Ideas for Hulls and Overdrives!

 Share

Recommended Posts

Idea:

Add the ability for tanks to damage enemy tanks by running over them. (Crushing Damage)

How it could work:

A change is made so that tanks drive over rather than bumps into other tanks when both are on level ground.

A hierarchy among the hulls determines which can run over or be run over by which. All medium hulls can run over all light hulls, and a hierarchy amongst the medium hulls determines which can run over which. Maybe the low silhouette Viking can't run over any medium hull, while the tallest of them Dictator can't be run over by any medium hull. Weight difference determines damage, so a medium hull running over a medium hull won't do as much damage as if it runs over a light hull. Crushing damage increases exponentially with higher weight, so damage recieved by a medium hull that's run over by a heavy hull is more severe than a light hull being run over by a medium hull.

The relatively weak damage done by medium hulls when they run over light hulls, and heavy hulls extreme crushing power being given less opportunity by their slower speed, would hopefully make it somewhat balanced before finer adjustments....

Flying hulls could perhaps do something different when they run over tanks, since they naturally doesn't crush them - adding to their uniqueness.

Hmm, very interesting concept, although it would put the respective hulls at a huge disadvantage over their "bigger" counterparts and you would have to find a way to compensate for that.

Do you think the heavy hulls slower speed could be enough to balance it?

I think it's hard to argue that, because hulls are supposed to be balanced already, with the speed and hp they have.

I'm sure it would be possible to find a way, just saying it should be well thought through, because it would mean a significant change in gameplay.

If a tank is destroyed in the middle of activation, it will get some OD charge back. However, if it is stunned in the middle of activation, the charge goes to 0. The Stun effect from turret augments should interact with ODs the same way death does; it's unfair to lose all of your charge just because a Stun rail got a lucky critical shot or a Stun Striker focused on you during activation. In such situations, being one-shotted would be better since you at least get some charge back from dying...

Right now the enemy's Wasp bomb has two indicators, Red and Green.

Red means you are dead, Green means you are safe. Or at least this was the case before the update which reworked Wasp's OD.

Now, I often see the green indicator but I still get all the negative effects, even though I am not killed by the explosion itself.

This makes no sense and it renders impossible to understand just how far you need to drive away from the Bomb.

So, I suggest a very simple solution:

Red Indicator: means you are gonna die by the explosion itself

Yellow Indicator: means you will survive the explosion but you are still gonna suffer by the negative status effects from the OD

Green Indicator: means you are safe

Agreed, happens a lot with my Viking Overdrive, a single stun rail or stun striker and all goes to waste,,,,,,,,

It would be nice idea to have a mode of attacking strategy to titan overdrive as well, When an opposite team player enter the overdrive dome,  will slowly  loose health

...As many pointed out, Titan's dome is already a pain in that you either can't do anything about it, or you're absolutely smoking whoever's trying to hide under it. This change would just make it even less welcome to those who belong to the former category.

This idea might be a little out there... ?

A heavy hull that medium and light tanks can drive onto and be protected by its health, and they become a sort of two turreted tank. Playing togheter in this way makes for a very cooperative experience. Depending on the riding tank's OD and turret there's LOTS of different (cooperative) playstyles for the duo. Just like experimenting with different turret and hull combos, players can experiment with different combos for this aswell.

The heavy hull's OD is something team-oriented, but maybe not very strong since it will often have a riding tank's OD too.

I don't think this would be OP since it's not that different from hiding behind a heavy tank already.

The electric jolts from Hunter's overdrive and Tesla's lightning should have an effect for teammates for example: repair, energy bar refill or temporary speed boost.
It seems like such an effect on allied tanks should exist from the electric jolts as electricity should definitely have an effect on all vehicles, a positive effect for teammates and negative for enemies.
Although repair function would contradict the sole existence of Isida, it seems like a logical induction. Otherwise alternative features could be considered
Thoughts??

My first reaction seeing this was something along the lines: ´´Kill it ´fore it lays eggs´´ ? . But on a serious note, I have seen such concept working in different games and I would definitely love to try it when teaming up with a friend.

I think I suggested this exact thing back in like 2012

My own idea was just a platform tank that fits two light hulls on it and drives them to the enemy base. Transporter dies and the light hulls jump out. In hindsight the idea was pretty dumb, seeing as no one would wanna play as a taxi ?

Anyway, this seems like a rather complex idea. Pretty cool, but I'd rather just work together with my team and everyone having their own tank.

I don't think this idea is the same as your Taxi ? (if you meant the taxi wouldn't even have it's own turret), but I agree it sounds more like a fever dream type of idea, rather than something that would actually get implemented.

This kind of two-player configuration is usually very frustrating for the "rider". The combination of your partner not going where you want him to go and constantly knocking your aim off with unexpected turns would be difficult to deal with. It only really works with well-coordinated friends in a call, which is a very niche audience.

Some serious combo abuuz right there ? .

It would be even cooler if you allow heavy tanks to mount that thing too so that you can create something like this
