[Issue 48] Results: Dramatic Photo

Max 2 consolations, and I liked their photos because they had some special aspects. I liked the thought in the holiday theme from phoenixes' entry, and the free running effect that williew's hard-to-capture screenshot had.

While yours was indeed very nice, I'd actually already seen many pictures looking nearly the same and so it sadly didn't strike me as original (but, again, it did look pretty good). There were also some slight improvements you could've made to let it be a bit more dramatic and distinct from the other Isida-chain-type of pics, like actually taking the picture with the beautiful skybox in the background which is pretty much what Rio is famous for. Instead, the back of the beach was the picturesque background. As for Zeus' entry, I honestly thought it wasn't worth even 5k. It was so basic, and relied completely on its caption. It was not a bad picture though. That being said, had I not been limited to only 2 consolations, I would definitely have decided on more.

Finally, to be clear: please don't be upset if you didn't earn any crystals despite how much time you might have put into your entries - but "the amount of work that I assume this person put into this photo compared to how much work the others probably did" was not one of the things I was judging.

Thanks for the clarification. May I ask why I didn't win?

XD guys, I'm surprised as much as you are about not winning a prize, but it happens. He had limited flexibility with the winners; and theyre not bad at all. Theres always next time! :D

Not he. NS is a she..

P-W is a she, too....

My post wasn't supposed to make other people question why their entries weren't picked... sorry. I just felt Zeus and my entries could have been at least consolation worthy.

Wat those are not dramatic at all

Hence the vacant 1st place spot :/ ...and, actually, they're much more dramatic than your alt's, so I don't see how your point is valid

^

How to post when you have nothing to say. You didn't even participate in the contest...

Nothing "Grand" about a 30k prize, but good luck to the winners who got less then the amount they were promised

You didn't participate either <_< and yes, good luck to the winners who have already won, hhh...

I mean, I'd understand your decision on consolations if you could just explain why their entries were "better" than ours.

In no contests run by the newspaper, anywhere on Tanki or anywhere in the world are the chosen winners 'justified' versus all unsuccessful entries. It is completely unreasonable to expect such explanation, as you seem to be doing.

If you really want such an explanation, then you could always ask politely rather than using such a tone of expectation, recognising that a judge would be going beyond his/her reasonable obligations to provide such an explanation.

Prizes are never promised. If you take the time to think about it, contests run by the newspaper, anywhere on Tanki or anywhere in the world almost always offer prizes but almost never promise all prizes will necessarily be given out.

Like many contests, newspaper contests reserve the right to award or not to award prizes based on the standard of entries submitted. As such and with this in mind, the non-awarding of the top prize has taken place a number of times in the past.

It's up to you guys if you can't help complaining about unreasonable expectations or unjustified assertions that you hold to be valid. Maybe it would be much nicer if we all congratulated the winners on their achievement and shared our opinions in a constructive and respectful way, instead of players always making self-centred and/or unreasonable complaints every time a newspaper contest takes place?

You're pics may have been "dramatic", but obviously not as "dramatic" as the winners. You may think otherwise, but it's ultimately the press' decision. It happens in every contest. Get over it, and try better next issue.

So you're saying that you promise a prize to the winner but then you don't give the prize to him on purpose?

I don't think that happens anywhere else

You're completely correct - but that's not what I'm saying at all. We didn't promise that the prize must be won, and based on the lack of a truly deserving entry, we didn't give. That happens elsewhere, too.

This looks a lot like a promise. For example, sirogo got first place, therefore he should get 30,000 crystals

What you're doing is like offering a 10,000$ prize to the winner of a marathon but when he  reaches the end you tell him that he was too slow so he will only get 2,000$

Those were indeed the prizes on offer. 1st place is typically awarded to the best entry, and there was no single entry distinctly judged to be deservingly superior in comparison with other entries and the judging criteria. Thus, two very good entries which were both awarded 2nd place.

If you can see something I can't (e.g. "We promise to give 1st place out"), then do let us know and we'll reverse the decision. Else, please try to understand that we did not promise to give out the 1st place prize.
