Fog's Fantastic Forum Notes

 Share

Recommended Posts

This is a place where I will post a list of all forum posting instructions otherwise not well documented by any help files or the Wiki. It will be a work in progress as things come up and get added.  Any suggestions or obscure functions you know of that you want added, just PM me (I don't respond quick all the time, so be patient with requests).

Special tanks to [member=DieselPlatinum] for the table info and the inspiration (reminder, really, that I can't remember anything and should write it down somewhere) to whip this page up.

Instructions:

Where ever "{" are present, replace those with "["

Adding a Spoiler

To add a collapsible spoiler use the following tags:

"{spoiler} your text here {/spoiler}"

Example:

your text here

Adding a Table

To add a table you will need three levels of tags:

"{Table} {tr} {td} table info {/td} {td} (made of table rows and table data) {/td} {/tr} {/Table}"

Example:

table info (made of table rows and table data)

next row (made of more data and columns)

etc etc

(Note table generator topic was attributed also by .  This resource lists a google doc's table genrator that many might be interested in using)

Adding a Member/Player Name Link

To add member/player name link with rank (this will link you to the player profile and also indicate they were mentioned, I believe, in a post) to a forum posting:

{member='FogOfWar_XXX'}

Example:

@FogOfWar_XXX

Thanks to [member=Issho_Fujitora] for this entry.

Adding a URL Link

{Url=insert Link address here} insert text here {/url}

Example:

Bestest Tanki Video Channel EVER!

Thanks to [member=DieselPlatinum] for this entry.

Adding a Rank Icon

{rank=insert rank number here}

Example:

Thanks to [member=Boeing_787] for this entry.

Adding a Crystal Calculator

This oddity was provided to me with the caveat that it really is a strange bit of code and seemingly useless, considering how it generates calculations, but, it's there, and hey, lets face it, now you know, and knowing is half the battle (if you know the rest, go on, say it loud and proud).

{calc}

Example:

Thanks to [member='Pyre] for this entry.

[spoiler] your text here [/spoiler]

Replaced { with [, still not working...

your text here

Copied it right from your box and it works. Of course, are you just bragging because you made a code box and this is subtle effort of trying to dazzle folks?

That said, I might use that instead, but I don't think I can do all the purdy colors, so I'll mess with it.

Regardless, the code does in fact work, as you can see.

You remember what the code is to get the member name to pop up and be a link to their profile?

That one is pretty basic. You could include the rank symbol code and the calculator, those are less commonly known.

Follow this syntax for putting in rank icons like

[rank=1]
Replace the 1 in rank=1 with the number of the rank you want (for example, Gefreiter is 3)

For some reason,

[rank=0]
posted by itself yields a completely blank-looking post.

Note: the icons show on desktop but apparently don't show on mobile.

Many thanks for this last one.  I've seen it before, never even thought about it.  Never even occurred to me people got that in there somehow.  Duh.  Thanks for that one, would have maybe NEVER known.

There is another way to do it too, by holding Alt and pressing 0173 (on the num-pad). It will give an invisible character.

just wanted to let you know :d
