Tweaks to the balance of Overdrives and Gauss, and more

Playing in a CP battle with Hunter and zapped a Viking Twins and stunned him.

But was not able to kill him (Module I think) before stun wore off.

 

Immediately the twins turned on OD and killed me in < 3 seconds. Um hello! Isn't Hunter OD supposed to re-set other tanks OD to 0?

No, it doesn't reset other's ODs, that would be too much. If it did Vikings would never be able to use their ODs, except in Parkour.

Overall, I think this is a fair Tweak. The Mammoth overdrive was a bit too long. It became a rolling juggernaut that was unstoppable destroying everything in it's path. Allowing the OD to kick in sooner is fair and also shortening the OD period is fair. The tweak to Gauss, it also fair. Now it is competitive. The difference is slight, but noticeable. I hope they don't nerf it.

Guess you are right.  There's a mention of "temporary" blocking of OD...

But wasps bomb resetting mammoths OD isn't too much?

Guess you are right.  There's a mention of "temporary" blocking of OD...

All it does is make the enemies unable to act with their Overdrive enabled since they're stunned. You can zap and Overdriven Viking and it wouldn't disable the Overdrive but it would stun the Viking which you can call "blocking".

Im sure you noticed "very good" changes in Highways map, and i would like to ask why you destroying old good maps like this, you did it to Massacre now you are doing it again. Stop making changes which no one wants. I curious why you just cant make another map called "Brain Damaged Highways" and add it to the game, why you need to modify the existing one. I hope its just big misunderstanding and the map will return to the state it was before.

The map was changed in order to better fit the Matchmaking gameplay. If you prefer older versions, the non-MM version is still available to play via PRO battles.

Firat of all i want it to be a separate topic, if i want it to be here i would post it here, stop trying to block my voice. Second explain me please how this changes better fit the MM gameplay? Thrid I dont want to play it on pro because most of players are not even aware of this function and there is a few player there.

If you want to provide feedback for a recent change, this is the place to do it. We do not allow separate topics to be made with comments/complaints about every little change within one big update.

 

Q:

1.explain me please how this changes better fit the MM gameplay?

 

2. NO i dont want to play old one in pro, thre are not enough players in this mode and battles are empty (thanks to devs of course).

 

3. Why you cant just once make online survey and ASK players how they feel about changes before you implement them? WHy you first make something and then ask how players feel about it? (also no matter what community says any changes never been withdrawned).

 

4. Please stop destroying the game, since the update when you make MM kind of obligatory (only way to do missions, and catch goldboxes) this game is getting more and more unplayable.

1. MM maps have to be suitable for all turrets and all hulls, meaning that there can't be too many open spaces (close range turrets would struggle) and there can't be long distances (slow hulls would never get anywhere). Highways was too tall and didn't provide enough cover. Going across the bridge to attack was always suicidal, while driving up and down all the ramps took so long that your supplies run out by the time you get to the enemy base. This is why the height was lowered and more cover was added.

 

2. True, but the map is still available if you want to organise a private match, or a photoshoot/rank-up, etc.

 

3. Because players are just casual people, most of whom have zero experience designing maps and gameplay for a game like Tanki. You may think that players know what they want, but the reality is that if players could run the game by popular vote, it would turn into a disaster. This is not just a case for Tanki, but business in general - you can't just let the public make all decisions regarding development.

 

Highways was always a very problematic map that many players complained about. You may not like these changes, but in fact I'm pretty sure the majority will prefer the new version.

Let me guess, you are a shaft user :D

 

Many players dislike the highway maps because it is like a sniper's alley. So when they are sent to this map by MM, they just leave it right away, without even playing. Then one of the team become unbalanced and/or the overall number of player drops. This is not ideal for the players nor fro MM system.

So what TO can do? Change the map, so less people will quite the map, or just remove the map from the MM menu? 

I think it would be a shame to remove it all together, there is a lot of interesting strategy beside constant snipping. Hopefully the changes will bring more versatile game-play and less snipers.

And what about maps where the only thing that dominates battle is gauss? Nothing? Highways is unique camper map and all other maps are just made for gauss buyers.

 

Even as firebird user i like highways map because of its uniqueness

Not only that, but whenever I choose CP and end up in that map, I would use stock striker, go camp on the tallest ledge in my teams base, and just throw salvos at any enemy that try to capture the bridge points.

 

And I ended up having a lot of kills, and only about 3 deaths max every time the battle ends. My whole team protected me from head on attacks without realizing it. And this was what I called an exploit.

I hunt Shafts for a living and I still find Highways bad, it's probably better for CP mode but that's it.

Wasp cancels Mammoth's OD, and that's the ability devs decided to give Wasp. So if used and then cancelled it means going to zero.

 

There can't be a cancellation and the OD being full again.

 

I don't like that ability by the way, specially now that Mammoth's OD lasts 5 seconds.

I get targeted by surprisingly accurate Railguns there and then there are the Shafts that see me as an immediate threat. I don't survive long.

Ya know, in team battle, Shafts in Highways can get very high K/D! This frustrates other tankers because they get spawnkilled by those Shafts. So yes, I favor this change. This mean there is less likely that an enemy tank equips Eagle module.

 

To me, I like Highways, but I don't mind the change.

Gauss was OP, although not for everyone and not for all circumstances.

 

Now they noobified it without reducing damages or adding a laser to it.

so i came back after a long break and i am having this weird fps drop every time i open my garage and i have to restart the game to get my fps back to normal. any solution for this? (tried -clearing cache, latest client running, etc)

Wow. You developers did a magnificent job on the new refurbished Highway map. This map is so much better now. What I would suggest is to add a few more trees at the top level banks on all four corners of the map. There are already some tree there, but adding a few extra more trees would make it a much better hiding place for Shaft players. Overall, the new Highway map is much more spacious so it makes it a lot easier for me to play on.

I've been playing on the Highways map.  It's now just another boring homogenized "drive to the other side and try to spawn kill" map.  It is as bland and insipid as what Tanki did to Massacre.  Why must all the maps be the same?  The game is suffering from tedium as it is, why remove any type of variety...I would think Tanki would be trying to introduce MORE variety not remove it.  Each map may be techinically different but they are all just about the same.  What a shame that all the character is being squeezed out of every MM maps.

 

When do the buildings go up on the Stadium map?

Doing that is a necessity, because the Game needs to accommodate most of the players, and that means accommodating as most of the Turrets and Hulls as possible.

 

But I have a different solution, and that is to make players play for the team and not for themselves by giving more points and rewards for team accomplishments.

Highways has the worst leveldesign in all of TO. Heavily biased to long range turrets. I agree with massacre though, they seriously botched that map up.

To me, I like Highways, but I don't mind the change.

I feel like Highways is just one of those maps that should have never been added to MM. It's interesting, but it was specifically designed to be a sniper map, and its layout is quite extreme and unique. Other maps have a bit of everything - some hills, some houses, some bridges, some cover, but Highways is like two sides with a bunch camping balconies connected with the Valley of Despair below and Bridges of Death above. It's interesting, but much more fitting for stuff like custom format battles and special events (rank-ups, parades, etc.). Kind of like Monte Carlo or Madness, albeit much less extreme.

 

Highways has undergone something like 3 or 4 edits since it was added to MM, and by now the changes are so great that they might as well make a brand new map with similar features and leave the original Highways as a PRO-only map. But I suppose the current design is decent.
