Inverted MM CTF Battles

To quote Semyon Strizhak in the V-Log - "And simple has a tendency of getting boring very quickly."

 

So let's mix CTF up a bit. How about for limited time events (their choosing), the flags in CTF battles are inverted like they are in the original Massacre and current Combe. It won't be as simple going into the enemy base, taking their flag and heading back to yours. No. You spawn with the enemy flag, and must capture it in the enemy base, where your flag is held hostage.

I think this idea has both positives and negatives to it. On one side, it would peak players' interests, as this mode has the basic characteristics of the beloved Capture the Flag mode, but it provides a new dynamic to this mode, which would cause each battle to pan out much differently than the usual CTF mode. On the other side, however, this idea might not be as popular as expected amongst players, as there is no doubt that there will be lots of people using "camping" equipment (Heavy Hulls, Long-Range Turrets), which could get just as annoying and boring as typical CTF matches, except, much quicker.

For example, I already get bored and angered after playing a few CTF matches in a row, especially if it is large map, like Stadium or Serpukhov, where the majority of players use Railgun or Shaft in these maps, as it gets annoying to be under constant pressure by people using this type of equipment, as they are never destroyed, and can easily kill you in one or two shots. I have a feeling there would always be someone interested in playing this mode, especially if the mode is only out for a limited-time, but I am not sure how many players would be interested. It could either turn into Deathmatch, which was taken out because of how infrequent people queued for this mode, or it could end up being just as popular as the standard Capture the Flag mode. 

With this being said, we will ultimately leave it up to the Developers to form their own opinions on the matter, and make an executive decision on whether or not to add this mode into the game.

Interesting idea, but I hated massacre even more during that time.  The thing is, in normal CTF battles, when a bad player and a good player try to reach the enemy flag, the bad player usually gets taken out first.  This process filters out the bad players, and lets the good player play the objective better.  In my experience, in inverted CTF battles, the bad players with fire wasp keep taking the flag and running at the enemy, just to die and reset.  This wastes everyone’s time, as the better players are unable to touch the objective, and have to constantly wait for the flag.

Inverted CTF was interesting because there was no alternative. But nowadays we have Assault and Rugby, which are both quite similar in concept to inverted CTF. Also, inverted CTF takes considerable teamwork, and with MM battles being full of very casual players, I imagine it would get extremely frustrating to watch your teammates do things which contradict basic strategy of the game (like returning your flag when enemies are waiting to pick it up). Also also, I'm pretty sure most  MM maps aren't suited for this kind of gameplay, so most battles would either be extremely unbalanced or stale.

Yup - there were always those players who would touch the flag just after they killed the carrier while you were only half-way to the cap point.  By the time you got there the other flag was gone of course.  They never realized (or listened) to those telling them to wait... wait... don't return it yet...
