For example, say I wanted to buy the Matrix kit, which has Thunder&Viking M1/Pixel/Panther D-D M1 protection, but I didn't want the paint or the protection. Instead of forcing me to buy paint and protection I don't want, I should be able to buy the kit at a cheaper price with only the Thunder and Viking M1s.

A product kit is a single, nonnegotiable offer. You get an offer to buy a certain bundle of items for a certain discounted price and you have to either take it or leave it. This is one of the intentional disadvantages of kits - you have to pay for items you might not want.

True, but sales don't happen very often, and kits have the advantage of giving you lots of supplies as a bonus.

Don't forget that kits give you ability to get equipment before its actual unlock rank.

I think, even though this was declined, that they may eventually allow you to choose paints from a set of paints - of equal or lesser value than the one default with the kit, but they aren't going to let you switch anythng else - it would make the kit a different price which would take too much time.

That actually sounds like a great idea. It's be cool to have a couple options for paints to choose from when buying a kit.
