Men may not all be predators, but it's your gender that most of them are hiding in. As a woman, I have no problems with your side being asked/told collectively to improve - if it doesn't apply to you, then why be offended? Also, to add to the above 'rant', I just wanna point out how it feels when a bloke makes a joke, much less a pointed question about 'women being in the kitchen' or some crap like that. Most girls/women/females that I know would have a go at a guy if he said such a thing because "it's offensive". I understand the point that calling out rape is different to making jokes and getting away with it, but I also recognise that there are different (and probably better) ways to deal with/call out a problem then having a go at a whole group (Also it's late and I'm tired and lazy and can't think of a better example, this is just the first thing that popped in my head.) Idrc about this ad, it's honestly irrelevant at this point, but I have got a question for you about when you say "The best a man can get" and they have modernised it for this advert to "The best a man can be" and the video is about Gillette saying how men can be the best they can, by stopping the worst of male pattern behaviour". Long quote sorry, but basically the question I want to ask is: Is discouraging people away from being the worst they can be the same as encouraging people to be the best they can be? Do you think that if gillette had've given the ad a positive spin on the matter (respect women, Doing good in the community, etc) rather than a negative spin (kill all the cis white guys), not only would they not have alienated the people they were trying to reach but also actually send a message. If you simply blanket label groups such as (all men (and as the ad puts it all white men) are rapists), what you get (and this is true of most groups of people) is a bunch of people who will simply ignore what you have to say, which literally makes impotent any pointed comments/scene etc that were aimed at said group anyway. To put it simply, if you're trying to hit a target, you're better to aim for the target than trying to miss the background because it puts your focus on the wrong thing. Just my 2 cents and as I said, I don't actually care, just thought I'd point it out.
