[Issue 39] Viewpoints Of The Staff II

Hello there ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the second edition of Viewpoints of the Staff! This article involves questioning some staff members with an off/on-topic question. If you've noticed, this is the opposite of Remaine's Ask the Community. If there's any questions you'd like me to ask in the next edition, feel free to comment below. With that being said, let's get this started! _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The questions for this issue are: Off-Topic: Which do you like better, Chicken or Salad? On-Topic: Do you think it was a good thing for Tanki Online to remove Consultants? _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Forum Moderator/Helper: MarineMan2 Ah, I'd say I prefer salad. It has a nice fresh taste, and I enjoy all the different things that can be done with it. I can always have an interesting taste. I like adding different types of dressing, adding other bits of food in, or even throwing some in chicken on occasion. ;) _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Forum Moderator: The.Devourer Honestly, I prefer chicken. I never eat salad, like never. I dislike it, no idea why. If I eat anything, I usually remove the salad or when I order I tell them to make it with no salad. Moreover, I would not like the whole Newspaper team to be pissed at me due to me not liking chicken. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Chat Moderator: DEMONEKxD Hmm I like salad especially with yoghurt's but chicken with crispy crust... ohh love that <3 Hahah _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Forum Moderator: falcosenna1 Give me some delicious chicken please! Every time I go to a restaurant and get some salad with my meal, I just leave the salad untouched in the upper right or upper left corner of my plate, depending on where it’s lying. For some reason it never lies at the bottom. I completely dislike tomatoes and don’t really like the taste of cucumber, lettuce or maize either. Carrots do manage to convince my taste buds, but I’ll only eat them if they’re not drowning in vinaigrette. I’m just a real meat lover. I couldn’t live without it. There are some good restaurants nearby where you can eat spare ribs à volonté. It’s like heaven for me. I know spare ribs aren't chicken meat, but I prefer all types of meat (including chicken) over a salad! :P _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ eSports/Chat Mod/Helper: Adequacy Salad is mostly made of vegetables and chickens eat vegetables, too. So by choosing chicken I choose both, right? Chicken, please! _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3-3. 4-3 If I were to Interview Hogree  To the on-topic question!! _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Forum Moderator/Helper: MarineMan2 *Warning do not open for your own risk* _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Forum Moderator: The.Devourer In my opinion, the removal was in the wrong direction. Consultants did a great job at helping people, answering questions and solving issues. They had no other job than that (except that they sometimes ban for 5 minutes), but now, their job is on the hands of another group - chat mods. But chat mods are already quite busy just moderating the chat, and honestly, that was hard enough. But now, they have to also along with banning answering questions, respond to issues, which is, in my opinion, just too much for them. I honestly see less people in the chat being answered as most of the time chat mods are just too busy moderating, and they have no time to answer questions. Moreover, answering questions and just posting one message will get them tons of questions and basically turn their screen light green (thanks to the new icons near their name http://imgtnk.com/i/4cf76b27.jpg), which will pretty much hinders most (if not all) their chat modding ability simply due to the huge number of messages they must respond too and the clustering of the chat. That being said, I was actually against the removal, but sadly, I was too late to actually try to do something, so I guess they're gone now, which is really sad. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Chat Moderator: DEMONEKxD In my opinion it was good to remove consultants. Why? Because a part of them is still working with us as Chat Mods. From what I know Consultants were created for helping players in they troubles etc but they didn't have powers like Chat Mods. Chat moderating is very similar to work as consultant. We are here also for help all players on chat like old Consultants but with powers. For me I think it was good change for everyone. Old consultants can't deal with violations on chat... Now a part of them who joined our team of chat mods can do that and I think this is better for they and also for players. We spend time on chat everyday and answering the question from players and also keeping chat clean and cozy to every single player who comes along. So consultants are still here as a chat mods group and every single part of community helpers. Chat,Forum,Facebook and all other mods can helpful for our players. We can say every single mod is an Consultant. Thats my point of view. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Forum Moderator: falcosenna1 I don't really feel strong about it, though I completely understand the developers' choice to remove Consultants. Nevertheless it must be said that our consultants did a wonderful job. They were always contactable and ready to help players with all their questions, doubts and technical issues both in the game chat and on the forum. Players knew they were the ones to contact whenever they faced some kind of difficulties. Though, chat moderators and forum moderators share the same knowledge as the consultants and are also up for players in need of advice, or help in general. This way, chat moderators and forum moderators, as well as facebook moderators on TO’s official facebook page, were partly doing the job ‘reserved’ for the consultants making it somehow absurd for the job of consultant to exist. Once consultants were removed, players didn’t face any trouble, nor did the other staff members or the former consultants as they were offered another staff job if I remember it correctly. Players still knew/know who to contact, and to make it easier, developers have implemented some extra features like the question marks in the game chat in front of the chat moderators’ and admins’ nicknames which indeed increases their workload, though I’d not say the position of consultant must be brought back. Lately, about 1 month ago, a major change has been made to our forum with whom we were so familiar. The Questions & Answers topic as well as the FAQ had been replaced by the help site led by our help site consultants who are not to be confused with the prior consultants. The help site consultants have got a fixed work terrain, namely TO’s help site where they’re answering all players questions. This is a huge difference in comparison with the former consultants who were working like everywhere. All staff jobs have their own ‘work terrain’, except for the first consultants and all other staff members were also helping players in need. Therefore I agree with the removal. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ eSports/Chat Mod/Helper: Adequacy Consultants' main job was to educate, while Chat mods' job was to... punish the ones who didn't learn their lessons. This made Chat mods look like the "bad guys" even though their job was one of the most important jobs in the game, if not the most important one. In my opinion removing Consultants was a good decision. They were a "mixture" of all staff jobs we had at that moment and by removing them the administration drew a splitting line between all staff positions. Now Chat mods answer questions, educate the players and reserve the right to punish their bad students. I don't know the whole story behind how the decision to remove the position was made, but I can surely say the guys working under the avatar I'm now proudly wearing did an awesome job and were really helpful. Oh hey! I'm working with an ex-Consultant! We're called Consultants as well and our work is mostly the same: answering players' questions and clearing their doubts. Good things never go without a return :) _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Do you think it was a good thing for T.O to remove Consultants? And which do you like better, Chicken or Salad? Share your thought below! *Thanks to the above staff members for taking time to respond to our questions*

[Issue 39] Helper Interviews: Chat Moderators II

*Credits to Shadow aka Boss member for the pic* These guys are the all-seeing eye of the Administration. They are always on the front line, right in the game watching over flooders, garbage mouths and other offenders to keep them from spoiling the mood of decent players. In this Interview you will get to know our Chat Mods, and their time being a Chat Mod. @deadtoyou @angelreaper @Adequacy I've asked them all the same questions, and I hope you guys enjoy the Interviews, and got a good read! Yellow are for the questions and Grey for the replies. Let's begin. ___________________________________________________________ Thanks for taking time to take part in this Interview today! Please start by introducing yourselves. : Hello I am toto2005 , my name is Mohammad from iran :) @deadtoyou: Pleased to meet you too Elect. :) I am Joshua Meyer from America, although I go by Josh or my Tanki nickname mostly. :) : Hello guys,i am royalraj my real name is Rajadurai from India,i was graduated in engineering "Electronics & Communication department" after that i became a businessman. @angelreaper: Hi I’m angelreaper, probably the oldest MOD (57), I am English from just outside London but I live in New Zealand now. I was introduced to Tanki by my sons and got hooked not only to the game/battles but more so the chat. I can’t shut up talking to players !! @Adequacy: Hey, I'm Hov. In the game I'm better known as arm or Adequacy. I'm currently an eSports Reporter, Helpsite Consultant and Chatmod and eSports Official candidate. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Nice to meet you guys. So, how did you dedicate yourself into doing this tough job? : I started playing this game in 2011. Every day I noticed players been using bad language and stealing accounts and I like to help so I thought why not start helping here to keep it nice and safe for all players it’s a tough job for sure but by the time I become good at it @deadtoyou: I have been playing this game for about 3 years now, and ever since I started, I've seen players being abused, having problems, asking questions, and having trouble finding people to help them out. I dedicated some of my online time to hanging out in chat to help others, and reporting violators when I see them. I applied for Chat Moderator, and now most of my online time is dedicated to helping others in chat. :) : I have seen in this game more players are playing from different countries with different cultured and simply upset/hurt others by posting offense word to them directly or indirectly so i like to protect them from decent, respected players and i dedicated my self in this job. @angelreaper: Having 2 young sons play on here I was staggered by the foul language and abuse.one weekend it was horrific, I could not get a post in the forum to report and could find no mods (due to time zone) so I started helping on chat. But soon it became evident that because I could advice players I had no ability to stop the offenders so I applied to become a mod and got selected. J Now after 5 months or so I have been luckily enough to see many players who before had an indifference to mods, happily chat to me and feel relaxed enough to chat and joke. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Interesting. Do you like banning people? What was your first time like? : Not really I always make sure to let them know about rules and I always warn them for that but sometimes they don’t leave me any choice they do the things against the rules even after warn they don’t stop then I have to ban them to keep it safe and nice for other players. I really wish all players understand and respect the rules so we don’t have to take any action. @deadtoyou: Do I enjoy it? No. Do I gain a small sense of satisfaction from it? Yes. Clean chat is a big plus for me, and I like knowing that players can enjoy the game and it's multiplayer chat option to it's full potential. :) My first time was full of stress, because I was constantly double-checking to make sure I did the right thing. Once I fell into a routine, it became like a second thought, so now it's easier to focus on chatting with the players. :) : Not much like in banning people but I was surprised at the beginning. @angelreaper: No, banning is a failure to connect. Having said that I happily ban cheats/scammers. Cant stand cheats, love team work and fair play. First time (and many more after that) was nervous, am I doing the right thing, what have I done. Even now I get nervous on some bans especially newbies, I often chat to offenders, advice many times and warn before banning…don’t like it @Adequacy: Upon registering players confirm that they've read and agree to follow the rules of the game. If rules are broken, chat moderators do not only think about the player who broke the rules, but also about the ones who were somehow affected by that (i.e. seeing a bad word in chat or becoming a victim of phishing). I do like banning people because I know it helps the community and makes the chat a better and a more friendly place, but at the same time I do not like banning because I'm the one who "decides" for how long the player must stay banned and it's like I'm just taking away their ability to talk (but hey, we all know what will happen if they continue that way). I was really nervous during the period of the first 2 days. I was making sure I was pressing the right key and doing the right thing and even when I were 100% sure, I'd just check for one last time. I think all of our current Chat mods can admit this is what their first ban looked like :D. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Seems like the enjoyment is real low! :P Has there any mistakes during time of Moderation for instance banning friends or Innocent tankers? : Things happen you know we all human make mistake so yes I did made mistake but by the time I learned more and been with one of best team been working with them I learned more day by day I become good @deadtoyou: I have made a few mistakes, that's how I keep learning and becoming better at my job. :) My fellow Moderators have been a huge help and support for me, giving me advice and tips. :D : Yes,human error can occur not much but i will rectify immediately. @angelreaper: Ha ha, oh yes, I’ve been banned by mistake. And banned by mistake. But we have an excellent team and admin there to help and if necessary unban. We (Mods) are chatting on skype so can ask for advice all the time. but it happens @Adequacy: Luckily, I haven't put the team into any kind of serious trouble (yet?). Before starting the work, Chat mods wear special kind of glasses which make everyone look the same. We have friends, too. A lot of them! But when it comes to breaking rules, they're tankers and we cannot ignore their violations. No innocent tanker was banned or warned by mistake during my candidacy period and hopefully I'll keep working without making serious mistakes. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Alright. Is there any useful Information to anyone who wants to become a Chat Moderator? : You should have a lot patience and treat all players same. @deadtoyou: Have no illusions about what you are aspiring to become....a Chat Moderator is the face of the Administration in the chat, you are representing them, and your behavior is key. Helping others, answering questions, solving problems.....do this with a smile and a great attitude. :D In fact, do everything with a big :D. : Should be honest even if your friend using offense word and maintain order in chat. @angelreaper: Must be able to be objective and chilled when it all kicks off. Just keep calm and chat. Don’t let players get to you as some will go out of their way to push your buttons but you must be totally separate from it. @Adequacy: If you want to become a Chat Moderator for banning players, don't waste your time trying. The job of Chatmods is not only to ban, but to talk to players and explain them why what they're doing is wrong, clearing their doubts. Answering questions ("educating" players) is also a part of the job. You'll be asked the same question over and over again. You must stay cool and answer it just the way you'd answer if you were asked that question for the first time. And most importantly -- treat players with a lot of respect. We've all been low-ranked once and we've all asked for help, too. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Nice Info. Now, any last words for our readers? : Challenges are what makes life interesting overcoming them is what makes life meaningful so be happy and enjoy the game. @deadtoyou: Give a like, Elect writes good articles. Cheers! Hope to see you on the battlefield! B) ~deadtoyou (http://tnkscr.net/ghPYxD.jpg) : Be happy, and enjoy the game. @angelreaper: Game advice….talk more to team members….Work as team help each other Chat advice…..talk respectfully, you will get more out of it. Let others give their point of view and respect it. But enjoy, talk about yourself get to know others, ask advice about the game. @Adequacy: You don't have to be an official helper with an avatar and paint to be considered a helper. Nowadays there are many players who enter servers for the purpose of answering others' questions and this is one of the "faith in humanity restored" moments :P. If you really want to help others but for some reasons you don't become an official helper, don't be broken! Continue helping players without being an official helper. What's the problem with that? We're all a part of one community and each one of us can change the community in a unique way, so you decide whether you want that change to be positive or negative :) _______________________________________________________________________________________________ I hope you enjoyed the interview! Special and big thanks to toto2005, deadtoyou, royalraj, angelreaper, and Adequacy for answering my questions!! Still have questions about Forum Moderators? Feel free to comment below with your question(s), I'm sure they'll be happy to answer you!
