Just sayin'

tanki was a great game and has declined majorly since 2015. this game used to be actual FUN but now is just bad, where buyers spend $100 and win the game. might as well just donate money if you want to "win" every match. i remember playing it in early 2014 and actually enjoying it. also the developers make the dumbest updates that nobody asked for, and milk money for little kids. they care about money but have not patched bugs that have been in the game for years and years. id love to see this game turn back into what it was - a fair and enjoyable tank game for everyone

I started playing latter part of 2009 as @Torva-Messor. We helped Tanki break out of its beta shell so it could be free to develop and mature. The Devs asked for our help, we gladly gave them our help and the Devs listened. But they were inexperienced, one thing we didn't know. We wondered why it took so long to make changes. It was because they were learning as they went. It seemed, as they fixed one bug, 3 more appeared. Anyone who has seen a long string of code can tell you it can become very massive. If you change the code somewhere along the way, you have to backtrack or check forward to see how that one little change can affect the code already in existence. If you fix one bug, will that create another? If you introduce another element to the game, will that affect other elements.

The best example I can think of, off the top of my head, is the relationship between Firebird and Vulcan. Firebird was in the game long before Vulcan was even a thought. Yet, when Vulcan was introduced with it's over usage burn, Firebird's after burn  on enemy tanks affected Vulcan's self burn. How did they discover that? They reduced Vulcan's self burn and suddenly Firebird's burn became less effective. So, instead of going back through the code to see where the two turrets can be isolated, they introduced Alterations to Firebird and Vulcan to counteract the effects. Firebird and Vulcan are still connected, but the Alterations are isolated.

In 2009, the game had many bugs and glitches, such as, turing turrets, major lags, being booted out of the game for apparently no reason, Ghosting (I'm not talking about the keyboard) and many others. In 2012, 2013, 2014 and part of 2015 the game was running smoothly. Very few or at the most, minor lags. Turning turrets....gone, ghosting.....gone, being booted out randomly....nearly non existent. Many of the other bugs and glitches went away, too. The game was even more fun. Then along came latter part of 2015 until present day, many of those bugs are back. Why? What made them suddenly reappear? Apparently, we did with our potato computers, lack of knowing how to dump caches, resizing screens, etc. Arguably, yes, some players needed to be educated. How many times has a player come back and said, "I tried all that, but it still isn't working right"? I've lost count the many times I was given the same links over and over again to the point of being so tired of the insult to my intelligence, I quit complaining. The game started running so poorly, I went out and bought a gaming computer with a few bells and whistles just so I could play a decent game of Tanki. Well, guess what? The Mods still think I have a potato computer, unable to handle the game. According to the system requirements, this game should be running as smooth as silk. I have this and more:

So, why isn't it?

The Mods read our suggestions and complaints. Pick out the ones the CM might be interested in. The CM tells the Devs what they want to hear. The rest is, what? Trashed?

A game I played a few years ago and have recently gone back to, lost well over half of their players. Of those, most were paying members. The did a massive update that through the players for a loop. We had no idea what was about to happen, only that there was going to be big updates that we, the players, were going to love. It backfired. Now, before they implement any updates that will affect the game play, the Devs tell the players what their plans are and ask the players for feedback. It's discussed in the forums between the players and the Devs. Not only that, but they have a dedicated server strictly for the staff and a few hand picked players who have better gaming insight than the average player to try out new ideas.  Yes, tanki has test servers, but not all the players are serious enough to try out the new features as intended. I've been on some of those servers and only a very few had any idea what was going on. It was chaos.

Yes, I'm on my soapbox and it's past time to get off. Most players will pass this up, because their attention span is too short to read anything more than one or two paragraphs. Oh well, I said my peace and that's all that matters.
