Mortar reverted to stock Magnum in PRO battles

Mortar lays a Mine wherever your shot makes impact. No-supply Battles are set up so you can't use any supply, including Mines.

If you're in a battle and are unlucky enough to run over an enemy mine that was Mortar-ed in there, you can't use a Repair Kit (remember, no supplies). So, you're an easy kill unless you have an attentive Isida on your team.

This is why, at least for No-supply Battles, Mortar should be reverted to Stock, or given an alternate function. This would make PRO Battles (especially Noise CTF) a lot more balanced.

I think it's best to make sure that alterations are disabled in that battle before joining it.

Mortar isn't the only alteration out there, you can't join a no-alt battle just because of one specific alteration. This requires a solution.

I remember once me and another isida (both healing nanobots) kept healing a mammy who went over mines and waited to be healed so he could go over the next one. We cleared a LOT  of mines that way.

No, mortar isn't the only alteration out there:

·Fire has 1 alt that's good and 2 alts that are OP.

·Freeze has one alt that's good, one alt that's bad, and one alt that's really good.

·Isida has 3 interesting alts that do something different.

·Hammer has one alt that's basically a downgrade, 3 alts that are an upgrade, and an alt that's OP.

·Twins have three alts that are better than the stock version.

·Ricochet has one alt that's an upgrade, and three alts that are interesting.

·Smoky has 3 good alts and 3 OP alts.

·Vulcan has one good alt and two that are practically upgrades.

·Striker has 2 good alts, one alt that's OP, and one alt that is interesting.

·Thunder has 3 good alts.

·Railgun has 2 good alts, 3 alts that are OP, and 2 alts that are upgrades.

·Magnum has 2 alts that are practically upgrades, and one alt that's really interesting.

·Shaft has 3 good alts and one alt that's an upgrade.

I'm curious to see what you classify as what...

I'm assuming you classify Incendiary Band as "OP"... but you need to get to overheat to make it work and then u are damaging yourself.

Which of the others is "an upgrade"?

SSR. Yes I know about the 15% damage nerf, but that's only a minus 103.5  DPS nerf. The barrel startup time is shaved in half and is closer to what stock had before the 3 second nerf. Also the time before OH is increased, meaning your chances of killing that enemy before you OH has been increased.

Now the only thing that's stopping many people from buying it is how expensive it is. It's not worth 200k crystals, maybe half that at most. I would say it's worth around 85k.

200k?   Did they increase the price?  I think paid 40k for it.  No way I paid close to 200k.

I don't really find it an upgrade.  Sure you may get to shoot longer, but there's very few situations/maps that it can occur with regularity.

It costs 140k crystals.

It sounds good on paper, and it is good in practice, but a personal problem I have with it when I play SSR is that I feel...trapped. It ultimately takes longer for me to kill a target with SSR than Stock while enjoying the comfort of faster engagements. And yes, the faster spin-up time is much appreciated, but I've gotten so accustomed to Stock's spin-up and down time that I feel "freed" when I revert back to Stock. Probably an unintentional psychological effect it has on me but I only feel better when I revert back to Stock.

I attribute that phenomenon to me having to attack with SSR despite its damage decrease. I usually go on the front lines with Stock and stay in the middle with SSR for more suppressive fire. But sometimes I have to play more aggressively with SSR for my team to win. I do better with Stock in 1 v 1s on the front lines because of the higher damage of Stock. If I were to attack with SSR, I'd prefer to stick with a teammate. SSR has the luxury of being able to shoot longer, but it can potentially suffer more damage from the enemies because it takes longer to kill them.

Not a chance I paid close to 140k for it - so I must have gotten on a 50% sale for 70k.  Even that seems high.

I rarely ever get to shoot at targets until OH because of maps - or even death.  I do fel the 15% damage nerf during battles so at best I think it's a wash and does what an alt is supposed to do.  Teh original 25% nerf was outrageous.

After all the tweaks... even with SSR - it still takes longer to spin than it did a year ago.  With the SSR 15% nerf, how does it compare to Vulcan damage from 1 year ago?

Can't believe Mortar only suffers a 15% damage nerf. For every miss (many on purpose) it gets to lay a mine that 95% of players are not protected against.

Spoiler

Spoiler

My bad about the price. I guess I confused with the prices of some of the other alterations. It's actually 140k. Still not really worth that much crystals. 85k is a much more reasonable price for it IMO.

Spoiler

I think that SSR would be pretty good, at least better than where stock Vulcan is now.

As for mortar, yeah for something that impacts the gameplay so heavily, it should be worth a lot more than just 60k. Like at least double that. Should also be unlocked as early as major General.

Well, mortar is the only alt that can place mines in a no-supply battle.

I like the way how you can run over mines when you are in that invincible state (semitransparent)

Alterations don't give you an advantage in battles, just tweaks your playing style. It indeed does lays mines but too decreases the maximum damage making it harder for the player to destroy other tankers especially when they have weak modification of turrets, gives a player an advantage as well as a disadvantage.

We all know in practice the first sentence is not true for all alterations.  They range from poor to OP.  Guess which end of spectrum is likely the most popular.

As for "decrease in max damage"... that's 15%.  WOW.  So if you hit... you lose 15%.  If you miss - you still may do splash damage AND lay a mine.  This alteration is designed for the player to purposely miss - which is IMO, pretty darn easy to do.

The positives of the alteration far outweigh the negatives.

Well and there is only one alteration that does this, that too some one from your team could be using it too, would have been a point if only your opponent team got to use to or something.

I believe the idea above was introduced because OP felt the alteration was breaking the rule of the Pro-Battle settings... "supplies off".

Having both sides break the "rule" does not exactly make it right.

One solution is that no alterations are allowed - even though (as far as I can tell) none of the other alts break the supply "rule".

Same goes for ODs.  Would have to turn those off since Dictator grants supplies (and ... drum roll...) lays a mine.

Yes.  Mortar.

To prevent Mortar from breaking the no supply rule we currently have to turn "OFF" all alterations.

discussing not allowing alterations that use "supplies".  Is that not what the Original Post is about?

well, i really wouldn't consider mortar breaking the so called 'supply rule' since tanki is quite strict when it comes to rule and i doubt they over looked the fact that the drone could be used in no supply mode, which i think in my opinion is totally fare since the player using this bought this for a certain amount and is now free to use to as he see's fit no supply format not being an exception.

That's fine, a good many of the alterations are considered OP anyway.

I like using smoky+incendiary.   I hate magnum mortars.    For Pro-battles it's a tough decision for the settings...
