Battles ending early?

I've been in some battles that have ended when there were still 17 secs on the clock, while others end with 4-5 seconds left on the clock. (Objective limit like 50 CP or 7 flags hasn't been reached)

I'm curious, what exactly determines when a battle will end?

Maf briefly explained this a while back for PC but on mobile it's easier to make happen. After it starts loading into a battle, if you go back to the home screen or go to another app, it'll play in the background but whenever you get back, it will show the time that you would have loaded the map despite minutes of gameplay already happening. You'd see that the battle ends with almost 2 minutes on the clock remaining. It can happen for a few seconds or 2 minutes.

I feel like it was someone else, because this is complete news to me. I always assumed that timer de-sync was just because of lag, but I've never had it go as much as 17 seconds. 5 seconds at most, and haven't had it at all for a while.

Happened to me a couple days back. I was shocked as well.

So it's related to your own device and internet connection in a way? The server always ends the game at close to 0 seconds?
