Wow, some how this idea is not rejected because of "We do not accept ideas regarding changes to the actual Tanki Online to its previous versions, or ideas regarding the removal of updates.". Now I wonder what's the standard. Let me try something then.

I also like the idea of 9-10 minutes or so; it'd be a nice improvement to our ability to strategize, adjust equipment, and get around big maps, without significantly slowing down the "feel" of the game.

As OP mentioned, it's not really asking for a revert to an update because the situation now (with how stars are earned) is so different than it was when battles were shortened. That was done in part to help people earn stars faster, and that's no longer necessary.

This idea belongs to a category topic (Ideas for MM). Besides, there is nothing wrong with suggesting longer MM battles because, as the OP said - "we're no longer relying on battles for stars, then why are they still so short?" and this is a valid point.

Yeah, whatever, it is you guys who define what is valid and what is not on this forum anyway. Who am I to argue with a mod right?

We should also make some missions easier to compensate.

For example, missions like "Finish 2 CTF Battles" should be changed to "Finish 1 CTF Battle", because of the doubled time.

I will tell you my reason why I see 15 minutes is better than 7 minutes.

Imagine you have a free time and you want to spend one hour in the game. With the 7 minutes you will play 8 battles in the hour, battle after battle which is insane. But with the 15 minutes, you will play 4 battles in the hour, which is reasonable.

The 7 minutes aren't for the players who want to play seriously or to spend an amount of time for fun. It's only for the players who want to finish their missions quickly then leaving the game till the next day or converting to PRO. then saying MM is perfect

12 minutes would be good.

Can't believe that was not automatic for the super-large maps.  7 minutes on Lost Temple or Berlin or Dusseldorf?  ?

I think up to 10 minutes is a good length, for a battle, to earn a good score.

But longer than this can be bad because players will say that it's taking too long to earn stars.

We want to earn our 1-6 stars efficiently, but not too quickly so up to 10 minutes is pretty balanced.

10 minutes per battle is 6 battles in 60 minutes.

Seven minutes is not enough time to strategise or properly choose equipment based on the enemy team's equipment.

Actually I have a question, if you are not relying on battle for stars, then how do you earn stars effectively? From daily missions? I'm not sure are you able to earn stars by simply doing missions. From my experience, I still have to play quite a bit to reach the last reward.

If you complete all daily and weekly missions, you will get enough stars to finish the challenge (3000) every time.

  • 14 days * (30+50+70) stars = 2100 stars
  • 2 weeks * (100+150+200) stars = 900 stars

So essentially, all the stars you earn from battles do it help you finish faster or let you make up for missing a few missions. Special missions that reward stars also serve this purpose.

Er... I thought you need 10k stars to  complete the  challenge isn't it? Or did they changed it a while back?

Nope, it's 3000 - see Challenges

The highest it ever was before stars were added to missions was 2000, in some of the early month-long challenges. In the few challenges leading up to the addition of stars to missions it was 1000, but never 10k.

Ah, I remember that now. Apparently I like adding zeros behind any numbers I saw. Thanks a lot for the info.

Now I can just do the missions and forget about the game.

I hate it when I get put into an interesting CTF map where the enemy has effective defences, and just as I'm figuring out the right attack strategy and am about to go for the winning flag, the game just ends. So frustrating.

10-15 minutes would be nice. Maybe on larger maps only, because of how long it takes to just get across the map there.

I definitely agree with this idea, often MM is extremely one sided and one team always wins by a huge score difference (usually), and the rare games that I play, that there is actually balanced teams and it takes a long time to penetrate the enemy's defences, then the map ends too quickly in 7 minutes...

I personally would enjoy 10-15 minutes, of fair teams gameplay. 7 minutes is definitely too short for my liking.

7 min is actually too short to bring a change in the tide of the match. 10-15 or probably 20 min would be really good. This way we'll spend less time waiting and more time actually in the battle.

I think that MM duration should definitely be increased. It will give a fair chance for the losing team to at least try to win.

Hear me out on this one.

The duration of games will always be too long or short.

But also game limits i.e flag caps etc is also a thing.

Personally I don't mine 7m games, yes it's more like 6:50 at most, or even less for others that take a while to load in.

But the game consists of a set of players that will keep farming before the timer ends. I'd rather a game end sooner if its 1 sided than people have to bear brunt to stick around for a 'finish X game,  collect X supplys' etc.

If there's something to be done; it's matchmaking needs a real adjustment initially. Needs to become smarter and actually help orient 'matched' teams, which will be hard for sure.

And some games the duration doesn't matter because a team ends it within 3 minutes.

So back to my point, fix up the matchmaker system instead, the other battle refinements can come later.
