They're clearly intended to be a drawback, On the alterations page on wiki it colours the stat changes as red, implying negative.

When exactly do you find them helpful?

Easier to hit enemies up close as well as easier to hit multiple enemies with one shot.

That is true, but myself I have zero problems hitting people up close with the regular pellet spread, and find it easier to capitalize on my impact force as much as I can, when pellet spread is reduced. I also prefer to only hit one enemy, because that way they are more likely to die, whereas if you waste pellets on another enemy, it is a 2v1 for longer, and you might not be able to kill them both with the 3 shots.

and u can add my favorite alteration, Dragons Breath, onto that, and u have 300-600 extra damage. but this is pure speculation, bc i've heard that alterations unlocked at early ranks aren't that effective at later ranks (unless if u are talking about MFS on rico, which all of us aren't)

True with stock, but slugger on the other hand.

It's not entirely fair to slugger to include it in this because it has reduced rotation speed, and slugger is generally meant to be used at a greater range. It's still very possible to get a direct hit off with slugger in close range, and you could actually get the most out of your impact force by using slugger hitting someone off-centre.

Good observations. Dragon's Breath is designed to hit people at contact range, and get bonus damage for it. Unfortunately it seems to get overshadowed by other hammer alterations at high ranks. You should be able to use it for quite some time still though.

True that it's still possible to hit someone up close with slugger, but its a lot harder to do so than with stock or dragons breath.

The impact force is best suited against thunder, striker, Gauss, shaft, railgun, magnum, and probably slower reloading smokies and hammers.

I think what slugger could use is a range buff while dragons breaths gets a range nerf.

It's not that much harder if you can rotate your turret in time.

Hammer would have an advantage over those other turrets regardless of impact force if it is close range. Hammer's greatest adversary is Twins, and 7 pellets after 7 pellets aimed off-centre is its only defence. It's also important to leverage an impact force advantage against ricochet.

With small values, I would agree with those changes.

Oh I forgot to say this but tighter pellets means less vertical auto aim to utilize while more spread out pellets means more vertical auto aim to utilize.

I'm joining this thread because I just bought Hammer.

Hello :P

Should I go for high-capacity clip?

Play around with stock for a bit, and see if you like the feel of the turret, and try to find some way that you would like the turret to be better, and then reconsider alterations for it.

I already bought Slugger at so I'm playing with that right now, and I like it. I did forget about the range downside, so I'll try playing stock and keep in mind that I would have 5 shots. I did play it at M1 when I bought the Titan/Hammer M1 kit (even though I already had Titan - the kit was cheaper than the turret separately :P) but I found it underwhelming and never really used it since.

I'm liking the M2 version though, and I might consider taking it to M3 sometime before Marshal (but I already have 4 M3s so maybe that's not necessary).

Also, 1600 posts! :)

Dragons Breath is a lot more OP than people tend to give credit.

At max range, the two ticks of burn damage makes up for some pellets missing the target.

At close range, those two ticks turn it into an upgrade.

Probably the king of Hammer alterations right now is High-Capacity Clip. You constantly face off against Duplet players and shame them by beating them over again. Have a no-forgiveness policy to them and you might just get them to rage quit.

As long as they don't have they're double shots ready to fire.

Those have been around for quite some time.  Why are they all-of-a-sudden good?  Get a buff recently?

A big one.

They no longer have a 10% longer shot reload, they shoot just as fast as Stock Hammer now. And lastly, their clip reload time increase was reduced from 35% to 15%.

Meaning that It reloads the 5 shots in 5.75 seconds as opposed to Stock Hammer's 5 seconds to reload 3 shots.

Stock Hammer is being left in the dust.

So you're saying that HCAC is now an upgrade from stock hammer?

There are situations where Stock Hammer comes out on top. But for the most part, HCAC is better. It has to do work to become an upgrade, but it's not much work.

Let's wait to see if the Youtubers make a video about it being OP or not.

So 3 alterations of hammer can be considered an upgrade now.

· Dragons breath

· HCAC

· Adaptive Reload

While duplet isn't really an upgrade, more of an overkill alteration and slugger IMO is a downgrade, but some might view it as what an alteration is supposed to be like, so this one is debatable.

WOW!  2 extra shots for a 15% reload penalty on each shot.  Yeah... that's an upgrade -especially in the upper ranks where there's higher level of protections and you need more than 3 shots to kill.

Yay Dragon's Breath   has received a buff!! now it i has less of pellet spread which means that my hammer can easily shoot all it's pellet projectiles at the enemy tanks and then BURN them down to crisps..     Thanks developers for removing the crazy pellet spread.. i can get more damage done. imma really grateful.      Also thanx for nerfing duplet coz i did not buy it anyway. ( probably never will- at least till  it is buffed  again).

Agreed, the spread made it quite useless. Now, Dragon Breath is actually playable.

I disagree, the spread made it easier to hit targets on considerably higher and lower elevations and also made it easier to hit multiple targets at once and those that are circling you.
