Why doesn't anyone defend anymore?

As much as offense gets more credit and score in battles, I feel that team defense can end up being the difference maker in CTF and RGB.

 

As an example, here's a relevant anecdote:

 

Not too long ago, I was in Molotov RGB where my team lost 1-2.  While my teams had a consistent offensive drive (2-4 players going for the goal), the other team had better team defense overall.  Try as my teammates might, they struggled to get past 3-5 defending foes.  Meanwhile, my team's defense was sloppy and shallow (my defense included), which allowed foes to easily score 2 goals against us.  And the funny thing is?  The enemies' offense wasn't even as strong as my team's!  Most of their offensive drives involved 1(!) player, never involving 3 or more players.  I'm certain that even a slightly improvement in our defense would've at least kept the score tied.  Oh sure, having star players running a strong offense might have prevented this, but we don't always have those, do we?

In 3 consecutive CTF matches I was defending the flag, laying mines and helping others. I only killed 3 or so opponents in each all of which either would have got the flag or had the flag. Last place and zero stars every time. 

 

Next couple of games I sit and snipe (loving the new turret) I come 3rd with a stupidly high KD but not helping anyone but myself. 

 

This game is really screwed up!

This game used to have teamwork that worked, but the Devs have designed the game to discourage teamwork. It's all about me, me, me.

Exactly, it only encourages selfishness. Forget the defending, now teammates shove you off under the enemy fire just to steal that DA /DD/SB

drop box. It is not their mistake either, the game rewards you more for being selfish. Cherry on the top, they give you "top 3" missions.

Different drug mechanics. Before you would most often fight on one drug, as smart cooldowns were longer. Also, longer active time allowed defenders to keep defending after once being attacked, while the attackers could wait for the right moment to attack.

 

Magnum and unfair scoring system additionally makes defending obsolete. Overdrives as a whole hinder defenders.

 

Losing is no more a problem with shorter battles and changed fund distribution, so there is no motivation to protect the flag.

 

Tanki used to be a constant fight between attackers and defenders. Now it's only about rushing mindlessly on full drugs.

DM is more fun but still nothing like old Tanki.

Most of the maps are lousy for 16-tank DM matches.  They just become mosh-pits where it's luck whether or not you respawn with 1-3 enemies right behind you.  Tendency for tanks to last 30 seconds... then die - respawn- repeat.

 

I find them very boring - and only do those missions if I end up with 2 same night or if I have it because I've already switched once.  Even then - I might just do 2 missions that night and hope I can use free-switch on it next night.

Have to disagree with you here.

 

Most of the maps are lousy for 16-tank DM matches.  They just become mosh-pits where it's luck whether or not you respawn with 1-3 enemies right behind you.  Tendency for tanks to last 30 seconds... then die - respawn- repeat.

 

I find them very boring - and only do those missions if I end up with 2 same night or if I have it because I've already switched once.  Even then - I might just do 2 missions that night and hope I can use free-switch on it next night.

30 seconds, huh. That long. Hummmm...I must be doing something wrong, like getting killed. Or maybe it's because the only decent weapon I have for DM is Firebird/Viking. I just recently purchased Gauss, but am not using it very often until I get some MUs behind it.

 

I try to avoid DMs unless there are some good crystals to be had. If it's batteries and/or supplies, I'll change it. But if it's a mission like play 2 battles I'll do it. The others I'll change.

I think this question goes hand-in-hand with "Why does no one speak English anymore?" Most battles I am in everyone speaks Russian. It is impossible to communicate any strategy in that situation. Plus it is just annoying having no idea what anyone is saying. FWIW, Russian in the 8th most spoken language while English is 3rd. Change is needed on those servers...

Trooper Drone and modules - that's how i last 30 seconds.  First 10-15 seconds is most crucial - and that's where Trooper comes into play.

Well, if you memorise some words, you can have an idea as to what they're trying to communicate. It can be as simple as a turret's name and profanity after it. That can signal to everyone else that they're annoyed or frustrated. They can say "ф" or "флаг", then they mean to return the flag or watch the base for attackers.

But the game is a Russian game. And if the majority of the demographic is Russian, then why must they speak English as a lingua franca? If anything, Russian should be the lingua franca.

Cool, can you tell me what "If you want to play TDM F**k0ff and play TDM, this is CTF" is in Russian please?

Before the server merger we could communicate.  They merged servers because of MM.  Do you think t was worth it?

That's a more polite way to put it.

Takaros, Merion and elmemo and I were working together to defend and attack. We were down 2 - 1 then coordinated our attacks to steal the flag and capture twice making it 2 -3. 

 

Teamwork exists, it's just hard to find, and usually hard to maintain when found.

It is not a case of must speak english, but a case of setting the servers up so that english speakers can play together. Learning Russian would be a waste of time. It would be useless to do so. Additionally, I know the whole idea of capitalism a mystery to Russia, but it is a good idea to give your clients what they want. It is clear this is a Russian game. It ignores the customer and does the opposite of what they want for short term gain.

I have said it before and I stand by the idea that the devs are killing Tanki to push people to TankiX. All that is left for Tanki is to be used to squeeze whatever cash is left from the remaining customers and use it to test ideas for TankiX.

Look, I love playing with people from all over the world. That was one of the draws for this game. It means nothing when most of the world cannot communicate with the bulk of the players they are paired with.

1 flag captured = 100 points

1 flag returned = 5 points

I think it would be something like:

 

Capturing a flag 40 ponts for the capturer.

 

Capturing a flag 20 points for the rest of the team.

 

Killing an enemy tank 5 points, being divided with others if there are more killers of said tank.

 

Killing an enemy flag carrier 10 points, being divided with others if there are more killers of said tank.
