I think that the creator of a battle should be in controll of if the battle is private or not. Like, when the creator hits tab to see stats, there is a option of check or uncheck private

Correct me if I understood you wrong - you mean you shall be able to know if you're in a pro battle, then it is private or public, right?

 

Well there's no need for such a feature...its obvious that private battles are made for 'invited friends only', and one doesn't forget that he entered a private battle...and even if he does, due to any reason, he can ask other friends present there...(BTW what's the need to know it? :P )

Well there's no need for such a feature..

I think he means that the creator should be able to switch a battle from public to private and vice versa. Would be useful for events like StG or mine hunts...

Now the option to toggle a battle as private (in this case only authorizing entry to a certain group of people) is implemented by Patch 829 which allows the Battle creator to set and disable a password to make the battle password protected.
