What to do when Flash goes away

This is a mockup screen shot; they copied the repair kit description. It might as well say "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..." as nonsense. The point is not to show you how that exact element will display on the new interface in detail, but rather what the UI as a whole will look like with a semi-plausible example. The is no/minimal code behind this.

I always wondered why games do this. The mobile game I played would have these kinds of screenshots showing data that isn't reflective of how it is in-game. It kind of peeved me how inaccurate it was but I guess they have their reasons for doing it.

It was more obvious with the Thunder and Dictator stats but I feel as if they could have used the repair kit with its description instead of double armour with repair kit's description.

1) Please make sure not to remove support for Flash Player alltogether as I use Standalone Flash, and I love to play it from there.

2) Please optimize your HTML5 version heavily. This means

  • Minify production JavaScript
  • Optimize it, with Google Closure Compiler
  • Slim down any external libraries (such as jQueri UI) to only essentials
  • Use Gzip to compresss datastreams
  • Use HTTPS
  • Keep HTML tags to a minumum -- this shall reduce the time it takes to work with the DOM
  • Prefer Hashtables to iterations
  • Keep scope to a bare minimum
  • Switch is better for optimization than if

I am a programmer myself, and I know that a properly written engine will run optimally regardless of platform, even on a 1.2Ghz 1GB RAM Linux machine. Besides, I would love to be able to play Tanki from my Linux box.

small price to pay for a fully functional forum ;)

What is on the Russian forum that isn't here? I know different engines, but how does that workout in the daily use of the forum?

If nothing else, there wont be so many bugs and glitches.

Maybe you need to make a new topic with instructions and maybe videos to promote the use of the Client. It's the best option. It's simple but for some reason many don't use the client.

If you're like me, the Tanki client isn't really an option.

Since MatchMaker was introduced, the load times for games has become so long (and so unreliable) that it simply was no longer tolerable.  As the games got shorter, both in time and victory conditions, the amount of time spent waiting for a game to start grew to as much as half the lengths of the game itself - which was totally unacceptable.

But I play several accounts, so the temporary solution was - queue up 2 or 3 games at once, and when one begins to load, cancel the extra games.  Sure, start time still sucks really bad, but at least if one of the accounts is for a "rugby" or "assault" game and it hangs, it doesn't take 4 minutes and logging back in to fix it (actually MORE time than the game itself!!!)  And if you think about it - which would you rather have?  The waiting time of ONE game picked at random?  Or the SHORTEST of THREE waiting times, picked at random?  The answer should be obvious.  Waiting time can be anywhere from 15 seconds to 3 minutes IF the game loads properly.  Average load time is around a minute and a half  which is about 1/4 the length of the game if the game lasts the full time.  With lowered victory conditions, a lot of games don't even last 6 minutes - and I have NEVER actually seen the times at 6:00 when entering a game... so all the time estimates are actually conservative.

But suppose the waiting times are 20 seconds, 90 seconds and 150 seconds for three games started at the same time?  Which would you prefer?  In the first case, you only spend about 5% of game length waiting.  In the second, it's 25% and in the third it's  all the way up to 41%

So that's just one way to make MatchMaker a little more tolerable.  It is still the most horrible change Tanki ever made, but at least with the shortest of several, the waiting times are not quite as painful.  If you had to use the game client, the waiting time would simply be too much to endure and a lot more people would just quit Tanki.

When remaking the new HTML5 version, please leave the trees and bushes out of it, and many camping shielding obstructions too.

Camping needs a big nerf, otherwise you'll keep losing non-camping team-oriented players.

If you think back, you may recall a time when "teams" actually formed spontaneously following an exciting, complex, close, challenging game.  I can recall playing 5 or 6 games in a row where the teams only changed by a couple players over the course of an hour and a half.

But that was before MatchMaker.  MatchMaker destroyed any concept of spontaneous "team" play. The "teams" today are a poor substitute, since it's difficult to even get everyone on line at the same time.

So - bottom line; Most team players have already left.  The same is true of "strategic" players.  Today's Tanki is more like one of the old video games - Missile Command or Mario than something that involves planning - like Halo.  It's just shoot, run, hide, shoot, shoot, run, hide.  The word "plan" never arises.

What we have left is mostly people who like lots of explosions and noise.

I do not use Chrome to play Tanki since in Chrome you cannot use Mouse controls and you cannot turn your turret like you can in Firefox and IE 11.  I use strictly Firefox ESR 52.1.2 to play Tanki because I can use the mouse controls and the arrow keys along with the mouse to control the movement of the tank and so far it has been working just fine. (of course the occasional lag and the other glitches of Tanki are still present)

Sine the post does not mention anything regarding Firefox, can we say that this post does not apply to Firefox or IE 11?

Any information will be appreciated.

So very true! That's why I do only missions in MM so I can save some crystals to buy the Pro pass where I can create a battle on whatever map I want, or I can join an existing battle that lasts over 15 min or more than 3 flags where most of the times the teams stay the same for multiple games. MM is just useless trash. Most of the time I wait over a minute only to get dumped on a battle that is about to end. It is so frustrating!

Here's hoping you'll fix the endless amount of "an error has occurred", and freezes in game.

Sorry, I got bad news for you. I joined tanki about 3 years ago and that error was just as common then as it is now. So, if it has not been fixed by now, do not expect to be fixed anytime soon. However, you can expect another Shop sale where you can waste your money to buy something that tomorrow you will most likely get in a container! In the mean time, enjoy your Peru or Poland paints that you will never use and the color shots for turrets you do not even have because Hazel Rah thinks it should be so.

the design is modern, as far as I've heard it doesn't have bugs like this forum, it's real time, it has notifications and its more secure

How is that complicated? It's 5-6 clicks lol. Also, why are you changing the interface? It's simple and aesthetically pleasing the way it is. Paints need some organisation though.

agreed the paint system now is garbage, in the past we use to have holiday and special paints in the front . now it takes too long to find them burred within other paints. they might also want to organize them in alphabetical order .

To be honest, I prefer the RU forum since it's more modern and has some features that we don't have here such as "Folowers", the option to switch between two themes, getting a notification when someone tags you somewhere in the forum, etc...

I prefer to lose my post count to see these features in the EN forum.

*shrug* I joined in 2011 originally, and they never swayed away from flash, so maybe there's hope now.
