You seem to play in a small demographic of the overall player base that is entirely dissimilar to the game 99% of us experience.

Your position here is that there are only 12 good TO players out of 50-60k and they are all in your clan. The thousands of other players in TO all use Smoky "wrong". That is whay it is uncommon to see more than one Smoky in a basic battle ... no one knows how to use them.

These 12 have worked out the Mystery of  which is this week's Most Powerful Turret. Up until this post your comments claimed Shaft was this turret.  But then again you say you have not played for 4-5 months. So you are sort of all over the map, but are entertaining in a sense.

just look at esports, which is more effective? smoky or ricochet? smoky is among the most effective in every mode while ricochet is only alightly effective in CP.

esports are played by people who know how to actually play, you can't judge turrets based on random people who just use every turret  like how twins is supposed to be used.

smoky advantage over ricochet is that the ammo instantly hits the target. ricochet with range alteration still can't do that. so with smoky you can knock them excatly when where and how you want to, with ricochet they might not be able to dodge the shot but they still don't get hit where you would like them to be. and when they get hit by a ricochet they can expect where to be knocked.

yo also always know where the ricochet is firing from because of those big fat yellow balls flying at you, but not smoky.

12345? remember @Krokmou_Vol_Draka ?

With the MFS smoky's advantage disappears - the plasma travels too fast to avoid.  Oh wait - I forgot you can dodge rail-shots in your mammoth. My bad.

Ricco has a ton of impact - multiple shots hitting in fast succession inflict more impact than the one smoky shot.

Maybe you play Ricco players that don't know how to use the turret (see what I did there) - how do always know where the Ricco is when it is bouncing it's shots off walls and tunnels?

Most of your arguments trying to defend a position involve a very specific example that does not apply to 95% of the players.

Try living in the "real" world.  We can only judge turrets on how 95% of the users use it - not the 5% of people we never see.

if you gonna be happy playing with people who just run around and shoot what they see then yah turrets with high dps/impact per second are better, there's no competition.

at close range isida is best, at mid-close range twins, at mid range ricochet with mfs, at mid-far magnum and far shaft. that's all, forget about stats like impact per shot, fire rate, projectile speed etc.

when you chose a turret just take the one with best dps you can deal at a certain range, and that'd be the best turret for you when using it at that range. cause all you do is shoot at something when you see it.

I can tell you didn't read a word of my post.  I'm not surprised.  A bit disappointed - maybe.  Surprised?   Nope.

Interesting - not sure I can take you at your word since you like to post here a LOT - but I'll see what I can do...

1) With alteration Ricco has effective range equal to or better than smoky

2) Ricco has impact that rivals Smoky since it fires many more shots in same time period and impact adds up.

3) Just like there are smart smoky users there are smart Ricco users - they use bounce to hide location.

4) Stop using esports as example - 95% players are not involved in that so it is irrelevant.

I agree Smoky has advantages over Rico. I leverage those advantages to beat Ricos every day. Ricos are not invulnerable.

But Rico has advantages over Smoky. Every day Rico players leverage those advantages to kill me.

The point is, the overall Rico package is in sum more effective more often than is Smoky's.  It is not enough to say, Smoky has these advantages over Rico, therefore Rico is weak. Both sides of the coin must be reviewed.

-----

Actually you do not design games so only the top 0.3% of the player base can make use of the designs.  Play balance is determined in the meat of the distribution curves not the trailing edges.

How to play Magnum the fun way!

So, Magnum. The newest and most controversial turret released last year. I was originally going to release this after it inevitably got the nerf hammer but I suppose we don’t know when that will be. This guide won’t make you a god amongst men with the turret, but rather shine light on how I think it should be played to make it more fun.

Step 1. What NOT to do!

Don’t: 1. Go below 10 degrees. Just don’t. Ya jerk. 2. Don’t rely on the splash damage, it’s not only a cheap way to get easy kills but it just ruins the fun for everyone. And 3, don’t play Magnum just to be OP. Just don’t.

Step 2. Master your prediction!

A good Magnum can hit a Wasp hiding under shelter from the opposite end of the map, right? Well, yes, but where’s the fun in that? The best way to have fun and challenge yourself is find a nice, mobile target and see how many creative ways you can figure out to land shots. Over a house? Maybe in between two props? Whatever it is, make it unique!

Step 3. Experiment!

Nobody likes that one Shaft that always camps the same spot. Don’t just hide behind a building the whole match, especially if you have a medium hull. Magnum’s real fun comes from just how versatile and interesting it is as a turret. You have the power to hit almost anything from anywhere on the map, and you’d rather sit there and poop out shells with the power  of a toddler? Get real!

Step 4. Always go for one target!

As I said before, never rely on splash damage as a crutch. Direct hits are not only more skillful, but rewarded with extremely high damage output, over a thousand damage per direct hit! Double that with DP!

Step 5. Attack other Magnums!

Magnum duels are not only fun, but they help take the pressure off your teammates. Do them a good deed and take out that Magnum on the high ground so they can advance!

That’s about it. Good luck and happy shelling!

I use a 30 degrees by default unless I need to lob something over a wall nearby me.

Other than that, 30 degrees and 35% seems like a golden combo..

I'm not even paying attention to the charge bar anymore unless I need to do some distant shooting.

Instead; I listen to the charge up sound and that's about it... all feeling.

I sit back, camp and relax while the parabolic feature does the rest.

Unharmed, annoying and destroying the enemy defense.

It's also great for ruining gold mosh pits... The dictators are often found there and they're hard to miss.

----

Barda is such a great map for Magnum. I sit here and press space the entire match:

Flag carriers are not safe... nowhere.

Seeing the pile of tanks explode and the RAGE in the chat "noooob magnum!! no kill on gold!!!" That is gold in itself. :)

Yes, Magnum is the best for when you are in the mood to just annoy other people.

Oof, that shot... Either it hit the area just behind the bridge or it hit the bridge just behind him. I can tell.

Exactly! Magnum has a wide radius of splash damage. Same to thunder & striker and those turrets.

Thunder has no wide radius of splash damage, striker can become equal to magnum if TO increase the speed of locking target in any way, either increasing or adding an alteration. I wish ask developers to consider this idea of increasing lock-speed of striker, its  basically useless as of now.

Not true at all. The amount of people bunching up with the ball makes it a Magnum paradise.

I didn't say you can't play rugby with it, i just said it was no fun because you can only throw the ball forwards...

I think Magnum with double damage is the best turret

I remember in my other acc when 2 golds dropped and i caught the 1st one but the second one had like 10 enemy tanks around it and with magnum

M1 + double damage killed like 7 or 8 of them

so i think magnum is awesome the way it is and it has lots of advantages over most turrets
