A Letter That Traveled Through Time

3rd September 2015 Dear ‘Fini’, This letter is probably going to break your heart in a thousand ways, but it is definitely going to prepare you for what is coming tomorrow. Your life is going to change tomorrow. You are going to change tomorrow. And when all of that happens, I just want you to soak it in. I want you to imbibe all the thoughts and feelings that you are going to feel tomorrow. I do not mean to frighten you. I am just a friend. A person will walk away from your life tomorrow. I am not going to tell you who the person is. You will see. This person is the one that you talk to day in and day out. A person that your soul loves. A person who is deeply embedded in your daily routine. A person who means everything and still nothing. You think that this person will never give up on you. You think that this person will stay by your side for the rest of your life. You think everything is just perfect. Oh dear, you have never been so wrong in your life. The love for this person has blinded you and kept reality away from you, but your eyes are going to open tomorrow. You will realize that the most disastrous storms are the ones that are always preceded by the loveliest days. All the thorns of that rose you have been holding in your hand for a while now, are finally gonna hurt you. They will sting you so hard that you might not want to hold a rose again. Reality is coming. And when reality sets in, this is what is going to happen to you. You are going to commit the most foolish mistake. You are going to pick up that monster and make a call to the person. You know it would not help you in anything, but you are desperate enough to make the call. You miss that person and it is completely fine, but this decision of yours will be one of the many decisions that you are going to regret. The six hundred seconds will be one of your turning points. You are going to ask the person to show his/her face that you have been dying to see for the past couple of weeks, before they leave you on your own. And when that happens, promise me that you are going to put up a smile. Do not let your last face the person will see, be a crying one. And then your day will end. The most spiritual journey of discovering yourself will start day after tomorrow. The sun rays will fall upon you in the morning while your head is lying on a pillow drenched in tears. You wake up to a new life. You will wake up to a new routine. You would not know where to start and what to do. Your mind will become numb. You will not feel anything. You will only think about the horror of what will happen tomorrow. Nothing helps. Meeting friends. Playing games. Watching TV shows. Nothing at all. All you will want to do is sleep. The dreamland is way better, isn't it? You cannot always stay there. You have to step out. You have to return back to reality. I know you will be scared, but the world is far more beautiful than what you think. You will realize it. Not now. It will take some time. All the colorful things will seem black and white for some time. You will not be able to focus on anything because you are not that emotionally strong after all. You will want to make a call again to ask for forgiveness. Promise me. Promise me that you will never ever do that. Not only that, I have this list of promises for you: 1. You will not lose your self-respect. It is the most precious thing you can have. It belongs to you. No one in the whole world has the right to snatch it away from you. 2. You will believe in yourself. You are a wonderful boy. Donot lose the confidence you have been building for the past couple of years. You had to go through a lot to make a transition from the shy introvert to what you are today. Do not let it go. 3. You will not give in to bad habits. When negativity becomes your ally, there are more chances of doing things that are not at all good for you. Donot even think about it. You are much better than all that. 4. You will not lose your morals and principles. Perspectives will change. Principles and morals are sacred. It should be unadulterated. 5. Finally come out of this quicksand as a better evolved human being. Time will heal everything my friend. Just have patience. Till then I want you to realize the things that you have learnt. I want you to draw conclusions. Amend the compendium that you have written down for your own life. Make a few changes. Amidst all of this, never ever speak of any bad words for that person who is no more a part of your life. Sometimes you will. Just try your best to avoid it. The person came into your life for a reason. Cherish that. Cherish the beautiful memories that you have had with this person. You will move on. You will get out of the trench. And guess what, you will be ten times more mature and wiser than what you were. Life is beautiful my friend. Life is all about experiences. Some are amazing and some are extremely awful. Learn your lessons from both of them. You will turn into an adult in a couple of months. Welcome to real life, my friend. Welcome to this world which is so beautiful and yet so disappointing at the same time. You are a fighter. You are not going to give away everything you have because of one bad experience. Trust me, there is worse to come. And when that happens, you will already be a better version of yourself. See it as an opportunity to upgrade yourself rather than seeing it as a tragedy. Find positive sides of everything. Accept the fact that this person is gone. It will be better for you in the long run. You are a champion. You are born to succeed. Find your momentum and conquer this big bad world. Yours Sincerely, Fini.

    A Meeting with an Evangelist

23rd June 2013 Like any other normal day, I woke up to my dog barking next to my bed indicating that he wanted his first meal of the day. It was pouring heavily that morning. The entire atmosphere was a bit eerie and philosophical. I stepped out in my balcony with my Java and gazed at the darkness of what was supposed to be a bright day. While Leo(my pet) was churning on his breakfast, his elder brother was quite lost that morning. It had been twenty days since I came back from my university for my summer break. I had already begun a couple of online courses and was hitting the gymnasium regularly. Despite acquiring new knowledge and taking care of my health, something was missing. After a couple of hours, my parents were having their morning tea in the living room and talking about community, politics and innovative ways of cleaning Leo's dirt all around the house. Imagine waking up to this hysterical conversation every single morning. Both of them eventually gave up. My father turned towards me while taking the last sip of his tea and told me that he has a surprise for me. What could it be? After minutes of worthless guessing, I put on my best shirt and trousers and left the house with dad. Both of us were sitting in the backseat of my father's new car and I could not help but wonder what the surprise was. "Where are you taking me dad?", I finally asked just to break the awkward silence. He told me that he was taking me to meet an evangelist. " What is an evangelist?", I asked taking out my phone and trying to google the term. He gave me one of his typical smiles and reminded me that it was still a surprise. He took the phone and kept it out of my arm's reach. We reached my dad's old workplace. After crossing through two or three layers of security, we landed in front of a wooden door with a plate on it. It read-" Bernard Thomas, CEO". My father knocked and entered with a smile as if he was reuniting with one of his long lost best friends. Mr. Bernard was tall and old. He was smoking, sitting on his giant chair and examining the heap of files that lay in front of him. He hugged my father and greeted me with a very positive smile. After listening to my father and Bernard talk about each other and their businesses, my father finally introduced me in a very brief manner. We spoke about my university life for the initial fifteen minutes. After the small talk, he finally asked me 'The' question," What is that one thing that makes you, an evangelist?". Once again, I could not think what the word meant and looked at my father in search of some sort of assistance. Mr. Bernard looked at me and laughed in a very childish way which was followed by a drag. He looked at me and asked me what made me happy. What makes my day complete? Is Engineering really what I wanted to study or is there something else which gives me real happiness. Amidst all these questions, I found myself without any answers. I was awestruck by the way Uncle left me speechless in those mere twenty minutes. " Is this what an evangelist means?", I asked with an inquisitive face. He smiled and said that it was pretty close to the true essence of the beautiful word. He pulled his chair closer to the table for the first time and told me the real meaning of the word. It goes like this: An Evangelist is a person who spreads a purpose which is positive in nature. He/She has simply found what is the sole purpose of his/her life. After realizing what you stand for, if you are able to spread the idea of introspecting yourself and finding your own purpose, you are an "Evangelist". The next puzzle that lay in front of me was: How do I become an evangelist? How do I make sure that I am doing what I love? Mr. Bernard appreciated my curiosity and said that the answer lies in the definition. Before becoming an evangelist, I need to introspect myself and go deep in my mind. Remember when we were kids and had so much passion to become an astronaut or a footballer. What happened to all that craziness? Where did the fire go? Soon I realized that I need to protect that flame of mine. This brings me to my "Flame Concept". As I mentioned earlier, I need to protect my flame. What the hell is this flame that I am talking about again and again? This flame is a mixture of your deepest desires and your passion. It is a unique property which belongs to only you out of the seven billion people in this whole world. This flame is burning with all its power till you start pouring negative thoughts in your mind. And all these negative thoughts accumulate up into one big monster called as "Fear". Life happens. The monster starts doing his work and most of the people let him take their fire down. They forget all about their passion and desires. They choose to traverse the famous path because they do not want to take that risk of traveling away from the herd. They thought that if they would take the road less traveled, they would not be revered in the society with respect and would be tagged as insane. Imagine Success as the most beautiful woman in this world. Mr. Bernard finally stubbed his poison down and told me that success is a very choosy woman. She will not give any attention to people who are rich or people who are good looking. She looks for people with a heart of steel. She looks for people who have the courage to listen to themselves and follow the path that they have laid. In a more informal way, she prefers guts. He looked at me and gave me the "Note the pun" smile. When you are successful in finding your flame, all you need to do is protect it. Protect your flame from the demons inside you. Go back and write the things you love the most. List down the things that you wanted to become when you were a kid. Forget all the negativity in this world for once and be yourself. Rekindle the fire and conquer the world. The Room felt like a library for the next minute and Uncle got up from his chair. He walked up to me and embraced me. It was a magical moment. After the beautiful one hour session that I had with Mr. Bernard, he dropped us back to my dad's fancy car. Not a single word was spoken on our way back home. Only emotions and realization. When I studied myself, I realized that motivating others keeps me happy. Making everyone smile around me gives me a feeling which cannot be put into words. I am not saying that I have found myself at such a young age. I am still in search of the fire that I used to have when I was unaware of the atrocities of this world. I am still a traveler searching for meaning. Sharing all these thoughts is what I think makes me an evangelist in the true sense. I want each and everyone of you to just take a couple of hours out of your precious time and introspect yourself. Apply the flame concept to your life and travel to the deepest trenches of your mind. Find that torch and bring it back, to rekindle that fire. Just imagine your mind without all that negativity. You will move mountains my friend. When I went back to bed, I realized the missing element when I started the day. It was nothing but my flame.

There are no standardized methods to cross the hurdles or solve the problems that life throws at us. But there's a time-honoured magic formula that can cinch our deal with success. To discover the magic formula, continue reading... When John Roebling, the chief engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, wanted to build the renowned bridge experts worldwide asked him to forget the idea because they considered it impossible. But both Roebling and his son Washington just would not give up their dream! Their project kicked off well. But in a series of tragic accidents John Roebling passed away and Washington was incapacitated. Washington was incapable of walking, talking or even moving. All he could do was move one finger. Though bed-ridden, Washington remained strong in his dedication to engineer his dream. Gradually, using just one finger, he developed a code of communication with his wife. He touched his wife's arm with that finger, indicating his intention to call the engineers again. The engineers were called. And then called again and again. For thirteen years. And for that many years Washington tapped out construction instructions with his one finger sitting at his home and his able wife, Emily, carried his instructions to the workers. In 1883 when the bridge opened to the public, the world stood in awe of its beauty. It was an engineering marvel of its time. It was the world's first steel-wire suspension bridge, and the Roeblings had constructed it. Neither the tragedy that befell John Roebling discourage him or his son from giving up on the project, nor did the adversity that plagued Washington Roebling deter him or his wife from constructing a bridge whih at its time was the world's longest suspension bridge. It was by the dint of extraordinary determination and perseverance shown by the Roeblings that the bridge transformed from a blueprint on paper to the strong, graceful steel structure it is today. The inspiring story of Roeblings teaches us a magic formula that we can follow in our lives as well. It teaches us that when hurdles keep us from realizing our dreams, we don't always have to do anything extraordinary to solve the problems or cross the hurdles. We just have to persevere a little longer; try a little harder. And his method usually works like a charm. Remember, the difference between try and triumph is just the amount of little 'umph' added to the try.

I'll tell you what actually happened. You changed your attitude towards your life. Your perspective changed about a lot of things. You might not have noticed that but it sure changed your life. I am glad you took time to share your story and in a way, throw light into many who read it. I loved your post. It shows a lot of foregone pain and sweat. I agree with what you have written. Asking for help from the right people in your circle will improve your situation. Reading books, meditation, yoga and playing a sport you love will be an added advantage to your mood. Anyways, thanks for both of your feedbacks.
