Soft Balance Idea Regarding Alterations, Repair Price

Recommended Posts

I don't want to seem like I'm just writing about how OP alterations are, far from it, Alteration's have been monitored and adapted by developers for a better balance, and I'm thankful for that! My idea is meant to help with that balance by introducing a small fee for being killed while you have an alteration equipped, this is geared toward reducing the number of more powerful and higher-rank alterations that everyone uses, without reducing any stats. The more expensive and powerful an alteration is, the larger the cost. Small, beginner alterations like pumps and assault rounds will only have a repair cost of 5 crystals per death, not much. More OP and expensive (expensive alterations don't always mean better) such as Uranium Launcher or Duplet will cost around 30-50 crystals per death.

Summary:

Alterations will now have a cost every time you die with one equipped, small alterations have a very small fee but bigger alterations have a more noticeable fee.

I'll leave the exact calculations up to developers if this is something that is popular.

Developers never add penalties for using in-game items, so paying 5 crystals every time you die with the alteration will not happen. More importantly, there aren't meant to be any "powerful" alterations - they're all supposed to be balanced. So instead of adding some kind of penalty, the alterations should be adjusted to better fit in with the overall game balance. You can suggest changes for balancing alterations in this topic.

Buyers obviously would be most able to afford to pay for alteration usage.

This would just add another layer to Pay-to-Win.

Isn't that exactly what batteries are for drones? I mean, this idea is bad obviously but that's a bit of a weird reasoning.

Well with batteries, you get bonus damage + protection from turrets and mines, as well as an effect that greatly benefits either you or yourself and your entire team.

Tank lifespans these days are short, it's easy to be one-shotted. So getting your crystals deducted for something out of your control wouldn't be appreciated.

And then you have the Blaster and Miner Drone. Those require you to be destroyed for it to activate its effect. So for those two, you're being penalised for ustilising its effect.

True, true. I see your point. I think repair charges were a thing for like, A version of the old beta. They were quickly dropped.
