The attack happened because they drew cartoons of Prophet Mohammed. Apparently you are not supposed to draw an image of their prophet.

@Miqdad5, those events happen regularly in those countries, e.g. Nigeria 2000 people were killed like a week ago, does anyone else here know about this?

I am surprised a lot of people here did not hear the sentence "Je suis Charlie" because it was all over the news and they kept bringing it up every hour or so.

Anyways, I am going to share my opinion about what I think about "Je suis Charlie".  When I first saw it on the news I saw videos of people saying "We are showing that the attackers can't take our freedom of speech away." But then a couple days later everyone started trash talking Islam and stuff. Like legit, why does everyone always blame the entire religion for actions of 3 people, shouldn't we blame the 3 people and not the religion? I also noticed on the news when a guy who isn't Muslim and commits a crime they are called a murderer but when a Muslim commits a crime he is called a terrorist. Also I think the drawings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) were a bit insulting but you should not kill someone over a drawing. But yea that's my opinion, so I could say I am on no ones side.

We should spread peace and not hate. :)

They didn't need to be KILLED for insulting a religion. They insulted EVERY religion, yet, they were killed by extremists. If god is all forgiving why can't he get over someone drawing a cartoon of him? Did they need to be killed because they drew CARTOONS of a fictional man?

Well your post might brew up more controvesies than what charliebo did :p . Anyways I belive humanity comes before religion , if aNY religious (not refering to anyone in particular) practise harms anyone , our conscious and practical approach is needed .

An yes , no one deserves to be killed for drawing cartoons nor should anyone try to supress or harm the sentiments of others :)

In nowhere of Quran written people can kill others. Actually, Quran says that killing one person is as bad as killing everyone. The main reason of Muslims killing others is probably whbs. They say that if you're a bad person, you won't go to heaven, but if you become a Muslim and kill people, you will. And other people believe them and kill people thinking it's good for everyone.

Over blasphemy, yes, the punishment is death in Islam, however, there is a condition to this. The punishment may only be given once the offence is proven, and still an individual can not offer death/punishment. If there is an Islamic state, and the court approves the offence and punishment, only then can it be served, that too only in a place where a Government approving this is established. What the offenders did was not correct, but the way they were punished is wrong too. If a government does not approve and the court does not approve that they should be hanged/punished, it is something we cannot intervene and we should understand that the only way we would be able to stop them would be by educating them to respect everyone. For muslims, they cartoon they made were offensive beyond compare. I can't justify any person in this place. Both were wrong.

Since the french government is not serious over these and does not offer even slight punishments, there is nothing that can be done in that state.

JeSuisCharlie was horrible, especially such acts such as the policeman who after firing at their getaway car was wounded, and while he lay on the ground, one of them (the attackers) asked him "shall we kill you?" He replied with "no don't worry boss", and was shot pointblank in the face.

From what I've seen in the news, if horrible events, like the one that occurred in Nigeria, take place in countries the do not affect the top countries of the world (trade, politics, etc) or are frienemies/non-allies, then they won't take the time to broadcast it as much as they do for other events like the one in France. For example, I remember in the US the Sandy-Hook shooting where 24 kids were killed. On the same day that news article was published, a terrorist bomb had gone off and killed 100+ in a market somewhere in the middle-east, which killed both adults and children. There were pages and pages on the Sandy-Hook shooting but only a small corner article on the bombing.......

I totally agree with you, although I'm more "JeNeSuisPasCharlie.

It has become popular because it hurt the freedom of speech. Of course many people die everyday, but we don't talk about them all over the world, that's because their dead is a private affaire, whereas the freedom of speech is a universal value, so everybody feels concerned.

He and his newspaper still keep insulting us! Those guys are looking for trouble ok.

It doesn't excuses the fact that they killed them. Nothing can excuse it.

This topic should be closed too much religious arguements and quarrels are occuring.

That's exactly the problem with the Tanki Online Forum rules.

Please don't make this a religious discussion. I completely understand that the Muslim community feels insulted by the weekly paper Charlie Hebdo. This paper doesn't only make jokes about the Islam though. Other religions are also put in the pillory. In my opinion we must keep in mind that there's a big difference between the normal Muslim community and the extremists. I hope we can all agree that all religions are equivalent and that none of them is better than the others.

It might be a good time to change the subject to debate about.

Subject updated. New subject: A.I. (Artificial Intelligent). Will we be able to make computers smarter then humans? Is it save? What will happen, then? Will they solve the question that every teen-ager asks himself: What are we doing on earth, what are we, what is our goal?
