Unbalanced CTF Matches

There are far too many occurances where in a CTF match the teams are unbalanced and the team with overwhelming numbers can cap at will. Why is this allowed to go on? Allowing one team to get routed simply because additonal players will not sign on to a losing match is not good game play, especially when it is so easily fixed. The early termination doesnt help in this case because the team with superior numbers runs up the score before it kicks in.

 

What I would propose is for there to be a default in CTF that when the teams are unbalanced that flags cannot be captured and the match continues as a TDM until there is a balance. This would keep teams from running up the score when it is 8 vs 2 and subjecting players to a ridiculous waste of their time and supplies.

 

There are several basic gameplay issues that Tanki has. Why is it that the developers appear to spend so little time trying to address them? If you creatively address competitive balance in the game it makes the experience better for everyone.

There is already two options to solve this issue.

1. Turning Auto Balance ON

2. Turning Auto Finish ON

 

if these two are ON, you will get what you wanted, don't tell me now that no one does that ! , you can create a battle like this and ask people to join it, if people didn't join that means that you are the only one who wants to join such battles.

I rarely create battles, but instead join battles that friends are playing in. I honestly didn't realize that auto balance could be turned off for battles. I would assume that this allows a player to join a team regardless of the team sizes.

If the autobalance is on, there is still the issue I described above. It is a very common issue and is so easily addressed. Auto Finish does nothing since that by the time it actually kicks in the advantaged team has capped an overwhelming amount of flags. To make it worse the players on the small team that have been good sports are screwed out of game time and get no crys to show for it. Then, as I have seen with too much frequency, the Auto Finish will be aborted since players will "join" but never materialize due to lag, so the cycle continues.

This is such an easy issue to fix. Why the lack of interest by the developers to address it?

I just verified that in a standard format match, there is no option to change the Auto Balance and Auto Finish. Perhaps that is an option on ProBattles. It has been a while since playing ProBattles, so I am not sure.

@Tareq_Jami, I have created countless battles. Not once have I ever seen these options. The only battles I have not created is Pro. So, are there option a feature of Pro battlefield creation? If so then your condescending response was unwarranted. Simply because not every battlefield created is a Pro.

That feature is only available in PRO battles.

Otherwise all normal battle modes, both Auto- Balance and Finisher are always activated.

 

Well, do you mean that if a team is wining vs another who only got 2-3 members cuz all other left the battle, their players should be moved to the other team ? that is unfair, and that will never happen

Actually, that could be an option, as long as the players moved could keep their score. Unfortunately I think the scoring methodology is problematic. Instead, the solution should be as I proposed. if the teams are unbalanced, the flag ghost so that no one can move or capture them. The match would default to a TDM at that point so that the battle fund would still accumulate and the players obtain scores. Once there is a balance the match continues as normal. They point of emphasis is that if you have worked hard in a match you should not see your battle fund reward disappear because some of your team did, or you had no team to begin with.

Another place where this solves problems is when there is connection issues. There have been several occurrences where I have been in a great match and due to connection issues half of one team disappears. In the time that is needed for those tankers to get back into the match, the other team takes advantage and farms 4-5 flags.

Now I understood your idea, well, what if the battle is without a timer, should the player wait forever ?

or let's say you need to cap just a few flags more and the battle will end, but the other team left, so should you stay for 30 mins ??

Of course not. In that case the Auto Finish would address the issue. By no means am I suggesting that there is not a place for Auto Finish. It has its place. But the 5minutes or so for tankers that are getting destroyed while Auto Finish sits to kick in is maddening. A CTF battle often swings enormously by just  a 2-3 tank differential - times the Auto Finish will not kick in. Also, if the match is tied, and half your team leaves, then you see your battle fund evaporate because the advantaged team will cap a multitude of flags before the match ends.

Some players have class and will not do this, but they are far in the minority. Instead the advantaged team will often load up on supplies, spawn kill, and cap for the duration of the match.
