Remove TJR

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

TJR is a somewhat popular format... for people who can load in pretty quickly and become their team's juggernaut right off the bat, usually to receive the following benefits: not having to use their own supplies, a slew of kills for no/few deaths, easy 6 stars, and fast and easy experience with an OP combination without having to constantly upgrade and update their equipment for proper battle conditions.

However, this causes problems for other players in the game:

  • Players who are not chosen as juggernaut (but wanted to be) tend to leave the battle and find a battle to join as Juggernaut
  • Games tend to be very unbalanced due to the number of people leaving the battle due to a lack of teammates.
  • Juggernaut players also tend to be extremely skilled, so other players rarely have a chance to be the juggernaut (as the first juggernaut usually lasts the full seven minutes)

For most players, this is quite frustrating when you're just playing for some stars, and then you just happen to get dropped off in a 4v7 Juggernaut battle, get creamed, and feel like quitting the game. It simply isn't any fun to play TJR anymore when two people are just dominating just because they loaded in fastest.

So, solutions. Either a. randomise how a JGR is picked or b. just remove it altogether.

Thanks for listening; have a nice day.

Another thing is that when a juggernaut dies, the one who becomes juggernaut is the first person to respawn, so if you're doing well in a match with a regular combo you'll never get it. It should be a random person, and when they respawn, they become juggernaut.

A problem with this is that the more time there is not a Juggernaut on the team, the more time the enemy Juggernaut and its minions have to charge their Overdrives. This leaves the Jugg-less team at a disadvantage.

The solo juggernaut system would be better. Give a 2 second warning and self destruct a random player(or a player chosen by some better metric). And respawn them as juggernaut.

Not remove it, but fix this first arrived first served Juggernaut rule. That is the thing to do.

Regarding your 3 other points, they are trivial.

If players leave, that is their problem, there is only one jug and seven minions. Likelihood to become one is low (max is 7 opportunities), so mindset should not focus only on becoming the Juggernaut. I trust that with time, these people will give up the JGR mode all together, good riddance I must say.

If the Juggernaut is skilled (based on your third point) then unbalances of player is not relevant. Unbalance is also due to lower player pool base, better to remove CP and Siege battle modes (at least one) to get more player per remaining mode.

If players are skilled then they deserve to be the Juggernaut as it will help their team to win, again why do you play this mode with only desire to be the jug? like in CTF, sometime you/your team cap zero flag. It also fall on the other team to take it down. So blame the other team too that is not doing enough to win.

I actually like TJR, it is one of the few game modes that actually has potential to be a fun game mode.

Sadly it's losing players simply because of the dwindling playerbase and probably other factors.

It's kind of balanced by not having a JUG the other team can kill - no?

You win the game by killing JUGS - hard to score when there's no JUG on the map...

(still don't agree with the suggestion though)

Yes there are positives and negatives to having no Juggernaut on the team.

It's also hard to score when you have no big hunk of metal protecting you by massively weakening or killing enemies you encounter on the way to assassinate the enemy Juggernaut. None of that means the enemies are more or less free to roam your base without as many consequences as there should be (because you don't have a Juggernaut fending them off).

If I were doing well in the battle as a minion, I would hate to be self-destructed on my way or about to kill the enemy Juggernaut because the system chose me by random. Worse if it's a Viking who spent half the game trying to get its OD and use it at the right time only for it to self-destruct, become the Juggernaut and then when it dies, it will lose all of its OD charge that it worked to to get.
