   The other I was suspended for using caps. I've come to learn that some people on this planet have some how made letters on a screen yell at people. Its funny because i've never had pixels make sounds.

 

   To me ALL CAPS IS FOR EMPHASIS.

 

Like "mleahy is THE BEST Titan Twins EVER".

 

 

 The internet age is still new. I think Tanki Online should not give into this idea that pixels on a screen YELL when they are IN CAPS. Its insanity. Its like hearing voice. "Oh my gosh I was so offended this guy USED ALL CAPS and now I feel bullied and depressed".

 

   By saying ALL CAPS is 'YELLING', we not only create a delusion. We also create a pathway that people can bully others. For if you are able TO YELL using pixels on a screen than you are likely going to be able to offend someone who believe this delusion.

 

  The rapper "The Streets" said in a song in 2002 [or so] that he writes in all caps. At the time this idea of YELLING PIXELS did not exist. 

 

  PLEASE TANKI DONT PROMOTE THE YELLING PIXEL DELUSION.

 

 

 

Please promote the idea that ALL CAPS MEANS EMPHASIS.

 

And please stop suspending people because their letters were capitals. Its insanity.

Of course you are entitled to your personal opinion about this but rules are rules, and they are meant to be respected. If you're talking about the forum, then you have plenty of tools are your disposal to create emphasis on specific words: italics, bold, underline, text size, text colour, etc.

 

In fact, even using CAPS for one or two words in your message won't get you into trouble. But using it excessively makes your post hard to read and indeed feels like you're "yelling". You'll find that the vast majority of people agree with that caps is annoying to read.

 

For in-game chats, I somewhat agree that it's a bit annoying how any ALL CAPS word longer than 4 letters gets automatically lower-cased. But at the same time it's understandable, since in chats caps lock is mostly used to spam, rather than emphasise.

"people agree with that caps is annoying to read." - Not to argue. But I really don't understand and would like someone to explain this to me. What makes ALL CAPS harder to read than non caps?    The way they are shaped? Bigger? I really dont get this at all. After you let me know I won't press the issue any further. I think we are in the beginning of the internet age and to make it so PIXELS on a screen can offend people is bad precedent. The Tanki Community could change or challenge this idea of yelling pixels. There's already millions of people [at least in the United States] where people are professional victims. They SEEK OUT ways to be offended. They complain about everything. EVerything hurts their feelings. And I would bet they were the one who created this idea that ALL CAPS are somehow malignant or malicious. That they YELL at people.    

   It wont be long before italics is mocking, and bold is sarcastic, and underline is screeching.   

 

Anyway, if you could let me know What makes ALL CAPS harder to read than non caps?

What makes ALL CAPS harder to read than non caps?  

At body text sizes, capital letters are harder to read than normal lowercase text. We read more lowercase text, so as a matter of habit, lowercase is more familiar and thus more legible. Furthermore, cognitive research has suggested that the shapes of lowercase letters—some tall (dhkl), some short (aens), some descending (gypq)—create a varied visual contour that helps our brain recognize words. Capitalization homogenizes these shapes, leaving a rectangular contour.

If you're talking about the forum, then there are plenty of options for you to emphasize. If you're talking about the chat, then I understand. I wish you could write bold, italic or strikethrough characters in-game. Many times I would need to emphasize a certain word and I can't because I can't italicise it and it would just be put back into common letters when I send it after putting it in capital letters.
