It's as the name suggests, when we come across duplicate topics and such, we simply merge them with the existing one. Thus; all the posts of the duplicate topic goes into the existing one.

Basically the Merge tag means that your idea is going to be merged with another topic which already had the same/similar idea and was posted earlier. Your idea will remain as a topic for a few days and then later get merged with an already existing topic. 

Also, no need to call yourself a noob ! The Forum is a bit confusing at first and all of us have gone through (or are going through) this phase. It is natural to have doubts and it's a good thing that you're asking for help! Our excellent Forum Moderators team (and sometimes other Helpers) is always there to help!

All of the above answers are wrong

If your topic labelled with "Merge" that means your idea is a similar to an idea   OR   it considered as an idea who fit in a category topics, like ideas for interface or ideas for MatchMaking.  And your topic will be merged in a few days.

So it's not necessary that your idea is repeated or have suggested before as they assume above.
