Let's Discuss Augments

I agree with Mafioso, who said that the Smoky alterations are rather bad, because the stock turret is better. Anyway, this topic will probably be moved to the game balance or Smoky discussion.

In my opinion, the greatest strength of smoky is its versatility. It does well in a wider range of situations than most other turrets but it doesn't really excel in any of them.

This is why many people choose it and why developers keep nerfing it, because they can't understand the difference between "versatile" and "overpowered."

I got the Firebird's High Pressure Pump alteration on yesterday's sale, at the recommendation of other Legends who had it. Here's my review/tutorial.

For players who are experienced and have used Firebird for a long time, this alteration gives a nice challenge. First of all, it narrows your angle of attack when shooting, making your fire more of a straight stream than a wide-spread cloud. This is demonstrated in the image below:

Fire_Comparison.png"Laser of Fire"

Obviously, this alteration will require more precise aiming when attacking with firebird. On rough terrain, it will be very difficult to get a lock onto a target and deal consistent damage. You must stay consistently on your enemy to deal the maximum damage, or your K/D will suffer. Maps like Noise, and especially Massacre, with varying levels of terrain, will give this alteration a hard time.

As someone said earlier, you could have an enemy sitting right next to you, and you won't be able to hit them, because the cone of attack is so narrow. You also won't be able to hit tanks that are on higher ground, unless you have a hull that can "bounce", like Hunter or Wasp. (Dictator is a no-no with this alteration!) Firebird essentially becomes less of an in-your-face weapon, but it becomes more useful at a slightly longer distance.

Indeed, the positive of this alteration lies in the increased range of maximum damage. Look at the image up there, at those concrete blocks towards the top of the image. The default Firebird would barely tickle a tank at that distance, but with the High Pressure Pump alteration, it would do close to its maximum damage! This is where the Compact Tanks alteration couples nicely and makes Firebird a very dangerous napalm machine! Attacking multiple enemies will be difficult, but for those you do get a lock on, they'll hardly stand a chance.

Overall, as long as you can keep your aim steady, stay in flatter areas, and keep a moderate distance, this alteration is a plus. Makes Firebird require skill to use. ;)

I tested the new Rico M2 alt. on the test server for a short while and IMO it is not worth it, because

1) the Ricochet effect is much more important to Rico than the added Splash damage. If you can't hit a tank directly, the ricochet effect is better to deal indirect damage than the splash damage. I would think it is good for direct attacks/raids on the enemy base (where tanks are crowded) without cover, but in overall game I expect the stock turret to be the better performer.

2) it basically has 2 drawbacks (Ricochet effect and self-damage) and only gets splash damage as an advantage.

3) it costs 100k crystals.

On the other hand if you already have Rico and no Thunder, it is a cheaper option to get a Thunder (also with a higher Time to kill, but therefore longer reload after mag is empty).

Is the m1 shaft alteration (assault emitters) affecting all damage or just arcade mode?

Just arcade

High Caliber Ammo (+40% min and max damage but +50% reload) - should I go for it on 50% sales?

Or should I just, umm... buy kits and other equipments?

I have 92k crystals now.

Here is my garage

It depends where you want to use your railgun . In normal battles , go for it. In XP/BP battles , it won't work as XP/BP turns off alterations. So decide before buying. That alteration is a beast in long ranged maps but short range , it isn't that useful

Twins 'Range' alteration is surprisingly good, it does great job at Polygon for example. Played 4 games with different teams and my K/D was always over 1.80 without much camping, even playing with legends, that's much better than what I'd get with the regular Twins. It's a lot of fun to pay with it. It becomes good mid range and even long range weapon. In fact it does more damage than thunder and smoky at long range.

With M2 and high caliber ammo alt and 10/50 the average damage is 1179 and the damage per sec. is 183.

So the firebird and freeze have amazing alterations: Longer range = more damage and effective range, at the small expense of harder aiming (which is something good players can easily work around), or more damage. However, the isida's are terrible. I just rented the first one today (broadband emitters) and found it really decreased the effectiveness of the gun. Played a game with it and I had numerous times when normal range would be very helpful, but the wider range was only useful once, when a freeze had frozen me and I couldn't turn my barrel. I cant even begin to understand the thinking on the next alteration either: five seconds longer of healing, in return for a 50% damage decrease? Where is the point? The only times I run out of energy while healing is when I've gone straight from attacking a different tank to healing (in which scenario the alteration would make my attacking much much less effective), or when I need to heal three severely damaged tanks in quick succession, which occurs much less often than me escaping from a fight with less than 50% health left (because if I'd had the alteration on in those circumstances I would've been dead.)

The isida is my favorite gun, and its sad to have alterations that are so situational for it. Please change these to make them slightly more widely useful. Thank you!

You have the support of many players here. At least bring an alteration (in the M3 slot) that gives back the self-heal in a balanced trade-off. It was quite an interesting feature and made the game better.

Well, the alterations for Freeze are hardly worth it. The damage alteration takes away the Freeze effect which helps you survive and lock targets a lot of times.

The Narrow-cone alteration doesn't increase range, only the range of max damage. And it is not good either because with the normal freeze you can hit multiple targets at once, or damage players on different elevations, whereas the alteration cannot do that.

To top it all off they're quite expensive and only the Firebird M2 alteration is worth the crystals spent, only because the stock Firebird is so bad. So alterations are really just for the M4 players.

I think hazel said that there will be no alterations in the m3 category in the live stream.

Ok so I got a question. So let's say that I buy m2 twins but I didn't get m1 version of it. Will I still be able to buy those m1 alterations, or will I need to go look for another turret? :/

Plz answer
