path Next to Building:

This is more honorable mention, the ramp there makes it a death sentence really.  Now, that said, IF YOU HAVE AN AGGRESIVE TEAM, they will be all over the enemy base, and defenders will be spawning constantly.  I have killed up to 5 tanks in a row from here as they enter the fray on their side and I peacefully sniped them from here.  Again, this is a conditional spot, based upon your team.  All said and told, you can shoot and scoot from here, but popping back out might be meet with a charging shielded flag charge, and it's game over.

4.  Regretfully pointing this one out, Center Back, Behind Building:

Turn your turret, get behind the building, and pop out and shoot at anything in that vast expanse in front of you.  Pop off enemy Snipers up top, runners dumb enough to cross the plaza, etc.  You can rack up some serious kills this way, but you're not "supporting your team" and will get a lot of grief for this spot, AND it seems to be a favorite path of egress for SO MANY red team members that you almost always get smashed in here.

So there you have it.  Serpove right now is my favorite after Dusseldorf.  Snipers can make this map painful to play, of course again, Blue team might as well kick rocks in terms of sniping if the red team is good though, expect a 50/50 ratio in terms of stats at best as blue team usually.

We need not harp toom uch more on the stupid laser, but remember that sniping now is a hard game.  DO IT FROM COVER.  CAMP AND PICK your shots.  Play for the team, but don't sacrifice for the team.  You area sniper, your job is to keep the enemy morale low, kill flag runners, and cover your team's flag runs.

Didn't proof this, might be riddled with issues, content is perfect though.  Snipers go give regular players and clans men hell.  Be the one that everyone wishes was not there.  OH, and I read and articles about camping.  There is NOTHING unethical about picking a spot and hanging out and killing people in this game, that's your job, just do it where it counts.
