Self damage penalty for healing turrets should be reworked

We all know that long ago the developers made so that if a tank inflicts self damage, Isidas won't get any scores for healing the target.

While this seems to work perfectly fine for turrets like Twins, Striker/Terminator, Thunder, Hammer, Magnum, Gauss (Smoky with explosive rounds?) and Ricochet, there are some issues with one specific turret i'm going to highlight.

I'm obviously talking about Vulcan.

A lot of players in fact prefer to use it with Incendiary Band, or they will simply equip another protection augment rather than heat immunity in certain situations.

The problem here is that, this turret deals itself self damage for the majority of the time, therefore, healing a burning Vulcan, often leads to 0 score being granted to the healer. I'm not sure if this also happens for Shaft's healing augment, but if it does, it should also be taken into consideration.

While i believe it is fair to not give scores for healing self-damage inflicted for most of the turrets, i think Vulcan should be an exception.

But i would still want to prevent any abuse from happening, so i'm suggesting a rework for the self damage penalty.

Basically a formula that in the code would work like this:

-If the target is self damaging = grant 0 scores to the healer

-If the target is self damaging and is taking damage from enemies/dealing damage to enemies = grant scores to the healer no matter what.

A timer could also be added where, after a fight, the target will still grant scores for like 10 seconds*  before it gets considered as abuse and after that it will no longer grant scores to the healer. The timer resets if the target starts taking damage from enemies/dealing damage to enemies once again. *(there should be no reason for a Vulcan to keep firing after a fight, therefore those 10 seconds are for when it's cooling down)

Side note: this could also be applied to all the other self-damaging turrets, since a lot of tankers will simply try to get as close as possible to make them inflict self-damage to their enemies. (the timer i talked about above can be excluded from all the other turrets except Vulcan)

Incendiary Band was meant to have self-damage while also igniting the enemy. An Isida coming in between that shatters the purpose of that limitation. A relatively easy way to circumvent that limitation, especially since the IB change last year that made it easier to use, is to have an Incendiary turret or augment ignite you and you continue applying that ignition to yourself. It is counted as the enemy's ignition and not your own.

This already happens in-game. You don't gain score for self-damage but you gain score for damage inflicted by the enemy. If you were at half HP, with 20% of your HP being taken by self-damage and 30% being taken by damage inflicted by the enemy, you will gain score for the 30% HP lost to enemy damage.

So in my view, this topic is asking for Isida to be able to gain score from self-damage on a Vulcan.

Practically speaking , nobody using isida refuses to heal if a tank is self damaging itself. I am myself an isida user and I heal irrespective of type of damage dealt. I think points should be given universally for healing, in mm sometimes you have to take self damage to stop a capture of flag or a touchdown .

well yes, Isida and anything else that heals, though i'm not sure how the self damage scoring system works when enemies are damaging the target, sometimes i just got no scores at all for healing a teammate during a fight. That's why i made the topic.

Then again i did mention at the beginning that it was for Vulcan specifically, a rework wouldn't hurt.

And as i said in the end, it could also be applied to all the self-damaging turrets.

i never said someone refuses to heal a self-damaging target, i just pointed out that the healer isn't rewarded properly for healing that target.

Ya I agree with your point.

Valid

We did a bit of testing with @Spy and @StealthMasterX and confirmed that currently you do not get any points for healing damage dealt by enemy while the ally you are healing is self-overheating.
