Why Tanki has lost players?

 Share

Recommended Posts

druggers, overleveled equipment, p2w/p2p game, getting one shot, thunder automatically winning a game, overall, boring and unbalanced game which keeps receiving bad updates like rugby, juggernaut, vulcan ''fix'' etc

People leave for games like fortnite that don't give the option to have an in-game advantage by spending money and have developers that actually listen to what the players want

Players have touched upon some very valid points as to why players are leaving Tanki, so I won't repeat those. One thing that hasn't been mentioned, yet, is server instability. A player said that Tanki can be played on a potato computer. I don't have a potato computer, by any means, yet in the last few months I've been experiencing turning turrets, horrible lags, server disconnects, black screens, loading bars that don't completely load.

Some of these problems existed when Tanki came out of beta into the mainstream. Those problems were fixed (even back then the Mods were blaming it all on personal computers). Now some of the same lags are back and a few more added (again, they are blaming it all on the personal computers). I keep my computer as squeaky clean as possible, because I also use it in my business. I can't afford to have a cluttered machine.

I've read that the Devs are trying to expand Tanki into a more modern game. That's great! But they are not taking care of basic problems that these advancements are causing. It's like building a building on top of a sturdy foundation intended for that building. Then they start adding more floors without giving the foundation more support. Pretty soon, the foundation begins to crack and instead of putting a permanent fix to the foundation, they are simply patching the cracks with cement patch....in essence, putting a bandaid on a deep wound. I'm tired of being insulted with advice and links to cleaning my caches.

In my opinion, what they need to do is shut Tanki down for a week (but keep the forums open), start from the foundation up and fix all the little cracks and crevices to make a more solid game before moving on for more expansion.

Okay, I'm grabbing my soapbox and going home.

People are leaving tanki because there are other games that suit their taste preference(s) much better.

Besides, tanki has a small developer team compared to other games that have a larger team, so it may take awhile for them to actually release updates.

Stop compaining about updates. The fact that a tanker doesn't have fun may be connected with updates to some part, but it is mostly lost interest on the game.

Think. If you have fun in tanki, you won't think critically about those updates, and just think that it is a good addition to the game. Maybe battle rewards were reduced. You would be sad for a bit but the next day you would be playing tanki, having so much fun.

Do new players complain about updates? No, they do not, maybe due to the fact that they don't know the game well, but mostly because they are having fun in this game.

Now you guys want tanki to go to 2014. Tanki would have gone bankrupt and died, or even if it didn't, you guys would have quit. I mean, who wants a game without 4 years of updating???

I think tanki is doing their best to live up to other games, they have a disadvantage from the start, they have a small player base.

I think they are trying to do their best to not get bankrupt, pay all their employees, while helping us have fun.

Tanki is not really pay to win, when you finish doing all the struggles before getting drugs and tanks, with daily missions, it is really not p2w.
Paying just buys time, that you would wait for daily mission chains.

I know this is very messed up, but I hope you guys get the point.

Let's see some updates:

1. Matckmaking System (MMS): So, from 29th of May, possibilities to choose maps, rank brackets, teams, teammates and rematch are restricted. You end up in battles against several ranks higher (i almost always get in battles with Legends. M4 tanks, alterations, tons of drugs...). For lower rankers that's actually 2 M's stronger equipment (if I have M1, fight against M2 player, he is actually M2+ / M3).

You can't choose map: if you play with firebird/freeze, i really doubt that you want to join Brest, Highways or Desert (Desert is ok). Also, if you use railgun / shaft, you don't want to join Aleksandrovsk.

Teams/teammates: Being put into battles that end in 3 minutes because battles are way unbalanced is just no fun.

2. Modules. M3 - M4 modules have 35% - 50% protection. That player just gets no damage from those turrets.

3. Balance: 3 months ago Freeze could be seen only in garages. Then it got buff and you couldn't find a battle without freeze. Then it was nerfed, and Firebird was buffed. Then Firebird was OP. Now it's balanced, after nerf.
Vulcan -> Was useless earlier, then got nerf, now buffed.

Magnum -> Impossible to find where the shell came from. If the user is Magnum PRO, you can just leave. Wasp / Hornet down in 1 shot, other hulls in 2 ( maybe 3) shots. Still no nerf.

Smoky -> not suitable for maps in MMS. Just not suitable. Nedds buff.

I can continue writing, but I am too lazy RN.

As I already said, Battles are no fun. Skills don't matter, only drugs (Quote: "You need skills to drug" ). Even if a battle IS fun, you have to leave it right after it ends.

New players don't complain. Why? Many of them don't know of forum. Even if they do, they don't know where to complain, or they just don't use it. If they see that game is no fun, they will leave it alone and quit.

Would you rather have bad updates or no updates at all? I think it's better to have no updates at all.

In 2014, TO had a lot of players. 24 En servers. 10 RU (i am not sure about this number) servers, and 2 DE servers. On every servers at least ( AT LEAST ) 5k players, though EN1 and EN2 were almost always full. That's (24+10+2)*5000 = 36 * 5 = 180 k players. Now, when servers are unified (24 EN and 10 RU), max number is 30k (only when there is an event), and minimum is 5k... Really? 5 000? This is reason why everything is P2W * . They are good at trying not to get bankrupt, but they don't help us have fun.

Paying buys time, what makes non buyers win. Actually, that's what you get by buying.

If a player does only 1 mission per day from , in 5-6 months, they will have a lot of crys (my alt acc), drugs, great equipment, be OP. If they rush to rank up, they will not have crystals -> equipment, they will be rekted, and they will just leave. It IS P2W.

You do know people have been saying this for over 4 years

nothing has changed and people still play tanki!!!!!

^read 2nd to last paragraph.

I've seen as low as 2K players. I assume that the number of players on the home page is globally. It seems after the merger, the game started going downhill and has less players. Mods are telling us that Tanki is having growing pangs. This has been going on for years. When will it stop?

Everything said so far, and I didn't read it ALL, but I can imagine the sentiments and thoughts, seem to point to one thing.

Consistency.  Players that leave are the ones that have been around.  Tanki is to bent on change and sweeping modifications to the game on a whim, or worse, on an idea that is not vetted with players.  Everywhere you look, updates change the core functionality of hulls and turrets, and then some updates affect how you can choose to play, and others add more variables to game play, and others change how the game is played.

My example, the Shaft, is one of the most obvious.  Invested in this turret, specialized in it's game play, and suddenly had a laser added, and then later damage adjusted, had my penetration removed, turret speed tweaked, and then my arcade firing changed a number of times.  For others, the Vulcan.  Just recently, added increased spin up time, reduced heat up, all changes that were never considered at the onset when someone decided to invest in the turret and hull.

We pick our game play ,we learn it, and we do what we do best with what we have practiced with.  The incessant "adjustment of reality" makes the game annoying on a good day, insufferably angering on others.  The whole notion that you have invested 100s of hours of game play, 100s of thousands, even millions, of crystals on equipment, all to focus your game play to the style of play you have practiced, just to have it all turn into nothing, or worse, a detractor from the game play makes the game positively NOT FUN to play.  It seems like every 3 months I am relearning how to effectively use Shaft.  I've been playing since 2015 and I should be able to easily load my account and start swapping blows with the best of them and even if I don't drug, at least give them a run for their money if they do.  But no, I have to constantly fight to keep a barely considerable K/D and I'm always having to relearn things, like the behavior and characteristics of other turrets.  Timing is crucial in this game very often, understanding your opposition is too.  It denigrates into a brawl, constantly.  There was a quiet near two year period, where things had become rather pointed, and hard edged towards a certain balance of units in battle, or certain constructions, that really lent themselves to a thinking game.  Then turret changes came, then Magnum showed up, and then 7 minutes games and random map selection occurred.  There are too many variables, and that wouldn't be so bad, if at least those variables maintained a norm.  If you learned how to play a certain way in those environments against known "quantities", then people would stay, they'd enjoy the battles better.

The ever changing landscape of the game mechanics (not actual landscape, which has become reduced actually, less maps in MM) makes people frustrated and they give up, especially when it's money/crystals earned and spent on an objective that is then completely changed or wholesale done away with.  You want people to stay, offer more, offer novelty, but do not change, reduce, or adjust what is there in the name of balance.  Sure we need some re-balancing once in a while, a few percentages here or there if a turret was introduced that ultimately behaved in ways not expected, but these changes are constantly up ending the knowledge curve and the skills of players.

To make people stay, offer more maps, offer more alterations, offer more game play styles (battle modes), but don't just yank the carpet out from under people all the time, they get tired of falling down on the floor after a while.

With that said, Twins do need to go.  They are basically impervious to one on one battle, and very often, a gang takes quite a beating before they can even hope to kill of a twin in a medium or heavy hull with protections, M4 level, and drugs.  They're ridiculous.  That said, I wouldn't nerf it actually.  It SHOULD GO, but you know what, they put it in, they let it run loose, and people invested, so we all need to put up, but then, stop messing with anything else and plan better, rather than wait a year before deciding to drop a bomb on players that spend tons on their equipment and spend countless hours learning how to play it as delivered.

Greed. I've seen games been destroyed by it, and this one is taking the baby steps toward the dark side.

Increasing mission rewards by 1 drug is no excuse for making missions incredibly hard for a normal player. Even Pro battles are losing their charm, most of them being drug wars or meatgrinder matches, with little fun gameplay involved. I might as well leave altogether and stop blabbering on this useless forum.

There are so many things wrong with the game that they outweigh the things that are good. It should be the other way around. Yes, there will always be the naysayers, but shouldn't they be in the minority? From what I've seen in the forums over the past few years, especially within the past 2 years, the ones who praise Tanki are only a small handful. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

I already said my piece, at least some of it, in a previous post. Others have a wall of text, too. Mods and Helpers moderate the forums. Helpers report to the Mods, the Mods report to the CM, the CM reports to the Devs. Mods and Helpers report what they deem important, the CM report to the Devs what they deem important. If something is reported to the CM and the CM knows it's something the Devs aren't interested in or don't want to hear about, it isn't reported, thereby, not discussed.

Our rants and raves is like the wind blowing. Everyone knows it's there, but pays no attention. There's a storm brewing in Tanki and the weathermen are telling us not to worry, it'll blow over. Yes, it'll blow over like all storms do, but what about the damage that's left in its wake? Tanki says...We will fix, repair, rebuild.....But what they don't tell us is that the materials used are cardboard boxes and factory rejected cement blocks. Materials that are easily destroyed to be fixed, repaired and rebuilt time and again. Nothing is permanent. Who wants to live in a town like that?

For whatever reason, Devs treat our complaints & suggestions as the "minority" of tankers, and bow to the wishes of the majority.

My question is - if the "majority" of players are not on the forum - how are they communicating their "wishes" to the Devs?

And if they can't be bothered to come onto the forum, why are they granted more "weight"?

Good question. The strength of the players is only as strong as the strength of the CM. The CM kowtows to the Devs and only tell them what they want to hear. Some of our suggestions are granted, no doubt. But it's not always the way we expect it.

Take the Vulcan, for instance. All they asked for was a nerf in the rate of burn from overheating. They said that somehow the burn of the Vulcan is connected with the burn of the Firebird. If they nerf the Vulcan burn then that will also nerf the burn of the Firebird. I know next to nothing about coding, but it seems to me all the had to do is put a block in there. Instead, they decreased the turning speed of the barrel and increased damage. That was suppose to take care of the Vulcan overheating problem. The result was making the Vulcan tank 3 time more vulnerable. I still burn up trying to make a kill and the added damage isn't that great.

Yeah - it was lazy programming from the start - making those two mutually inclusive.  If they had done it properly they could have isolated the impact from one on the other.

Instead, they ruined Vulcan.  Tried to tell us "you just have to learn how to use it differently".  BS - there's no changing the fact that on small maps enemies can close on you before the barrels spin up - everyone uses SB so distances mean almost nothing.  And so they introduce an alteration that does not even bring the spin-up back to pre-change stats.  You still take longer to spin up with a net loss in damage.

So, if you want to hear lots of pissed off talk, go see my Shaft posts, but, I decided to bring it here, because it was Shaft related, bu ultimately about this.

Something happened over Thanksgiving.  I can't say for sure what, but ever since, I can't get better than second to last place hardly.  I used to be a mid to upper level scorer, and now, I'm lucky in the last three days to pull anything over a .39 K/D.  I play with Shaft, and everybody knows, if you know how to play with Shaft, even if your shot count is low, overall K/D is generally in the top ranked.  I can barely make it through 7 minutes now without not just wanting to quit.  Nothing gets killed by what I shoot, EVERYTHING seems to damage me more, and nothing I do in terms of changes in game play even begin to seem to affect the numbers.  Flat out, I can't do anything all of a sudden.

Now, that said, the "Harry Potter" drones are what I think is to blame.  One thing is to enhance drugs, another is to sprinkle magic faerie dust on tanks when they perform a kill and rejuvenate them or recharge them instantly.  An opposing force is supposed to get weaker as it gets closer, taking hits and hopefully dealing more damage than taken, and then dealing with whats left of an enemy.   Enter shaft, the ace in the hole, the last defense, and there was always defense against a bum rush of thugs and hooligans all hopped up on drugs. Shaft could make short work of the beat up interlopers.  Not anymore.  Drones restore health and charge for doing damage, thus you can build up OD, while dishing out damage, and ignore damage taken in the process, no attrition involved, so long as you keep dishing it out.

This has to stop, and while I'm always the one that says just leave it alone, but don't mess the game up anymore, these drones, the new ones, THEY HAVE TO GO, just have to.  You string a Dictator/Thunder out of all three drugs with one of these drones (god forbid you have a izzie bringing up the rear), and they can be a mentally challenged, "no turn turret", occasional player, and still STOMP across the map practically.  Put that in skilled hands, and it's over.  Just keep using batteries.  It's the Energizer Bunny of Tanki.  They just keep going and going, regardless of what is being done to them (I don't drug, so yeah, I should expect a harder time of it, but I used to still place half way decent most of the time, and some times still high).

And some of the new alterations!  "Waaannnnhhhh, mommy, the Shaft sniped me again, they need a laser to I can find them."  But Smokey, the auto-cannon thingy, smokey snipe with it, no telling where it came from, and that's just one little example,  Add these drones to those alterations, and lots of drugs and batteries, and something has gone terribly wrong.

I don't mind losing to a team that has more resources, but I can't stand just being shot to death over and over, right out the gate.  Someone fix Tanki, PLEASE.

My question is - if the "majority" of players are not on the forum - how are they communicating their "wishes" to the Devs?

When players are happy and enjoying the game, they play often and regularly and they spend money on the game. You won't hear much of them otherwise. Items that sell well, events that are a success (in terms of participation) and maps or game modes played most say a lot about what the majority of players like or do not like. The marketing department has a lot of use for game statistics and if they are capable of interpreting those stats correctly, they can draw proper conclusions on what players like.

On the forum, players oftentimes come to voice their concerns about something when they're not happy. If they are satisfied and don't run into any issues, they'll simply play the game.

Also, we do not only collect feedback from players on the forum, but from all official platforms. That includes social media and in-game chats.

Devs don't care about player it's a fact. I know many mods disagrees with me but that's there job

Without players, there'd be no game and the developers would be out of a job. So fact of the matter is that they have to care one way or another. After all, it's in their interest to attract and keep players.

about 2-3 year ago 50k player online was normal site but today even on holidays celebrations it is hard to see even 45k. Don't you think this is because of many unwanted updates and constant ignoring majority voice that force them to leave?
