Idea for RSS feed of Forum

Recommended Posts

Given that this forum doesn't auto update, and even if it did, most of us are doing other things often, is it possible aggregate an RSS feed to this forum so you could see when new entries were posted from places other than the bulletin board itself?  A Simple Atom feed would be best, so anyone could configure nearly any feed reader, thus allowing everyone to be able to "feed" from the forum.  Nothing special, just standard RSS feed items, and maybe the first two or three sentences of the post in the description.

Update:

Recently another mod said I might want to explain this, as many do not seem to know what RSS is.  Really Simple Syndication.  It's a simple push message system that is used a lot for news and bulletin borads, and even some chat sites.  Blogs will use it too, but really, anything can be set up for RSS.

Simply put, a feed is a function that monitors and updates with any of the latest posts and news added to the "stream".  Here ,in the forums, that would mean simply that when a new topic is added, or a new post to a topic is added, you would receive a notification with a title, date, and maybe a line or two of the post in your "reader".

Readers can be nearly ANYTHING.  Firefox and Explorer do it, I think chrome does too.  Firefox in fact, you can set it up as a bookmark folder, and when you click on it, you get a list of links, and you can just click it and it'll take you to it.  There are lots of feed readers out there too, stand alone, and web based.

oh, almost forgot, you can even get it in your email.  Here is the guide for Thunderbird: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-subscribe-news-feeds-and-blogs

Point is, you can get your info from anywhere into anything.  You can get them for your phone too. When a topic you're interested in is updated, tada, you get the update, and it always comes with a link nearly to go to the source, which means you can head straight to the forum and reply if you want.  RSS is really great and best part, most forums and bulletin boards, and other platforms have the capability built in, it just needs to be configured and turned on.
