Analyzed Protection Modules

I was curious which protection was used the most so I analyzed in total of 680 modules of players in MM battles. This is the result. (MM with rank legend account)

Railgun without surprise is the most used module. Close second is thunder. Hope this chart is also helpful for y'all.

That's a really cool experiment you did there...

It would be even more credible if you increase the number of analyzed modules.

Great work!

And thanks!

Thank you very much, will do more when I do this again but for turrets :)

Great!

no wonder that first is Railgun. also second is Thunder.

But I thought Gauss and Smoky would to be in top 6 at least.

And surprisingly I never thought Mines is just 1%.. Btw, if you just join matches and leave to gather data. Don't you entered the same battle double times or triple with wrong??

I made sure that didn't happen.

Really good idea. I think module use is more based upon popularity of turret than how powerful. Hence Rail, Thunder, Fire, and Rico are high.

I tend to do the opposite in battle, changing to whatever I view as the biggest threat, but many times it is those 4 that I use

Thanks. Rico protection is unsurprisingly high, I see more and more Rico turret.

I might get a new Rico module this weekend / black friday, seeing more Ricos too, often with Plasma-torch

I expected Gauss to be more popular

After Shaft's changes past months, I expected the Eagle-module to be more popular. From own observations, I regularly encounter enemies with protections against Shaft. I am not complaining though, I guess I can still stick with my trustworthy Shaft for the time being.

Wow! Interesting results! I too had thought that owl module would be in top 3. By the way, did you collect the data from the players' ratings pages? Another player - DaringDeer - does similar kinds of experiments too.

I joined mm battles and took a ss of the player list at the start of the battle. And counted the modules :)

@Positive Thanks. This is very helpful and took a lot of effort. My shortcut for equipment tips is to use the profile of boris4311 since he is playing like 24x7 and is active and ranked in the top 50.

On one hand I do understand why so many players use Railgun protection but on the other hand Railgun is unplayable in MM..

btw, I alerted you before a while about your horrible protections use, but so far, you haven't changed? lol.. but for sure you as a high rank player, you know what you use and better for your strategy

There's a good reason for that, and it's not popularity of the turret. It's the augments.

How does a turret that can't twoshot a light hull go from one that can oneshot heavies? That can oneshot a light hull instantly and then reload faster than a Thunder? LCR and Scout, of course. These are the two augments that plague Tanki with its existence, and just look at the sheer amount of them. It's honestly quite sad that a turret earns such a bad reputation because of these OP augments.

Naturally, people like me got tired of the LCR/Scout users, and got ourselves Railgun protection because we were sick of getting demolished by overpowered stuff, over and over and over again. Is this fair to the small subset of Railgun players, like me, who use Round Stabilization? No, not at all.

I assure you, if there was a nerf to these augments, the amount of Railgun protections would go down drastically. It's just a shame that Railgun's reputation has to be stained in this way.

Lets also not dismiss that a few of the 'spender community' XP players, use it with BOOSTER DRONE, so having 50% module and DA can at least help a bit against these players.

The above shows that railgun is still a common turret. He hasn't tracked all people, but a fair 'grinders' of the game, and railgun hits north in both usage and module usage. Don't hate module users for having to use railgun modules because the way that people used railgun, especially when majority of them camp behind walls, it is fundamentally annoying. It also has a fair damage potential, especially since it's the only turret that pierces (up to 100% penetration), being accidentally hit through people isn't fun either, splash from other turrets is more endurable.

If it was as unplayable as you suggest, there would be fewer of them in battles.

Now that hornet has been (personally) nerfed there are not quite as many.  But some have just switched hulls.  See more on Vikings now.

In certain maps, a railgun can still be effective in TDM and juggernaut. Any other modes, I do a count of how many on my side and leave if there are more than 2. This goes for shafts also.

One good thing about the armor-piercing status effect is that it allows Railguns to actually do something in MM battles now.

Also, interestingly, I like how my Smoky does like 500 damage per shot, while my Railgun only does around 300-700 per shot cause everyone uses Railgun Modules and Double Armor constantly. (Both are MK7 by the way).
