You can find even threads on that if you use the advanced search (little cogwheel right to the search dialog box). There you enter "stop destruct" as search words and limit the results to the Ideas & suggestions section.

There have been times when I wished I could cancel self-destruct, not only for the reasons mentioned, but for the following scenario: 

 

I grab the enemy flag, jump down but land wrong and find myself upside down. I usually hang on to the flag for a few seconds to see if one of my teammates happen along. At that time, I will release the flag and hit self-destruct. As my teammate is trying to get the flag from me, the enemy begins to battle my teammate. If I can cancel the self-destruct I can hang on to the flag a bit longer to keep the enemy from sending it back during the skirmish. It's a tactical play.
