I would buy alienware, no slowness and fast throughout...

Waste of money.

PS I'm getting a MSI GE70 2PC-475XNL. It's a very good laptop for a normal price (without OS, so you can install your own OS). If you want to know the specs, go Google it.

If you want a little more flash with your gaming laptop, and have a little more to spend, Alienware is the way to go, the most power efficient GPUs, and just enough RAM to make sure you won’t lag

I'd personally take a desktop over a laptop for gaming. You'll get more performance for the price and you can upgrade it easily in the future. Also, most people will almost never move their gaming laptop around anyway, so the portability is wasted.

Anyway, if you're still sure you want a laptop, I'd choose the MSI.

If you have the space, get a desktop PC; Reeco stated the most important pros for it.

Desktops also last quite a bit longer than laptops, especially those (stupid) hard drives.

Having a decent laptop is very convenient though, you can carry it around anywhere.

Ohh and get a decent office chair aswell if you bought a desktop PC... I have learned the hard way.

You need to be specific. Those names are still somewhat generic, except macbook pro (obviously).

One thing I will first consider is the speed and manufacturer of the ethernet card. 30 mins or 3 mins of 20GB backup to LAN depends on the type of the ethernet card, 1000T or 100T .(Flamewars on USB 3.0 please go elsewhere.) Is it from Realtek or Intel, Broadcom or others ?

Multicore works for the right software, office 2010 (yes-from MS), open source software (very rare, not samba, not libreoffice, openoffice.org, a lot others).

Laptops should not be for gaming. Instead, take a fast train home.

MSI would be the best choice for a gaming laptop, if it has good specs. However Macbooks are often packed with performance features, as their prices suggest.

If you like Windows, go MSI. If you want a Mac, go Macbook.

I bet you can't install IOS and that adds additional costs  <_<
