Pre-2018 Module System vs Current System

This was in my mind for a while and decided to post this topic, but looks like there is a chance it will be closed.

For me, this will depend on 2 factors (my opinion): Cost and effectiveness

To me, back in the old days (what I mean is end of 2017 and early 2018), I do not find anything annoying but the turret I am using.

That's when I bought Falcon S-B module (Eagle module's old name) and upgraded to M1 10/10 because it was cheaper back then if I focused on single-protection module. Until June 2018 update struck in, module became suddenly pricey, thought that my plan got ruined and wanted to quit the game.

Because of my signature module build, I started to feel show mercy to tankers even though their turrets may drive me nuts. However, I do not show mercy to those who are in my turret group. What I mean is if I am an Isida for example, I would not equip Fox, Panther or anything else but Ocelot module.

A year later (as now), I still do the same thing. Except Mines became my new enemy, that's when I added Spider module as an addition.

Overall, I like the old system because its low price tag and upgrade cost.

But nowadays for me, mines are annoying than all turrets combined. Especially me as a Hornet.

There are some really useful modules from that era, but it's a lot to sift through in a fast-paced MM battles if you have a lot of them to suit your different combinations. While I don't like the exorbitant prices of the current modules, it does add much needed flexibility and better quality-of-life access in MM battles and/or fast-paced PRO battles.

My most memorable purchase on this account was Ocelot D-D. Ocelot-D-D.png

It was a tough decision as I went back and forth wondering which one would be more beneficial, that, or Panther D-B.

Only my Hammer protection made it to M3 because I bought the Bumblebee Kit back at I think. My Isida protection is still at 30% and is my least used module.

It had to be done anyway, with all the new turrets the previous system was not sustainable. You can debate about the overall cost, but it happens when the amount of crystals per xp was drastically increased. So if you look at the small picture it looks bad, if you look at the bigger picture it is actually not bad. Low rank can also have 3 protections instead of just one.

I just bought Owl, and can not now upgrade it independently (and only once) and mix it with any other combination.

I'm sure we can all agree that the module names that devs came up with are absolutely genius, but for the sake of convenience how about we call them by the turret they protect against - rail prot, isida prot, etc.

It depends on how you look at it. If your goal is to protect yourself against Rico, Railgun and Thunder and nothing else, then yes - getting a single 50% triple module was a lot cheaper back then. But if you want to be fully versatile with your protections in order to be prepared for any kind of enemy, you now have to purchase and upgrade the equivalent of 14 triple modules, whereas with the old system you'd have to buy, upgrade and memorise all 70+ triple modules and you still wouldn't have every single combination of protections.

In that sense the current system is far superior.

Yes, there were specific combination of turrets that did not exist, so you couldn't protect exactly how you wanted to. The modules are pricy but they are definitely worth over another weapon or hull if you're already geared up...

Excuse me?

Um no, still calling them by the module name.  B)

The problem is the cost of each module. It doesn't make sense that a module costs about the same a hull or a turret.
