Guide [Issue 31] Takeovers
Pathfinder replied to Pathfinder in [Issue 31] Takeovers Newspaper Archive
We've all been there. A battle almost won, secure, you think, just when that's cruelly snatched from you by a suddenly strong enemy team that's gunning your own players down without mercy. It's difficult when one steals away your crystals that you have been working hard towards. But at the same time, you don't need to be sitting on that end of the situation all the time. Today, we shall discuss the other side - how to do the raiding. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Preparation In any team game you cannot expect to win alone. The same applies to Tanki, and it doesn't matter how good a player is, if that player does not have a good team to play with, the game is still likely to go to the other team. Takeovers rely on teamwork too. Often, takeovers are met with fierce resistance - the enemy team will be strong to have achieved that advantage already, and they also most likely won't give it up easily. So, the first step to taking over is to make a good takeover team. A team that is strong in terms of equipment and upgrades, a team that has plenty of supplies to give as big an advantage as possible, and a team that is well coordinated, ideally through some sort of communication like Skype. This allows the team to play together, rather than as individuals. Choosing a game Takeovers are often very costly operations, and can cost the players many supplies, so it is worth picking your game very carefully. There are many factors to consider, including: Likely fund - you want maximum reward. Try picking a game where the players have already built up a sizable score, and the battle has been going on for some time. Not only will this mean that you will get more out of it when it finishes, but it also means that the enemies have more to lose if they leave, and are less inclined to do so, which would render the game dead. No one likes to leave a high fund game where they have already achieved a few hundred or thousand points in score! Number of players - the more the number of players, the more potential your team can beat theirs by. If your team is coordinated, and the enemy is not, having more players on each team will amplify this advantage, and give you a better chance of winning. Furthermore, if your takeover team intends on drugging, it is less likely that the enemies will all drug back in a larger game, since they have more players. This is likely to give your team a larger drug advantage. Rank requirements - ideally you want to find a game where your ranks are the highest there. This ensures that you will have the best equipment available at your rank, and that the enemies won't suddenly get their own stronger players to take you on. Drugs - if you intend on taking over with maximum effect, you will want to be drugging, and so you will want drugs on. Try not to join a PRO unlimited drugs game. In this case, most players who join will be joining with the intention of drugging, and so you will likely face an enemy team of druggers too. Try joining just a normal game. Time and score situation - you need to make sure your team has a safe chance of being able to takeover the game. There's no point in joining a game with 5 minutes left with the hope of capturing another 30 flags! Even if there is no time limit, you need to check the score situation, and this is also affected by the type of battle. CTF games and CP illustrates my point perfectly. Even if the enemy is just a few flags from winning, your team will still stand a reasonable chance if you make sure that you have a good defence. You can make sure the enemies capture no flags whatsoever. It is much harder however, to completely suppress the enemy from gaining points in CP, especially if there are multiple capture points around. The same is true for TDM - it is hard to completely kill of the enemy and prevent them from increasing their score at all. If the enemies are very close to winning the game already, the game may be out of reach to takeover. Unity It is impossible for a single player to take charge of all the many roles there are in a team, simply because one combination that is suitable for one role is unlikely to be good in another. So, you should aim to divide the roles, each player dedicated to one particular part of the team. For a fuller insight into each of the team game modes, don't forget to check out the newspaper archive for the gameplay series. In TDM, where you want to recover from a deficit, you want to minimise deaths as well as kill the enemies. So, a small unit of Isidas makes a lot of sense, which can restore your team's health if no first aids are available. For CTF, there are more obvious roles. The first one that comes to mind is defence. This is because you are already likely to be behind in the game when you join, so you have to completely suppress the enemy from taking your flag. A strong defensive team often involves strong Freezes and Isidas, mounted on heavier hulls. Since you also need to capture flags, a strong offensive force is a must. For CP, the main objective is to capture the point of course, so a strong unit is needed to do this. Often, heavier tanks are great, since they are more effective in a head on drug-war, and can last at the point for a longer period of time. Other supporting roles can provide covering fire. And there we are, a few quick and basic tips for success in takeovers. Of course, these are only basic - in the end it comes down to the strength of your team and your own skills! Good luck! Feel free to share your own funds and raids! Full credit goes to for her work on the title picture! -
Would totally buy this paint if it said kirby :D

Probably lack of explanation on my part. Good luck all! It's harder than last time...

Viking VS Dictator. Which is better? Why do players use Viking more?

Viking forever! -
Bet on wolfenstein over wasp? Sure :) I put WASP anyway... So :p
-
That's what I thought too, but if you think about it, what does the rest of the picture mean then? The answer is most probably to do with the overall picture - the map wolfenstein. As for today's pretty certain it's limadj2 :) check vlog 12 for confirmation.
-
Tbh, yesterday's was probably wolfenstein. Should've looked at the overall picture
-
It's 1000 -_- Maybe we can discuss privately. Anyone who wants to join a discussion group (just you guys), message me on the forum? We can make a skype group together :)
-
As long as we've put the answer in, it doesn't affect us really. But yeah, I suppose you're right, won't be on here tomorrow.
-
Why is there WASP written there also :p The picture is ambiguous anyway, I think it's far more likely that wasp holds the answer. Ok, I'm out for today!
-
Looks like 1000 to me -_- the wasp written in the corner seems like a more obvious hint
-
Hehehe but that's worth less points!
-
But I don't get where the 1099 comes from -_-
-
In the pic, wasp is written in capital letters, I don't know whether it matters, but I went for WASP
-
Thanks Semyon! Well done to all the team, and wishing you the very best for 2015!

Unlock rank, looks :p Acceleration isn't pushing power by the way. Pushing is a mixture between power and weight I believe. -
At the different modifications, how good they are takes into account the unlock rank. For example, m2 Viking is much better than m2 hunter stat wise, but unlocks later. Similarly, hunter m3 is probably better than Viking m3, but unlocks later. Overall, considering m4 when everything is on an even playing field, Viking is slightly slower, but More armoured. The differences are fairly balanced - hunter has 10% less hp, Viking has 10% less speed. Other important things to note - hunter is heavier, less prone to impact from enemy fire, Viking has greater acceleration, more manoeuvrable in small areas, and easier to 'Bob' your tank to aim up and down quickly. If I had to pick, these would be my personal hull preferences for: Isida- hunter Firebird- hunter Freeze- hunter Smoky- hunter Thunder- Viking Railgun- hunter Shaft- hunter Rico- hunter Twins- Viking Hammer- hunter

^ bear in mind the vast majority of players don't make the actual game. If everyone made their own games, there would be no good battles! So this is not a valid excuse for low rankers joining. If you are low rank, and do not have good equipment, that is not your fault. But if you join a high ranked team, think about those players - it does not matter how skilled you are, you will not be able to compete. You are ruining the game for the team you join, so of course they won't be happy. Now, is this your fault? I have no problem with low rankers, I will respect everyone. But I am not happy when sub-Majors join - it severely weakens the team, especially if I can easily invite friends to fill in the space... Think about Island - one low rankers joins and you essentially have lost a third of your team... The solution - join games of your own rank. Not only will this make it easier for you, but it would also not ruin games for high rankers.

I'm guessing it needs to be linked. Otherwise it is too easy to troll other players

Thunder, and MUs. What are your other paints? If you are a thunder user, you might find emerald more useful
-
Haha np. With just normal damage thunder does more damage at any range :p
