Madness, Highways, and Massacre

I was wondering, why were these maps removed in their previous form? I know for the latter two it was just in MM, but still. Those two used to be my favourite MM maps, now I just leave if I get placed in them. Why was it changed? And also, why was the old Madness changed?

Massacre and Highways were changed to be more suitable for Matchmaking gameplay format. They more cover and shorter distances in order to be more suitable for short range turrets. In my opinion, these two maps should just be removed completely since their gameplay in general is pretty terrible, but developers insist on keeping them. Oh well...

Madness was changed to solve a number of issues, including hackers, bad gameplay, sabotage, power levelling and critical errors.

The only change I noticed in Highways was the buildings on the upper tier were pushed back against the wall and the space in front of the buildings is narrower. What other changes were made? How did the changes to the upper tier make the map better for MM?

I think Massacre was fine the way it was before the walled in area.

I never experienced any issues with Madness, except maybe the holes in the bottom floor. Why couldn't the Devs just patch the holes? I didn't see any hackers, either. But that wasn't one of my favorite maps. By sabotage, do you mean players pushing each other off the ramps?

Just curious- Do you, personally, think these changes were worth it?

I haven't seen any change in Highways as far as I know

The distance from one side of the map to the other was made shorter. Basically, worse for long-range turrets, and a length where a Mammoth/Freeze can dominate JGR... even I was here when this change took place.

Highways got its alleyways that were behind the set of building on both sides of the map removed, I guess because it was easily exploited.

Madness bottom floor was removed because apparently it took too long to fall.

Honestly it wouldn't matter what changes were brought to the massacre map, it'd still provide crappy gameplay.

I loved the old Highways map.

I loved the old Highways map.

Which one? it was changed at least twice. One time was the removal of the space behind the house on the top floor, and then the reduction of the middle.

The one with the spaces behind the buildings. Before MM arrived.

The first Highways change was good. Made the map a bit more accessible. The second one though (where they made the middle section a little shorter) seems completely superficial and hasn't made a difference.

Madness change was an improvement, but it's still a terrible map with boring gameplay. Looks pretty cool, but the glitchy textures and the lack of cover make it frustrating for all modes except for maybe DM and TDM.

Why couldn't the Devs just patch the holes?

I don't know exactly what the issue was, but it wasn't due to holes.

And what do you think about the new Highways?

It's getting better, but while it is an interesting map, it's still unsuitable for MM so it's better to just get rid of it altogether, IMHO.

Same can be said for bobruisk, sandal, and sandbox. These maps are just way too small for even a 7v7 let alone an 8v8 or a 10v10. Their replacements should consist of deathtrack, skylark, and skyscrapers.

Not Skyscrapers!

It should be Scope, Deathtrack, and Skylark

I don't know, to me the smaller maps are actually quite fun since they add a nice change of pace and speed up gameplay process, compared to larger maps where your supplies run out by the time you get to the enemy base. I disagree about the 3 maps you proposed - the maps themselves are fun (skyscrapers is my absolute favourite), but they are way too large and open, so short and close range turrets will struggle there.

Well, in that case we should have a choice to play on a small, medium, or large sized map.

It sucks when you have a long ranged turret equipped and are sent to a small map and vice versa, and it takes a minute on average to go to the garage and equip the proper turret.

And if their good with that turret on that map, that's about 50 to 125 less points that'd they be earning.

That's true. I wish we had a way to vote for the map before being sent into a battle, but unfortunately it doesn't look like devs want to add anything like it.

I get a bit annoyed when people insist that maps should be removed, more for the presumption that most players think a map is bad. Bobruisk is one of my favorites.

I have issues with maps which make blowouts easier because the spawning areas are so easy to attack (Forest and Sandbox are the first ones I can think of), but they must have their fans too.

Playing the older versions of Highways was often frustrating because it was almost impossible to run the gauntlet down to the bottom so that you could sneak up the other side and attack all of the campers, but it was rewarding when you managed it and for me that was the point of the map (Brest is similar).

I've been on the new / MM a few times now and it's interesting in a Bridges, Bobruisk, and Brest thrown in to a blender sense, but now it's just another map instead of something unique.

Honestly, bobruisk is fine, if 16 to 20 players weren't just thrown into it. Plus in a 8v8 or 10v10, it's often a prime spawn killing map.

Idk if its bad for short range turrets to struggle. With so many small maps, a Fire can strap on a viking and has enough speed to get up close easily. If maps were larger, fires/freezes would need to switch to faster hulls and use more skirmishing tactics rather than charge into the center of the enemy. This is only from what Ive seen, but I hate seeing fire/freeze on med to heavy hulls

Firebird or Freeze on Mammoth with OD activated plus DA and DD can wipe out an entire nest.

Exactly. This might be why the mid ranks are most enjoyable bc equipment is strong but not so fast that everyone just spams viking or titan. With m4s, even titan is fast enough to get around most maps so why is more speed needed

And the fact that light hulls are so weak for their speed and most maps are close-medium range. Light hulls are used for base scouting/camping and it's hard to do well elsewhere with them.

Its hard to match the excitement of playing a good game with them tho. My favorite maps are the big ones where there is actually a difference between hulls and speed helps

These days, I feel to leave when put in Massacre, usually because my equipment doesn't do well there. I only stay if I have to finish a battle for a mission.

It's almost the same for the new Highways. My equipment on 3 of 4 accounts doesn't do well there.
