Closure of the Amateur Writing Club

Amateur Writing section will continue to work as it did so you do not have to worry you won't have place to post your articles. This topic relates solely to the Amateur Club.

Dear writers.

After a lengthy discussion in the Reporter AWS helper group, we have decided that it is time to close one chapter of the Amateur Writing Section, the Amateur Writing Club.

The club started as a place where writers could gather to discuss writing, ask for help, socialize with other writers and participate in the club activities that were aimed at improvement of their writing skills. Unfortunately, the last months showed that the club no longer fulfills its primary objectives. The population of the Amateur Club decreased when many of its members became totally inactive. The activities that were originally meant for the club only, such as writing tournaments or assignments, became meaningless because the number of participants in them was way too low. All in all, we believe that under these circumstances, it is no longer beneficial to run the club.

Instead, we decided that it will be best to run the AWS as a place where all writers are equal and where they don't need to join a club to participate in any writing activities. The new initiative will now replace the writing competitions that were run in AWC, and AWS respectively. The Skype groups will also be transformed. The official AWC work Skype group will be terminated. The social AWC Skype group will be transformed to the Amateur Writing Group and will continue as both a social group for discussion and also as a work group where writers will be able to discuss writing or ask reporters questions.

Thank you for understanding.

So how will this AWS work? Will topics still be pre-moderated/proofread by a reporter?

Will there be any more writing contests or tournaments ever?

Edit: also, to be fair, the "club" aspect never really mattered... Non club members could (and frequently did) enter contests. The club literally just gave you access to Skype groups and League points (which were never updated anyways...).

The section itself will work as it did before, nothing will change with the approval of topics as this closure is solely related to the club.

As for the writing tournaments, they may return in the future, however they will not be AWC exclusive nor will there be any advantage to members of the writing group such as additional crystals for league points since this system did not work with the very low number of club participants. Every participant will be on equal ground.

To follow on with this point, in the most recent AWS tournament there was a maximum of 6 participants who took part in one challenge. The entries were good but that isn't a surprise. Was there any rewards sent to the top 5 btw?

You may as well continue the monthly contests, Just a short, directed writing piece with a small crystal prize for the top 3 or something...?
