Ares does not compare with Titan at all. It compares more with Viking due to its body size.

Actually, Ares is the largest hull of all, and it's in the same class as Mammoth and Titan - a heavy hull.

@Maf

Ares is supposed to be light and of similar class as of Titan and Mammoth. This is a cross-breed hull combining light and heavy hulls. That's good for a change in classifications.

It's not light and itsn't supposed to be. And yes, it's in the same class as Titan and Mammoth, like I said.

Doesn’t seem like it to me. If it’s a heavy hull why is it so easy to push? - it’s “heavy” innit??

That's meant to be the big disadvantage of hovering hulls. It's intentional. Although Hopper gets the better end of that deal, as I've glided right over the tops of tanks to get behind them, or past teammates blocking me.

Well that’s a BIG disadvantage(for Ares yes). Heavy hulls are slow, hard to push and have a high hp pool. Them being  hard to push thru is one of the main things allowing them to defend well. And since Ares can be pushed by even Wasps of lower modifications, it isn’t suited for a good line of defense imo.

Idk why devs made it that way knowing these fact. Maybe they expect players to capture flags with it : /

@E_polypterus Heavily armored, so lots of HP and slow

But a hovercraft isn't going to have as much traction as something with tracks, so it will be easy to push around

What doesn't make sense is Ares' low speed because it only has to deal with air resistance instead of air resistance + rolling resistance, but maybe the anti-gravity feature (and OD) needs so much power that there's not much left for movement

Or maybe the anti-gravity feature creates a not-friction resistance between the hull and the ground, like an eddy current brake, but that would also make it harder to push

?

Well there’re Ice spraying turrets and jumping hulls too lol so why need to be so realistic in this feature? It’s an important one for Ares too.

It's a trade-off I suppose. If you want the advantages of hovering, then there has to be a disadvantage

My biggest issue with Ares' is the lack of additional controls, you should be able to move the hull left / right / forwards / backwards and be able to point the hull / BFG in any direction by rotating it left or right

you can use Ares like that while playing on the PC. You will need to disable mouse controls and use Ares like other normal tanks.

You can't do this:

You should be able to drive Ares like you would fly a helicopter

@At_Shin They could use the "C" key to make the hull turn to where the turret is pointing instead of how it works now (I never use the "C" key), but your idea sounds good

I don't think there is a maneuvering problem, just a missed opportunity

I think Ares would be more interesting if players could drive it like a normal hull, but be able to fire the BFG in more directions instead of forwards and backwards (driving in reverse)

I've always assumed Ares is the heavy hull you use for attack, instead of defence.

Finally some stats about its OD https://en.tankiwiki.com/Overdrive

Specifications

  • Damage/Healing: 500 (hp/tick) / Pretty OP
  • Damage/Healing radius: 6 meters / that's about mammoth length
  • Shot delay: 0.07 sec
  • Speed: 10 m/s
  • Recoil force: 0.05
  • Dmg pause between ticks: 0.1 sec / LOL they can't keep the tick to the same unit of time.

Interaction with other overdrives

  • Might be shot down by Hunter’s electromagnetic pulse;
  • Explodes when contacting an enemy plasma ball;
  • Neutralizes itself when the protective shield generator is activated;
  • Can not be deactivated with Wasp’s N2-bomb.

Additional Information

  • The ball of plasma has also the ability to heal allies near it.
  • The energy ball ignores tanks and only explodes when it collides with objects on the map. / I saw one exploding on a Double Armor drop XD
  • The ball is fired towards the hull, not the cannon. / Which is weird when you play with the keyboard.

Thanks for sharing this information. But, i do not understand the quoted statement. Pls explain.

He means that the ball always fires where your hull is pointed, and keyboard players often have their hull pointed backwards/sideways/etc. while shooting. So to them it will take tome time to get use to the fact that they have to turn the hull in the direction they want to fire.

For mose players this is less of a problem because the hull automatically faces where the turret is turned.

1/ Thanks for sharing this information. But, i do not understand the quoted statement. Pls explain.

2/ does not the ball speed depend upon hull speed, as both, ball and hull speeds are supposed to be equal?

1/ I turn my turret with Ares (silly me), so I end up the rear being the front, and if i shoot... ?  the ball go behind me. I have to remember to put the turret align with the front of the hull. Mobile player and other using the mouse won't have that issue.

2/ No, the speed of the ball is independent of the speed of the Ares hull. Remember it is tanki mechanics, keep it it simple, they have enough trouble to make simple thing works. XD

Ares
 Мk1
 Мk2
 Мk3
 Мk4
 Мk5
 Мk6
 Мk7
Мk7+
6809c52f.png Top Speed (m/sec)
5.40
5.64
5.87
6.06
6.29
6.44
6.62
7.00
Top speed with Speed boost
7.6
7.9
8.0
8.2
8.5
9.0
9.3
9.8

So the ball is just fast enough to outpace its initiator, until it reaches Mk7/7+. It is the speed of a Wasp Mk1 :D., Hornet Mk1/2 and Hopper Mk3. Medium hull will need a booster to outrun it.

It is unnatural to have both the hull and the gun lined up.

I havent seen Ares used much so not sure how it compares to the other heavies? It looks quite fast, so when/why would you use it over the others. What are the problems with it?

I see it occasionally and I'd still be using it now if Hopper wasn't released. I think it's pretty cool, but people just didn't get accustomed to hover hulls yet, and some may still be waiting for sales to finish upgrading it to Mk8 before using it in MM battles.

Hopper is everywhere, which is cool, but maybe have seen 1-2 Ares

Maybe Hopper still has the novelty bonus. But I'm honestly not sure. Overall, people tend to prefer faster hulls though, and heavy hulls in general are not that popular. You don't see that many Titans and Mammoths either.
