I have a friend who farmed literally a thousand containers in the past 3 months mainly from shards. If we assume that 800 of those were exclusively from shards, that's 8000 ads watched.

Hello?! 1,000 Containers without paying a dollar?! How in the actual is that possible?

"TO Mobile also offers rewards for watching ads. You can get shards, an increased battle reward, change your Daily Missions, and even speed up Micro-upgrades for free just by watching ads. Whenever you can watch an ad to get a reward, a little "play" icon ► will be displayed next to a picture/description of the reward."

I was thinking whether you can login to your usual account on the mobile app via an Android emulator on desktop.

I wonder if it's possible to do that though.

So, even with much lower player base, there is much more stuff to spend on and it might be possible that many F2P players turned to at least a small time buyers (like buying BP here and there or occasionally some UC or Tankoins) simply to stay competitive or to get their hands on very exclusive equipment so that they have new impulses to continue playing their favorite game. When you spend literally years in one game, it can be quite hard to put it aside, and leave those hours of playing behind, so eventually many will crack and spend the money to continue.

The game is so bad now I've stopped playing cold-turkey.  I won't be surprised if others follow suit.

And with recent changes to the game, I strongly doubt they will be able to retain new players, who will be at a huge disadvantage.

These P2W cash-grabs might generate income in short-term.  But they are doing this while sacrificing long-term prospects.

Wiki stated that you can earn up to 1 container a day by watching ad. But how in the actual someone can watch 8,000 ads just in 3 months?

Oh w8, 8k ads = 80 containers.

Watching Ads

Mobile players can watch an ad to earn 10 Shards icon.png.
  • After watching an ad, a player must wait for an hour to watch another. If at the end of the hour it doesn't work, try restarting the app or checking your internet connection.
  • Players can watch up to 10 ads per day, earning up to one additional container.

If these figures are accurate, would be nice to see tanki pump some money back into their own advertisement and get some fresh blood in the game.

New players might start the game.

But after a 2 or 3 weeks of rapid advancement and then playing veterans with much better equipment (including things that used to be default like 3 module slots) I can honestly see them quitting the game in frustration.

TO has set new players up to fail in order to make the buyers happier.  Short-term gains for long-term pains.

I created a new account a couple of months ago to see how many crystals and supplies a casual player might earn from Shard containers; it's at 42,000 XP after 7.5 hours

My strategy for that account is making sure I have at least one combination of equipment fully upgraded before I rank up, so my Mk 2/10 Hornet and my MK 2/10 Shaft will be good until I get to WO2 while I fully upgrade some of the Mk3 equipment I can buy now, which will take over at WO2 while I start upgrading something else (if not Hornet and Shaft)

But that requires a lot of patience and a bit of luck with containers, and I'm often in battles with players at my rank that have less than 1000 GS, sometimes a lot less

I could make it even harder for them by using supplies (have Brutus at 7/20 already), but I'm not doing that because I don't need to

I think a lot of them are going to quit

Watching a few thousand ads (i.e. also finishing thousands of battles on mobile) and doing missions ?‍♂️

Does this friend of yours even give some rest to his/her eyes? Even so it is a waay too big number. Are you sure?

Say he/she watched 2000 ads, he/she'd get 20,000 shards and he/she'd get only 200 containers from them. ?‍♂️

Yeah - you are not a "new" player.  Just a new account.

You have many advantages over players who have never played before.  Heck, you know how to turn your turret at recruit.

I've seen it. I created an alt and seen that players at those ranks actually do not turn their turrets. That way I always had an advantage. Second issue is that people at those ranks actually are poor at activating supplies at the right time. They use supplies randomly, I guess.

OMG, that's such a wasting of time. 8,000 x 30s per-ad mean 240,000s, or 67 hour. 67hr out of the gameplay is such a disgusting thing. Even if this guarantee me 1000 container I wont do it.

"Players can watch up to 10 ads per day, earning up to one additional container"

One bonus container per day = 90 free containers from ads.  And some from just logging in.

Missions don't make up the difference to get 1000 containers in 3 months.

How many bonus containers does doing battles on mobile give in addition to daily/weekly missions?

It is possible that revenue from tanki has fallen and revenue for Alternativa has increased from other revenue sources.

I think they are an IT company and tanki online is one of their products.

They might be doing other stuff (like maintaining websites for local Russian businesses, offering online payment gateways, selling some retail software etc.)

I doubt that this game is their major source of revenue. Especially with the state that the matchmaking system is in. Pay2win games don't last long, and lose players very quickly. (as tanki has done, since it started rolling out hardcore pay2win features).

On Twitch, games like Chess have 20k+ and often 50k+ viewers at any time of the day.

Fortnite has like 100k+ viewers.

Tanki has 0 viewers on Twitch. LOL. It doesn't get much interest from places other than Russia. And this is despite the sudden boom in the past year in online activity due to the pandemic.

Every finished battle = 10 shards (after watching ads). To get one container you have to finish 10 battles on TO mobile. So that's one container for every ≈30-80 minutes of gameplay. The amount of containers is unlimited.

AlternativaPlatform used to be a software development studio, and the early prototype of Tanki was just a technology showcase to demonstrate how Flash can be used for in-browser 3D gaming. But when Tanki became massively popular, they rebranded into AlternativaGames and started developing other games, but Tanki Online is definitely their flagship project even now.

I don't think they have significant revenue coming in from other sources.

The initial release of the shard containers allowed mobile players to watch an ad every 7 minutes. That lasted for a while (longer than I expected tbh).
