PRO battle setting: Allow spectators

• off by default
• Players with special status (like mods) will keep their ability to join all battles regardless of the "allow spec" setting

When turned on:

• Everyone can join the battle as spectators
• Real nicknames visible instead of "Spectator" (excluding special accounts like mods if they should be anonymous)
• "Nick joined/left" HUD notifications (excluding special accounts if they should be invisible)
• Maybe spec list in TAB menu
• If a battle gets crowded with many spectators they will be able to chat only in spec team chat to not flood the battle chat in events

Advantages:

• Everyone will have access to spectator mode, which will mostly be used for good purposes (videos and screenshots or just watching)
• Some spec accounts will no longer be needed because they don't need the ability to join all battles (like newspaper and parkour club spec)
• No more spectator applications and spam from lots of players asking for spec mode, no more checking logs to see if spectators violated their rules... whatever else Cedric and the spec admin do, they know better. Will be less work for them, and Cedric got a lot of work anyway.
• Many people that have nice plans for stuff to do with spec mode will finally be able to do these things. (for example, the parkour team "Limitless" can do some really good stuff but can't find a spectator to record it so they don't make more videos. And Fight & Flight are lucky to have spectators supporting them, otherwise they wouldn't be able to produce top quality videos and prove they deserve a spectator... who knows what else would have been done if spectator mode was available for everyone)

Disadvantages:

• Abusing spec mode will be possible, but players will join battles with spectators only if they don't mind the risk (like devs plan to do with the team kick system, let players join these battles only if they don't mind the little risk). Allow spectators setting will be off in most battles cause it's off by default. Besides, I can't imagine spec abuse becoming a popular or effective thing.

btw maf / cypher, if there are any other reasons not to open spec mode for everyone please let me know, if I don't know the reasons I can't find solutions

Spectator can be abused by players . Imagine a spectator who is in skype talk with a member/members of red team. He can give all details-where the flag is who is raiding etc to them and that wouldn't be nice

I think it's not possible to allow anyone to use spectator in flash due to some reason I forgot.

Did you read the post before replying?...

 

It wouldn't be nice only to the spectator, seriously. Watching a battle and telling mostly obvious flag hiding spots instead of fighting with your friend, enjoying the game and gaining crystals... In most cases a spectator won't bring a big advantage anyway, and not many people will want to spectate a battle just to help their friend win.

 

And as I mentioned:

 

Allow spectators setting will be off in most battles cause it's off by default, and players will join battles with spectators only if they don't mind the risk.

So if you don't want to play with spectators, you don't have to. Most battles will be without spectators anyway.

 

By the way, maybe some people will actually enjoy this kind of gameplay and will even make clan battles with spectators to play with another level of strategy, who knows...

another thing i want to add is:

The most viewed battles will be pinned in the top of the battles list.

and the players inisde will get to see how many spectators are watching thier game by pressing TAB.

Spectators chat will be visible only for the spectators.

ye if not in all pro battles then at least in parkour battles, would still be a great improvement.

Spectator mode = More lag

Spectator mode with spectator chat = Even more lag

 

At this point lag is terrible as it is.  Add more server load in a battle and you have an even worse problem, plus who wants the world to see your own personal trademark strategies?  Tanki is getting more and more homogenized with the hulls all being similar and the turrets losing most of their uniqueness through endless updates.  Spectator mode would start to homogenize fighting chops as people learned combatants tricks and ploys.

 

No, spec mode sounds like lots of fun, but its reality would result in yet another nail in Tanki's coffin.  A seemingly good idea on the surface that should NEVER be implemented.

I came with a very good idea. Since our friends play game Duels / Dous  and many other game unfortunately we can watch the score of flags outside but no inside a battle. In a battle we should spectate the game

For example: Outside the battle there should be the option " Spectate" in which we can specate the game. It would be the awesome idea for all of us.

 

 

This also works in Fortnite / Pubg in every game. You are implementing the game by copying others then this idea would be great.
