Alternative critical hit mechanic for Smoky

Nope, this clearly nerfs smoky. Hitting 10 shots in a row without missing is hard unless you're fighting a mammoth with needle with turret having no impact force to make you miss and taking 10 shots which would be easy to aim. The probability of not missing in any other scenario is highly unlikely. Why not think of ideas to nerf isida instead?

Exactly. This is supposed to make it easier to fight heavy hulls and slightly harder to fight light hulls. I noticed that quite a few players complain that Smoky is OP against light hulls and not strong enough against heavies, so I think this idea is a great compromise.

 

And like I said before - the 10 shots required to get to maximum is not final. If it proves to be too difficult to land 10 in a row, then it can be lowered to something more reasonable, like 5.

I love smoky just the way it is. 

THUNDER IS BETTER. 

Meh when i was you're rank i though smoky was the lamest gun in the game but you have no idea what smoky m4 is.....

I actually just tested Smoky a bit on Polygon and noticed that I can barely hit 5 shots in a row, so I think that 5 seems to be the most optimal value for maximum damage. That way if you're good enough, most of the time you'll be able to get 4-5 hits in a row, which will give you above-average damage compared to Smoky today. And for the more professional players Smoky will be a very powerful weapon if they can land all their shots on target. I think if you can hit enemy tanks more than 5 times consecutively and without pausing between shots, then having that extra damage on every shot is definitely well-deserved.

Smoky is a deadly and versatile gun as it is, without critical hits at all..  I miss the days when crits were extreemely rare but almost always destroyed the target in one shot.  

 

I am never expecting a critical hit, but it makes me happy when it happens...

The fact that crits from smoky are random is why I love it. In the old days you can hit anything and get a crit - I accidentally hit a wall once and got crit on that. Was funny. 

 

Also to that guy who said smoky's dps is less than twins and it cant take twins head on - do play with smoky a bit more, you'd find that it can indeed take twins head on and win.

Smoky seems pretty darn well balanced right now. Not sure it needs any change. Also, I'm not sure if this is a nerf or a buff, but I am leaning towards nerf.

However... it will make smoky weak for none skilled players. No one will like it.

Only at m0 and m1 levels. When I first bought m2 smoky I said, "If I can get 15 kills in 15 minutes with m1, I will buy m2 smoky". I later just barely got a fifteenth kill right as time ran out and then I bought m2 and it was easy to get 15 kills in 7 minutes. I do not regret my buy with m2 but I think m0 and m1 are weak.

But smokies initial damage will be low. It will make it look UP.

I 1 vs 1 it will be sooooooo weak.

At the moment Smoky's crit is like this weird, annoying random thing that happens every now and then and requires very little skill to use, unlike other unique features of weapons such as Thunder's splash damage, Freeze's freezing, Rico's ricochet, etc.

 

Most people suggested that the critical hit should be changed to an ability that you can activate on demand (like the critical strike in Fallout) with a separate key, but developers do not want to add any more keys to the turret firing controls other than Space. So I suggest that Smoky's critical hit should be changed to a more controlled passive ability that gradually increases the damage dealt with every consecutive shot that lands on target.

 

How will it work?

 

First of all, Smoky's base damage will be reduced drastically. Maybe to about 2/3 of the current value. That means that the first shot Smoky hits will have quite low damage. But then, if the player continues landing hits on target, each following shot will have more and more damage until finally (perhaps after 5 shots), the damage will reach critical value, at which point each shot will have the lightning effect on it.

 

The critical damage will continue indefinitely as long as the player keeps landing shots on target. If he misses once - the damage gets reset to the base value. If he pauses too much between shots, the damage also resets. That way the player's ability to use the critical hit will be based solely off his ability to consistently land accurate shots and being able to quickly switch between targets, rather than a random chance. 

 

Let's face it, right now it's extremely annoying when the critical hit doesn't come out when you need it most and instead happens when you know that your enemy is on 1 hp and would die from any normal shot. Vice versa, it's equally annoying when you are fighting a player with Smoky and you would win the fight, but you lose because of the random crit that just happens at the wrong time. I'm hoping that my idea will change Smoky's crit into a much more skill-dependant feature.

smoky m4 is very good now compared to thunder m4 which has become weaker than smoky m3.

nah.

smoky is currently not OP. Why make it up for no reason

it is op. with my rokosovski45 i was able to do 20 man killstreaks with smoky.

In my ranks smoky m1/m2 can shoot me 2x to kill me with DD and no crits.

I am not sure that I really like this suggestion.  Let's put it as simple as this.  My garage is just a Smoky.  I like it and I think I am becoming quite the master of it.  Any modifications to it will damage my game play and I am already beginning to not like Tanki as it is.  With all the other issues... lags and such.

No! Smoky isnt op! Not at all! Those criticals can only kill dictator m2 (Half hp) with 1 shot! Nothing special. Most of weapons cant deal that damage in even longer period of time.

Lets not forget fact that he had double power and you had less than half of HP left, if I'm not blind. Also, was it Pro-Battle with Micro-Upgrades off? Might, be that he has m2 smoky (fully MUed m1 Smoky)

Well, first of all, you have less than 1/2HP, second, the smoky might be m2 as Mr.Latvian said, third, it's close range, so smoky does max damage.
