Yeah. For example, I consider slugger as a bad choice for hammer (even though it's really cheap). It may make more pellet hit the target, but at the expense of losing the vertical auto aim (which is really useful in hitting targets on higher or lower ground) and the horizontal spread (which helps in in hitting targets that are circling you).

I haven't even mentioned the slower rotation speed. What I meant was that if you're using slugger, you would have to be a lot more precise than you would with stock hammer.

Has nothing to do with me "liking larger pellet spread". I just see an advantage in larger pellet spread while others either fail or are too ignorant to see it.

Duplet when it was first implemented had a 20% reduction in clip reload time, so while Stock Hammer reloaded in 5 seconds, Duplet would reload in 4 seconds. That clip reload time deduction was removed at the end of January. 

 

Right now, it has no change to its clip reload time compared to Stock, so it's at 5 seconds for fully reloading. The increased pellet spread means you have to get up closer to deal your full damage consistently. Can't believe all of these changes to try to balance this thing. At least they're trying.

Wait, that's why you use Hunter instead of Viking, to hit people higher than you.

You know what hammers can hit players on higher elevations? Basically any hammer that's not using slugger.

But slugger still comes with the range benefit which is SO useful. Sure, Stock has the advantage with auto-aim, but I still think Slugger is better particularly when paired with a hull that can rock (i.e. literally anything but Viking ♿)

hammer's good with both hornet and hunter.

as for alterations i would suggest you to go for slugger and dragon's breath both.

slugger because with it you can aim more easily ( if you are beginner with this turret then this alteration will help you understand how hammer works.) you may note that even after buying 3 alterations of hammer- sluuger, dragon breath and HCAC ( 5-clip) .. i still use slugger many times... it is not a bad alteration.

and go for dragon breath too coz it will allow you to get more damage done ( i believe upto 300 fire damage for 2 seconds.)

 

Slugger is good, but you'll find that most of your engagements are up close. Plus, since Slugger tightens up the spread, running into someone by surprise can cause you to miss your shot partially or even entirely, while you'll have a much better chance of coming back with the regular spread.

Dragon's Breath is alright - nothing special, nothing bad. I don't have any complaints towards it. It's cheap and gets the job done, but it's not amazing.

Now HCAC - that is one hell of an alteration. You can go up against Duplet players on equal footing and still humiliate them. It pairs extremely well with Hunter and can stop an entire wave of attackers coming into your base to spawntrap you. Winning against people with M3+ protections is actually not even that hard, too. You just keep blasting and they'll go down. This alt is also great for wiping out the JGR, or at least heavily injuring it. Probably the best alteration right now in today's meta.

Thanks for both of your opinions. I think my first choice will be HCAC, as I like the idea of longer sustained damage.  

 

I feel like it will be terrible on hornet though, so I’ll get dragons breath/slugger if I have the crystals to spare.

 

A question I have is whether 5 clips is still too much for a medium hull(hunter).  Will I die before using it to its full potential?

Any legend hammer players here?

If so can you explain to me how a point blank DD hammer shot can only score 49 damage points? If he had 50 hammer protection and DA equipped I should still have done a minimum of 150 points per shot. It was on only one player and never scored more than mid double digits on him. 

 

Is somebody cheating?

Could this have been a mutant snowman with ?? protection against all turrets?

Not in a dome and not any different looking to any other tanker. I came across him a couple of times and just guessed it was a bad shots. Then he dropped from a bridge right on top of me and lay on his side with the bottom of his Hunter/firebird at point blank so I gave it both barrels and scored 49 on each hit. 

 

Maybe it's just me. I've been getting some really weird numbers lately. Vulcan M3 20/20 on DD scoring 20's and low 30's. That's 1/10th of what I would score against a totally unprotected tank. Is there a module/drug/drone combo that can do that?

I can't say anything about Vulcan but for Hammer, it sounds like you're doing ~1% of your damage. My best guess would be that that player you encountered was a mutant Snowman with ?? protection against you.
