Top 5 Articles of the Month

I'm sure you guys have this down by this point, but as per usual we'll start with the very best articles from the Amateur Writer's Section. The articles submitted from June 29th to July 29th were great, with a number of truly amazing ones in the mix. Big thanks to @tweezers, who helped with all the discussing and debating this month. Appreciate it. (:

1) Heads Will Roll

Heads Will Roll

Sometimes, bad things happen to the nicest people. Such is the case of a certain Edward Falks, a nice, middle-aged man who used to give sweets out to the neighborhood kids if they asked politely enough. He always had a joke to tell, a practical joke to pull off, or some money to donate to a good cause. He sometimes babysat kids when their parents weren't around, and they always loved visiting him. His rules were always not quite as strict as their parents' rules, and there was always a new, exciting place to visit in his house.

He liked everyone, and everyone liked him, so it was a rather big surprise when someone found his body-less head in his backyard, surrounded by what parents would tell their children was "ketchup". Edward's death sparked a massive investigation by the local police, although neither the killer nor the rest of poor Edward's body were ever found since that day. There were, of course, several suspects, but none of them were proven guilty.

Click here to read the rest of a very creepy, but brilliantly executed story.

Night-Sisters: Eerie...sinister...thought-provoking. These are good words to describe 'Heads Will Roll'. It's easily my favorite piece of the bunch, so well done, this was excellent.

Tweezers: Awesome read. The use of suspense, creepiness and the general atmosphere created made for bone-chilling wonder the gruesome ending wrapped it all up nicely. The English used and the impeccable grammar complimented it as well.

2) Map Breakdown: Aleksandrovsk

TANKI BREAKDOWN

-ALEKSANDROVSK-

Hello tankers, and welcome to my first of hopefully many Tanki breakdowns. In this article and the future articles to come I will be breaking down maps to help guide tankers on ways what to look out for, where to go and what you need to do to survive in Aleksandrovsk.

First, for a little background information. Aleksandrovsk is the name of a town in Russia in the district of Perm Krai. It is located in eastern Russia and is home to around fourteen and a half thousand people.

Now onto the good stuff: how to survive in Aleksandrovsk. If you have a short-range weapon (smoky, twins, freeze, firebird, isida, etc.) you need to watch out for snipers on high ground. Snipers can be hiding behind trees or out in the open, but the moment you see someone aiming at you with a shaft, you need to hide and hope for the best. Try to work with your team to take them out. It’s even harder with a railgun, because if you are not looking in the direction of the railgun the blast will surprise you, and you will be destroyed.

Night-Sisters: Brilliant. This was brilliant. A thorough look at Aleksandrovsk, it's well-written and contains excellent advice for players of any rank. Well done.

Tweezers: This is one of the most in depth guides that it has been my pleasure to read. The article covers pretty much every aspect of battling in Aleksandrovsk, with some well thought out tactics that could be invaluable to anyone who wants to excel there. For the next article, I would suggest adding some pictures within the article to visually demonstrate the tactics and dangers of the map.

3) Tanki Online: Top Ten Most Unique Maps
By:

Maps.

Chunks of land sustained in mid-air, enclosed by a sky-box.

In many games, there are always those maps that deserve reputation for being the only one of their kind. 'Raid' in Black Ops 2, 'Nuk3town' in Black Ops 3 *blah blah*... In Tanki Online however, the number of these 'unique' maps is exceptional...

Finding them was no easy task!

However, I have managed to list out 10 of the most unique maps in Tanki Online! So... Without any further delay, let's get right into em!

Click here to discover the ten most unique maps Tanki has to offer.

Night-Sisters: Descriptive, engaging, and (at times) humorous, this is a quality article that really stood out in AWS. Beautifully illustrated, which is what I've come to expect from PDox's articles. Nicely done!

Tweezers: Definitely one of the best map reviews I’ve read in the AWS. The explanation of the choices was spot on, and the pictures were brilliant and added in nicely. The language used completed the whole package, and all in all it shows that a lot of effort was put into making it.

4) Who Are the Tanki gods?

Who Are the Tanki Gods?

With all the improbable events that happen on a daily basis in this game, it’s impossible for them all to be random occurrences. They must be caused by the Gods of Tanki, who look down on our game from their celestial temples in Kubinka, Aberdeen, Saumur, Bovington, and similar places. As a public service, I’ll name a few of the better-known Tanki gods, so you can better understand the power behind the oddities that go on in the course of a typical round of Tanki Online.

Click here to read the rest of this hugely original article.

Night-Sisters: An interesting twist on a very old subject, the creativity expressed really made this piece work. I enjoyed it thoroughly, and am interested to see what else this writer can produce.

Tweezers: One word to describe this: Brilliant. Humor, inventive power, and some cold hard truths all rolled into one article which was written in flawless English. Easily one of the best articles I’ve read in the AWS, ever.

5) Five Types of Annoying Noobs

five_types_of_annoying_noobs.png

I will be writing about 5 types of noobs in the game, enjoy!

Disclaimer: These are not ranked in any order. What I thought of first I wrote first.

5. Goldies

Annoyance rating: 3/5

Found: Everywhere, from Gerfrieters Master Sergeants - Generalissimos.

Probably the least harmless of the bunch, the standard "Gold was?", or, "Gold pls?" noob annoys you. They are the type of noob who is misled and believes that Admins drop gold. Your annoyance towards them is shared but they do no physical harm to you or your gameplay. (Unless you're the type of person who smashed your keyboard because you lost a duel.)

Night-Sisters: It was easy to identify with this article, as I'm sure we've all run into these 'Tanki Types' before. Lightly penned, this is an excellent read.

Tweezers: Loved this article. Covered most of the types of noobs in Tanki (you left me out mult), and a pretty good explanation of how annoying they can be. Humor was great, helped by the good English used. My one criticism would be the pictures, as they were a bit on the small side. All in all though, a thumbs up from me!

Honorable Mentions:

The only honorable mention this time around, this was an interesting and concise overview of the paint update.

Amateur Writing Club News

The Amateur Writers Group has been around for a total of three months now. @Fen-Harel and @tweezers have become/are becoming the key helpers on the project as Goldrock and myself phase out of all things Amateur Writing to deal with irl stuff (for me, college!) and administratory work.

Anywho, after a one-month project hiatus, the AWC members picked up again with the Project: Best Tanki Memories. The results were surprisingly varied and interesting, and can be found here

Also, there is now a new method of entry into the Amateur Writers group. If you would like to become a resident of Spamville, join the group and follow the instructions in the topic mentioned above. We'll be checking  weekly, so don't fret if your message isn't responded to instantly.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

And that's all for this issue. We'll be doing the same next month, featuring the next wave of awesome topics that you guys will doubtless produce.
