Wasp bomb - Something needs to change!

 Share

Question

The wasp bomb is completely and totally unfair.    Tanki needs to offer an opportunity to buy protection or power down and distance of the bomb.

It is making this game unbearable.   Just get rid of the bomb and give them the same thing you give dictator.

Unimaginative.

More opportunities to escape the bomb become available as you progress through the modifications of light and medium hulls. I see that you use Firebird mostly, which would explain you complaining about it. You'd be up in the Wasp's face when they drop it and while you're engaging them, you wouldn't have time to get out.

But look at it like this. Hornets get to ignore double armour and protection modules. Wasp has a bomb that is escapable. Not so much at M0 and M1, more so at M2+. If they used the bomb solely on you, be glad they didn't use it on a group of your allies. Drawing out enemy Overdrives to one person benefits your team.

So we have done: Wasp, then hunter, then dictator, then hornet and now back to wasp. I was going to say who is next, hunter as we restarted the loop or go for a new hull? I mean Titan is clearly OP...

Nah, Mammoth's is the most OP

I once drove off the edge of the map (on Silence) because I didn't want the humiliation of being killed by a Mammoth's OD

I was under one of the ramps and the Mammoth was blocking the only exit

No other OD has the power of shame

Wasp's bomb can be annoying sometimes, especially when you're spawning next to one and can't escape, but I escape it or EMP it more often than I get killed by it. Hunter M1/10. If I EMP a wasp and it retaliates with it's OD, I consider than a win because it's a waste of an OD. Same for Viking and Titan.

So should I feel patriotic when a Hunter zaps me...

Nah

If a Hunter uses their Overdrive solely on me, whether by their choice or by me enticing them, I feel like I did a good job for my team. Especially in modes in Assault and Rugby.

But you gotta admit that outrunning one feels good as well.

Nope,  back to hornet: Overdrives are unfair and unbalanced

How do Dictator and Wasp have these threads...lol. Perhaps what devs could do would be to add 30 seconds to the regular charge time to limit how often overdrives happen. I got "drived" 3x in 30 seconds yesterday....spawn 3x and die instantly. nothing I could do about it...felt bad

The nuke still hits even if you are covered with a wall between you and the nuke.

If any spec of your tank is exposed to the bomb, then you will be dealt damage and impact force. In those 3 seconds, it's very hard to figure out if you should line up perpendicular or parallel to the wall in order to fully escape the bomb's damage.

The latter can see yourself getting damaged because a small part of your hull was exposed. The former can see yourself getting damaged if the bomb's damage trajectory and radius happens to extend where the back half of your tank is.

What is needed is some actual counter to Wasp's bomb.  Hunter theoretically has a counter measure, but it is almost impossible to deploy effectively because of Hunter (now even longer) delay

Also Wasp should not be able to drop a bomb while stunned or frozen.  I've had a Wasp completely frozen with Freeze and it drops a  bomb on me....mutual death.

I still zap a lot of Wasp bombs with Hunter, even when the countdown is on "2", just have to react almost instantly, possibly easier with a low ping

I'm biased on Hunter because I don't use anything else, but one change I would accept is not being to return a flag or steal a rugby ball unless you kill the tank

What I don't want is the supply cool down to be made so short that it allows stunned tanks to use repair kits instead of (wasting) their ODs as a defence

edit: Oh, and Dictator's OD probably gives me more grief than anything else, especially when they are working in teams and taking turns to share, and the freezing effect is almost as bad as Hunter's OD

Also Wasp should not be able to drop a bomb while stunned or frozen.  I've had a Wasp completely frozen with Freeze and it drops a  bomb on me....mutual death.

How would freezing it affect its ability to place the bomb? It is still moving; it is still active. It can do everything it can do when it's unfrozen. I don't see why it shouldn't be able to drop a bomb if a Freeze is shooting it.

Titan's dome is a soft counter to Wasp's bomb. The placement is instant rather than a delay, although you can be killed by 100% damage in a veeeeery tight window between activating the Overdrive and the dome being placed.

I'm biased on Hunter because I don't use anything else, but one change I would accept is not being to return a flag or steal a rugby ball unless you kill the tank

I already have a solution for this. If I'm using Hornet or Wasp and I see a Hunter whose body language indicates that its Overdrive is ready and will be used against me, I'd wait until it charges up then throw the ball. The speed of my Wasp/Hornet (with speed boost) would be fast enough to allow my deceleration to slide far enough to pick up the ball right as I fully decelerate.

But again, I'm still a Hornet/Wasp, and I have no double armour now, so it'd be easy to kill me there if I have no protection against the enemy turret.

Ugh, I wish wasp had an overdrive that consistently priduced. The bomb sometimes gets value but so many times does nothing

You mean like Hunter now?

Oddly enough - I still get caught plenty by the bomb.  They usually drop it when you are not moving - from stand-still you can't get away unless you have a light hull.

Not to mention that the fast recharge time allows you to have plenty of opportunities to get kills from the bomb.

You response is a thought Id not specifically thought of. I recently had two friend dueling huntet vs viking 1v1 and hunter outshone viking due to the fast recharge...that being said, the hunter player wasted a number of overdrives...which I think is cool. Its a powerful ability but one that isnt mindless any more

How the heck did the Hunter get close enough?  Viking using fire or something?

I never thought Hunter OD was mindless - even though I've been stunned just like everyone else.  I've probably died more from wasp bomb than I have from Hunter hitting me with stun and then killing me.
