Wasp and Hammer. They pair really well and work in a range of maps. Mars isn't really worth it IMO, there are much better paints you can get later on. Yes, You can get on hulls using Hornet+Hammer.

Twins Definitely. It is a lot more versatile than Vulcan and works well on all those maps

I got 25k in 1 day (around 6 hours) on my alt. A few drugs in a Poly CP will get you all the XP you need :)

To put this simply, No. It is a map built for campers.

It is popular because it is the only turret with a special game mode for it Yes, Railgun pairs amazingly with Wasp. However, don't get Wasp m2. You have Hornet M3 which is pretty similar and Smoky will be more valuable to you than Wasp will

If you need only Thunder protection, get Cedar. If you want a more decent paint then Rustle will be better (obviously :P). Rustle is still used by a lot of Star ranks(, , , ) but after that it seems to become rarer

Smoky definitely!!! It performs well against m3 turrets and hulls and is pretty simple to use.
