How Tanki DIED and what should be done

I know a game that is 16 years old, and while it has a very small userbase(50 players a day) and only server and one developer its still running. So who knows when Tanki will end, it might end like Tanki X or it might be still alive even when there is 50 people logging in. I could go on for pages debating it. But in the end all games end eventually. I say enjoy it while it lasts.

What's the game's name?

For me, Tanki Online "died" when they released Challenges and nerfed the weekly mission regular container rewards, back in early 2019.

And then, the game was "revived" with two updates:

  • Adding stars to missions in October 2020
  • Releasing Shards, adding Shards to missions, and the daily free container in January 2021

And then the game died again, because of three, and soon to be, four updates:

  1. Giving all the turrets critical damage and removing the damage spreads. Also making critical damage bypass Protections and messing with numerous "perfect" alterations and giving some turrets absurd critical damages.
  2. Releasing a fourth protection module slot for 5,000 tankcoins. But the worse thing is, the 2nd and 3rd protection module slots are no longer free. You need to pay 50 and 500 tankcoins for them now. What's even sadder is that the crystal prices for the modules themselves aren't reduced at all or anything in order to "compensate" for the unfree slots.
  3. Nerfing supplies. This is good.......but...the developers just had to make the drones buff the supplies back to normal. Now if you don't have a drone, you will suffer. And unless you spend money on Speed-Ups, you will have to wait at least 200 days or over a year to upgrade the drone to a level where your supplies can actually do stuff.
  4. Removing the option to micro-upgrade equipment when you already reached the rank for the next modification.

I would replaced "died" with "went downhill" because the term "died" in literal meaning is there is no players online and Tanki's servers got shut down.

Yes <3

Don't forget to download Android Emulator to take advantage of watching ads for extra Shards (if you don't have Android device). From daily missions + once-per-hour ad video, I can get 3 containers in a day most of the time.

Something like this:

Stars for mission means that a F2P can complete a Challenge easier than it used to be (but still require some efforts).

I definitely said those before but I will say it again:

Point 1: I like the consistent damage, meaning no RNG will be involved if you want to score a kill. Critical damage... meant to solve the module vs turret dilemma except did not went well especially when Railgun's Crit Rate and Striker's Crit Damage are on steriods 24/7.

Point 2: I absolutely hated that too, even as a (light) buyer. I get that Alternativa wanted to solve the respective issue as I mentioned above, but this discourage module uses...

Point 3: Good for my Legend account but not for my F2P 1st Lt account. For the "200+ days", you can spend 1/2 of time if upgrading Brutus. In addition, I want to see the supply nerf gets completely reverted but with additional conditions:

  • Brutus regain its passive 10% damage/defence boost like before but also consumes no batteries like now. If have to consume batteries, make it consume 1 battery per 300 seconds (idea from yellowghetto BTW).
  • Other drones shall not receive passive damage/defence boost.
  • Nerf Lifeguard. Only heal when reach to critical HP (5-10%), not when receive fatal damage.
  • Get rid of Crisis's switching mode exchange of only consuming 1 additional manual supplies.

Point 4: Especially combined with boosted XP, it will be hard to keep up the pace of getting enouf crystals to upgrade.

Well then the drone is pretty much useless.  You are just giving it a free RK - at the expense of tons of crystals and not being able to equip a different drone.  No one would use the drone.

2012-2014 is when the game peaked. Back then, nobody bought crystals to make them better

OK, here I must confess I DID buy crystals in that period. But never afterwards. Why? Simple - lack of RESPECT to players.

Not gonna lie, tanki has been dead. Game doesn't deserve as much as its given for 5 years. If tanki does one day completely shut down i wont feel a bit of passion for it lmao

Main reason Tanki went downhill is because they don't listen to playerbase and do only what they want.

Fixed that for you. "Died" means that the game server got shut down and no one is playing.

What should be done is buyers stop spending money and let developers for once take consequences for only caring about money, listen to players or shut down game simple as that.

There are much better way to solve this, by giving F2P more rewards indirectly. We can implement the ad reward system that we have on Android to HTML5 client, meaning that you can watch ad videos as much as you want (that is completing a battle after one ad is done) for extra container shards. More containers -> more rewards for F2P.

Telling buyers, regardless light or hardcore counterparts not to spend their dollars is not the solution.

AP augments and its Immunity should get removed (even though I have Hornet AP Immunity myself) in exchange of module immune to Hornet OD.

Hey guys, look at it this way

Imagine tanki online as if it was a pipe

Said pipe has many, many MANY holes, leaking water all over the place.

Sometimes the water pressure risks of making the pipe explode, which can be prevented if the holes were patched.

The developers of the game are simply patching the pipe "just enough" for it to not explode, while continuing to create more and more leaks

leaks = bad updates

patches = good updates

water pressure = players

pipe explosion = game death

There's no point in "hoping this game will be revived" i hoped for 10 years now, and lately i've seen some of the worst updates ever being introduced, they are simply doing it on purpose, they want to see how far they can push their greediness before it will backfire hard.

I stils wonder how us players managed to ACCEPT the introduction of something as overpowered as Hopper, for how long are we going to let them make fun of us like this? How far will WE let them go? Sure the game is theirs, but us players are the life that keeps it alive, if we pull the plug, the game dies. Will the developers take this massive risk? Most of the playerbase already left, let's see how long it will take for the rest of the players to abandon this game. Aside the buyers that keep mindlessly dumping money into it.

Remember when they decided to remove ALL the alterations from the garage and shove them into containers? That was one of the points the pipe risked exploding due to the pressure of the water, that update received SO MUCH flame, that IT HAD TO be reverted, so that means players still have the power of hitting the devs with the karma bat.

Let's make it clear, i'm not inviting anyone into a revolt, i just want you guys to open your eyes and reflect carefully to how you see this game, what you think about it, and how YOU will react to the garbage the devs will shove in it in the future.

I find it hilarious how some of the people in here try to defend the game, hopelessly listing the "good things" while the list of trash this game has, is more than ten times big.

Another hint, stop adding p2w content if it only supports the p2w and not your actually f2p players because for about 20 updates its been all p2w and you couldn't do anything about it. Only a small portion of those updates supported f2p people. Even then by a small amount

It's getting more livelier now.

Like what Maf said, the developers can get money from players who watch Ads in the Mobile version. We can watch Ads to get Shards. Everyone benefits!

Let's see what they install next ...

Compos mentis you are not.

Explain how any player (APART from the P2W players) has benefited over these last couple of years. And by the way i'm going on about actual battles ok, not dumb shot effects are mind numbing ads are shiny skins, just so we are clear on the parameters.

Tanki has not died; in fact, I believe it is soon going to become popular again. There have been many positive updates since the last few years.

The juggernaut mode ( solo and team).

Overdrives make the game much more interesting. They require skills and are not micro upgradable, so buyers cannot use them like they use drones and supplies (like drug addicts). ODs make a normal MM match more thrilling and joyful.

Mobile version- it is the best version of the game for me. It is highly optimized and works with amazing smoothness on my smartphone. No errors too. And after a good fight in MM, I can avail a crystal reward by viewing an advertisement.

I also like how I can change my missions for free by just viewing ads. Also, the mobile version has a tutorial for the new player to learn tank controls. It is comprised of defeating bots and learning to use supply drops. This a great step for training a newbie. I believe that they will soon add a few training bots for new players in the html5 version as well.

I believe that devs would do an amazing job with the html5 version too. They better fix html5, coz they have to do it before flash dies this year.

Just recently, various supplies were made available at different ranks. This will ensure new players get to know their controls before joining the big leagues.

From the way I see it, tanki is gonna be resurrected this year. The devs have taken all the right steps for their mobile version, I am sure they will do so for the html5 version too.

10 days and we will pass a year from this reply.

Game is not popular yet, latest updates have been more negative than positive.

Overdrives not microupgradable? Crusader has entered the lobby. Of which damage can be alterered by drones/supplies quote 'like drug addicts'.

Mobile version, not my speciality.

Flash is dead, html getting some changes soon.

Tanki was not resurrected last year and doesn't look like there will be much of a change this year.

We F2P players are able to get Shards and more Containers.

The Bi-Monthly Challenges are do-able now.

We can get Stars from Daily/Weekly Missions.

We can now always, at least get 200 Tankoins per month just from Challenges.

We can get more Tankoins from all the Weekly Containers because they are now 8/8 Daily and 15/15. They used to be 10/10 and 20/20. Now it's easier to accomplish them.

I truly give up on all you mods, especially YOU.

I said ACTUAL BATTLES.

I SPECIFICALLY said ACTUAL BATTLES for a very good reason.

Tell you what mod, give it another go (last chance) and lets see what you come up with this time. Remember the parameters when replying this time ok, actual battles, not shards, containers, missions etc, etc.

Discussing about actual battles, P2W players are better than F2P.  F2P players have benefitted in battles by using the above pros mentioned, and given by the developers. Also, F2P players are still strong if you save up Crystals and Tankoins, and just focus on making your Perfect Tank.

This is what I'm doing at the moment. I'm at almost 9699 GS with the next 50% sales. I don't have the 4th Protection Module right now so I'll be at 9699 GS when done upgrading.

I saved Crystals only for use during Sales. Not for smaller 25% sales. This is what you should do as well.

Pray what have the devs given to F2P in comparison to the vast array of updates they have gave to players that can afford it.

And that takes how long to accomplish? P2W can manage this feat in about 10 minutes max with a credit card if they so wish.

So you saved crystals, and how long has that taken you, way longer than 10 minutes. And i have no need to save for anything, my garage is maxed out, not that it makes much difference with all the OP stuff in the game. I no longer play unless the daily missions yield very easy ones to achieve.

You my delusional friend are just the type of player the devs like, even more so if you actually spent any money.

They say ignorance is bliss, you have it in abundance.

Yeah, we have gotten good and bad updates. We just got to practice and use what we have to have fun!

Yup, this is 100% true! But it is also true that we are F2P players, right?

We have chosen to not buy anything in the game. We would like to play and earn the rewards for free, correct?

This makes us take a little longer to get the items we want.

But at least it's possible. The developers are still nice enough to give many ways of getting stronger, such as Tankoins from Challenges, Weekly Containers, Shards and more Containers, Stars from Missions, etc.

The big things we also have are nice Sales. Make sure to save up your Crystals and Tankoins for 50% sales.

You can get Supplies and Batteries half off! You can use your Drone against the Over-Powered P2W enemies.

You can get your favorite Hull Augment for 2495 Tankoins. It will take around 9 months for F2P players to save this amount of Tankoins.

Well, I played the game in 2014-15 and the game has certainly changed a lot.(Yeah I recovered it after over 5 years)

The entire look has changed--and not for the better--DID THEY REMOVE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE GOLD BOX??

I literally took a Gold Box today with my teammate busy sniping the enemy--nobody even tried to take the gold box--first time I did not take a screenshot bcoz it did not show for long--as if I had only caught a crystal box or something.

Also the random play sucks(also the new battle modes).

I used to play only on the Hill, Combe, Arena, Rio and smaller maps bcoz I was never good at long range battles--even with nearly 390k experience I am a sitting duck in these random games with my short range weapons--I literally have not explored more than half of the maps--and I don't think I will this random gameplay.

I would probably be levelling up after nearly 6 years...

The Gold Box notification and siren have not been removed. You probably missed it at the moment or the orange text quickly passed by because of other in-game notifications.

Small maps are no part of the MatchMaking-system, it is mostly medium-sized maps and recently introduced larger maps. Although many of these maps offer gameplay for all kinds of turrets, it is best to invest in a diversity of weapons so that you can adapt to most maps.

Speaking of which, it could also be the large size of the map that no one noticed the gold laying around.

The Text used to be HUGE--it could have been a player dropped gold box as well(Idk how that works tho).

Small maps have basically been killed off? The game looked much better before and also the forum looked much better when it was antique.

Goldboxes disrupt the flow of battles. I'm all for the notification being yet more discreet.
