For those who have yet not started installation and want to do it in a safer manner:

Hey,
I have found yet another way to download and install windows 10 (this may be useful for those who have not done it yet and do not want to take chance in deleting files from C:/...)
Also, maybe @Jtipt.The.Killer, you can add this to your first post.
Here's the method:

  •
  • All you need is a genuine copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, Microsoft’s Windows 10 Media Creation Tool, and an Internet connection
  • Download the tool
  • In the dialog, Next button and Windows 10 will start to download, which may take a while if you’re on a slow connection.
  • There are a few automatic processes.
  • Hit “Accept” on this screen when demanded.
  • Some check are done...and THEN!! Finally, the preparation is complete.
  • You can change what the Windows 10 installer will keep, but be warned that if you hit “Back” you’ll have to go through the updates and checks again.
  • Then the installation starts...Your PC will restart several times....This might take a while...but all automatic.
  • After this is all done, go through the standard process of setting up the new OS. You have successfully completed the installation of your windows!

For a complete and detailed guide, go to How to Download and Install Windows 10. And, here's the link for downloading the Media Creation Tool from the Official Microsoft Website - Windows 10

EDIT:

For those who have old PC, they'll need to run the application as administrator.

To do that, Locate the Media Creator Tool on your hard disk( its usually found in This PC -> Downloads) --> Right Click it --> Click "Run as Administrator"

But, in the 2 PCs which have original Windows (and in which I have booked Windows 10 upgrade), I'm waiting for my computer to officially get it. My dad will be livid if I delete anything from the C: folder :P

And as for Windows' new browser, Microsoft Edge, how is it? People tell me it's pretty good.

By the method that I gave to download windows 10, it doesn't require you to delete anything, but just install the Media creation tool from Microsoft website.

Sweet.

Thank You..:)

But my dad'll only download it when it actually pops up as a dialog box on the PC.... always puts his trust on the most reliable (and ) source

From the EULA :

"6. ... The software periodically checks for system and app updates, and downloads and installs them for you. ... By accepting this agreement, you agree to receive these types of automatic updates without any additional notice."

Older Windows versions cannot do this. That is one of the reasons why windows 10 is better than previous versions. Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise have the ability to "Defer upgrades".

Windows as a service.

I'm going to wait 2 or 3 weeks first so they can iron out any initial bugs.

You took the words out of my mouth.. :V

Why are you in such a hurry to update while you'll probably end up getting bugs and weird glitches? Just wait few days then check it out, when it's actually done.

You have what version of Windows?

Wait, when did you get a good pc?

I thought you had Linux.

C'mon... .-. Just because I use an i3 laptop doesn't mean it's totally useless. I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro right now

So does this mean that even if I have downloaded it, Windows 10 Pro can prolong the installation time until it actually arrives for me? It would make sense if that was how it worked. lol

Windows as a service.

  1. I got Windows 10 Home in my laptop..it had the feature to "Defer" updates..
  2. Defering updates would not be so good... When you defer upgrades, new Windows features won’t be downloaded or installed for several months. Note that deferring upgrades will prevent you from getting the latest Windows features as soon as they’re available.

That means deferring is not a very useful feature for those who want to get updates the fastest and the quickest.

But Yes!, its useful for those who want to wait and get the final version of any update....

My product key is invalid. Do I need to spent  €135 for a free windows 10?

Are you kidding me... I've just done a clean install because the upgraded version was super slow.
