Players quitting battles the MMS assigned them to in their chosen game mode, this is an annoyance both for their deserted teammates and for their replacements which are sent to a battle only in the later stages. It also compromises the optimal working of the MM battle system. Let us learn what share of players can take pride in being a finisher, and what share of players head for the exit when they find themselves out of their comfort zone.

I leave if the enemy team has an average GS that's significantly higher than my teams average GS.

I also leave if my team is about to be spawn camped.

And lastly, I leave if I feel like the battle I'm in isn't contributing much to my daily mission progress.

I leave a match if I am the only one that's carrying the team and if my team are complete bots that have no idea what the objective is (70% of the time)

Whenever the battle starts unfairly - mults, unequal # of players, Team capping flags before opposition loaded.

When placed into a battle that is 1/2 over.

Oh... and when there's 4 or 5 murder-hornets on enemy team.

I quit every time I get onto Archipelago and Stadium. Sometimes massacre.

I quit if i get the blue team on ASL and i need to capture flags.

I quit if Maf is in the opposite team.

There are different reasons I'd leave a MM battle.

In summary:

  • My mood at the time
  • The account that I'm playing on (differing equipment between them)
  • The game mode I'm placed in
  • The map I'm placed in
  • The difference between my teammates and enemies
  • The flow of the battle
  • Enemy team has an Electromagnetic Salvo Gauss

Those above are controllable situations. There are uncontrollable ones such as me needing to do something away from the game that will take more than 2 minute and me lagging out and not being able to get back in in time.

Mood: Sometimes I just don't want to play for long and would rather be doing something non-Tanki related, but gotta do those missions because of how valuable containers are to those who can't spend real money. If I enter the battle and see one of the other 3 listed happening then there is a higher chance I'd leave the battle.

Differing Accounts: Each of my accounts specialise in a certain combination of a turret and hull, or maybe two turrets with one hull, or one turret with two hulls. So being a melee turret and getting placed in a map like Highways or Stadium won't sit well for me. The map requirements are different for each account and I have differing tolerance levels for each depending on the turret I use.

Map and Game Mode: I like being in some modes and dislike being in others. One in particular I dislike is Assault. If I queue for Quick Battle and get put in Assault while having no relevant missions (I always change Assault missions but end up getting another one anyway and wasting the free change), I leave immediately. At the very least it is at the very start of the battle, before I spawn.

This is further amplified depending on the map I'm placed on. I can get a bad map (imo) for my favourite game mode and leave (also taking into account my account's equipment). Unless I have a mission and/or an account is comfortable playing there, I leave. Examples are:

Difference between teammates and enemies/Flow of the battle: Let's say the map passes all of the previous requirements. I'm good to go. Next step, I look at my teammates' equipment and whatever enemy is nearby at the start of the battle. Two of my accounts use Support Nanobots Isida, whose success depends almost entirely on its teammates. If your teammates aren't good, chances are you'll do badly. I'm looking at my teammates and seeing 4 undergraded light hulls. Some of them aren't moving their turrets. Their protections don't help them from getting one-shotted. I can't get proper score if my allies are being one-shotted. They have combinations of augmented turrets and hulls which generally don't go well together and has more flaws than other combos. These people can't protect me. But that's ok for now, let's take a look at the enem...5 powerful players able to one-shot half of my team if they so choose. If not that, then their equipment choices are far, far, far better than my team's equipment choices.

At that point, I know it makes no sense staying in that battle. I'm gonna get steamrolled and there is nothing I can do to defend myself because my allies die too quickly and my damage is halved. I tickle anyone who has protection against me.

Now, let's say the battle is more or less calm for the first minute or two, and then the enemy team initiates a push that is seemingly defendable but then starts spawnkilling us. I'm not gonna sit there getting spawnkilled for 4 minutes. I will leave. If the battle is going in a way where it is enjoyable (for whatever reason) despite me having a subpar score, then I'll stay. Sometimes the flow of the battle is heated with both sides giving their all, or on side having the advantage but their offences are getting defended at the last second. There, I would stay.

Enemy Electromagnetic Salvo Gauss: Most often, if at the beginning of the battle I notice the enemy team has an EMP Gauss, I leave. Simple as that. That Augment is too cancerous. If I ABSOLUTELY have to stay in that battle for a mission, then I'll stay. But I just can't with these EMP Gausses. They take too much of a toll on me.

As bad as Hornet Vulcan is to fight against at the moment, these don't usually make me leave battles. I just tough it out for the starts. Stars. Whenever the Lockdown events and Discount Weekends with increased battle funds finished and it went back to normal, I kept noticing how poor the MM rewards are without premium. So much effort exerted into that battle just for 200 crystals. Stars give me something to aim for. I've already been conditioned to play for these Challenge rewards, because without them, I don't have much motivation to do battles other than missions.

Even as someone who takes pride in adapting to whatever situation, overcome and finish, I do usually quit immediately when I see this aberration of a map, too.

So do I and probably everyone else. But why on earth do you use this noob "Quick Battle" button at all instead of just choosing the mode you want to play? I think I never used this "Quick Battle" button ever, for exactly this reason. When I play in a group and the host uses this button (which has some stretch of justification for groups, because waiting time is much longer than for single players), it was the last time I accepted a group invitation from that person. If I had a say in Tanki development, the abolishment of this button would be the first thing I would do.

I get your point, I consider the use of an EMP augment for Gauss, this annoying ego-boost for underperformers, the second acceptable reason (next to being placed on the Archipelago map) for myself to quit a battle. Though I do always first check the opportunity to harshly punish and humiliate the person using that aberration of a weapon, and more often than not there is such opportunity. Just yesterday in an SGE battle, some underperformer had this toy mounted on a Titan, and I went to blow him up with my Hornet-Gauss-Driver time and again. After some minutes, it was him who left.

The third and last legitimate reason to quit a battle, in my opinion, is being sent to a battle in the late stages and getting destroyed by a Hornet on overdrive during spawn protection three times in a row. Not once, not twice, but three times in a row. That in my view is sufficient indication that the cause is lost.

I don't like to play in ASL or TDM so I quit them upon entry, unless I have to for my missions. Other than that, I make a point to stay in the battle no matter what.

Even when my team is woefully underpowered, I see it as a challenge to see how much I can do in those conditions. In my eyes the only real cost of being in a losing battle is the d/l it gives you, but that's not too important to me since it doesn't really mean anything. I think players often leave a challenging battle too quickly (it's too common to see one player or more quit as soon as one single enemy goal/flag is made when everything can still change). Of course it's frustrating to lose, but I find rewarding when we manage to win against a stronger team.

I rarely quit when playing normally, but sometimes quit a lot when going for a specific strategy, like a specific team in ASL (we really need two separate MM buttons for it btw), or a specific type of map. Yesterday I had to quit 10 ASL games in a row because I was being put into blue team ever time and I wanted to try red. And in case of the recent gold catching challenge, I would quit every game that had less than 6:20 left on the timer, because I couldn't risk other players having overdrives ready when I was dropping a gold. But I'd play normally after I caught one.

To me it's just a quick 3/6 stars because the battle ends fast and I'm in first place ?

If I get first place with a decent score, I'd rather stay than quit since the gap between the losing and winning teams is very little anyway.

Or just remove it from MM. It's not a suitable game mode anyway. And if it's removed, that'll be one less game mode that's hogging all the players, making loading times faster and possibly more balanced battles.

What's with you and your determination to get game modes removed from MM? ?

ASL is a fun mode and I quite like it. I also like most of the other ones, and play them all interchangeably from day to day. All it needs right now is a slightly more convenient way to get into the battles, i.e. seeing the map, team and game mode you will be put in before you load into the battle.

I very much relate to this.

Remember when ASL used to be just an event mode that happened on special occasions? And on Yorkshire map. Honestly, that map is the only one that can make ASL fun for both teams.

Otherwise, it's only fun if you're on the attacking team. And let's be honest siege, ASL, and rugby are just knockoff versions of CP and CTF only real difference is that your team is forced into a moshpit to win the battle which is bland and distasteful.

I'm quitting lots of battles for various reasons;

-Maps I don't like (I refuse to play Stadium).

-If I enter a battle when the score is already 5-45 (CP), or 0-4 (CTF) or something like that.

-If there's no fun in the battle (the other team is dominating)

-If I want to play on the other side (ASL)

-If MM puts me back in a battle I just left (very annoying.....)

This is part of the reason why the rank-brackets are so wide and why we can have longer loading times.

There are too many battle-modes splitting up the decreasing numbers of players.

TO should take 3 of the modes (Siege, ASL, Rugby) and alternate ONE of them into MM for a 2 or 3 week period.  Or just move them all to Pro-battles.

I quit when I see -

  • Huge average GS gap (coloured columns on tab) between teams
  • 2 - 3 inactive players on my team.
  • More than 2 leaving my team at the start ... sort of decisive

Issues snowball.

I almost never quit a battle. I'm a pretty decent player, and if my team stinks (so many players have no idea how to play effectively) that just makes it incredibly easy to get first place on my team. That's 3 (6) stars to me and a substantial chunk of the way to a tier reward worth probably thousands of crystals. So win-win. ?

Also, I like being the one player that gives the dominating team a hard time. I've had a few OP kit buyers on the opposite team friend me after a battle because I was clearly the only one who frustrated their waltz through my teammates.

Occasionally I'll leave a battle if I get put in one with less than three minutes left. That's unacceptable.
