Many years ago there was a protection added to drop boxes that they weren't able to be taken too high in the air to protect against hackers. Now with the addition of hulls like hopper and drones like crisis that allow your tanks to reach much higher heights, it's not meaningful to have those drop box protections. 

Here's an incident that occurred that is one of many examples of drop box protection which as game has changed, should be removed.

You can catch drop boxes including Gold Boxes as soon as they appear on the map, high in midair.

This is probably some bug or issue which made you phase through the gold box.

With the introduction of flying-monkeys, tanki has changed many of its principles, like removing the auto-kill zones for their spoiled hopper and height and speed limits. What do you want more?
