Well, for my first go at testing, that was a bit of a shock to the system - but I won't go into that here! Issues I have found that are a problem for me: In full-screen mode the camera zoom is controlled by moving the mouse backwards and forwards AND by the mouse scroll wheel. This is a problem as moving the mouse causes angle of view changes when I don't want them, and I have to keep re-adjusting it. I think the camera zoom should only be controlled by the scroll wheel - as in windowed mode. When exiting 'full-screen mouse control' via the ESC key to go back to 'windowed mouse control', I can no longer turn the turret with the mouse and there is no 'circle' pointer on the screen - but I can still fire with the mouse. I can only reactivate the mouse turret 'turning' ability by pressing a keyboard turret control key first. I think you should be able to switch from using mouse control in full-screen to mouse control in windowed mode without using the keyboard controls in between. In windowed mode there is a couple of big problems IMO regarding gameplay: Because the front of the hull is your camera view, you cannot hide behind a wall by having the hull parallel to it whilst turning turret at right angles to face the enemy. The hull has to face the same direction - so you can't peep around corners. Also, you have to turn the hull around to see the enemy who's firing behind you so you can target them whilst continuing to drive away, which is much slower than just quickly turning the turret and firing whilst driving in the same direction as you was before. You will probably die before you get a chance to shoot back. -------- I think there will be pros and cons to using the mouse instead of the keyboard - which will depend upon personal preferences. Tanki is the first game I've played using just a keyboard - I've played FPS for many years using mouse and arrow keys. I didn't think I would ever get the hang of using full keyboard controls, but I'm not doing too badly now. It doesn't feel quite right using a mouse with this game after getting used to the keyboard - but no doubt many will learn to use the mouse and will then find that keyboard only controls won't seem right or natural to them. If the mouse had been an option when I first joined, I would not have even attempted to learn the keyboard only controls. At the moment I feel more 'at one' with the tank after getting used to the keyboard, so I don't want to mess that up by using the mouse too much. I am still a 'noob', and not really in your typical type of demographic, but I hope some of this makes sense!

In the 'Developer News' section, under 'Let's Discuss Vulcan' (post 145) - it has been mentioned that this bug will be fixed very shortly - so Hammer users make the most of it as your domination is nearing it's end... :P

What do you do in a losing battle? (Any battle from 15 mins to whatever timing the battle is)
MrsTankBuster2 replied to CrimsonSaviour in Archive
I will usually stick it out to the end providing there is at least one other member of my team making an effort. Or, if not that, then if I'm due a decent amount of crystals for my own efforts. -
I got the M0 on a lower account, and I think this is an absolutely fascinating turret (I'm normally a Twins/Rico user). I like the sluggish behaviour, strange gyro, slow start up, overheating, slow turning rate and sound effects - that's what makes it an interesting and challenging weapon to master. The only thing is, when you do master it, you want some reward (i.e. nice kills) - but the lack of damage dealt stops this pay-off. The only two things that needs a bit of tweaking IMO is the damage dealt and the auto-aiming. The damage is just a tad too low, even after some micro-upgrading and it seems to struggle to lock on to a target at distance on a different level. It would be a shame if it were 'over-tweaked' though - it would lose it's unique character amoungst the other turrets. I also found it near impossible to kill a Hammer on a wasp coming straight towards me, despite me being fully on target and with full health. This happened many times. The auto-aim fixes on the turret and not the hull - maybe I'm doing something wrong. Other types of turret were destroyed within normal parameters. Others have also remarked on similar situations with a Hammer, so something odd might be going on here.

I think the firing sound effects for this gun are excellent - unlike Hammer, which doesn't sound quite right to me.

Coincidently after reading this thread, yesterday I saw a similar thing happen in a CP game. A hammer on our team kept shooting at a shaft on our team. Absolutely no idea why as they had both only just joined. The hammer just wouldn't let up, and then I thought he had left, but he had only changed equipment. He returned with a Rico and continued to shoot at the shaft! I'm surprised the shaft didn't just leave, as he had no opportunity to join in the game. What on earth is this behaviour all about I wonder?

Wow, that's awful! I wonder why he is picking on you? Must have a screw loose - really bad...

I was very disappointed in it's damage levels when I first bought M1 Twins, but since mu'ing it a bit it's holding up okay when used with Hunter M1 around my rank. To me, Rico M1 is a more powerful and versatile weapon, but since using Twins, I'm finding Rico (with Hornet M1) is harder work and takes more effort to use - that is not to say that using Twins effectively is easy, but it is 'easier' in my experience. I really enjoy using Twins M1 now and find that it is great for CP on small to medium maps as a support weapon and can really help turn the tide in certain situations. One problem I find though is that, as you really need both barrels on your target to maximise damage, it's a problem getting enough clear shots in with team mates in the way on smaller maps. I made a mistake recently in mu'ing the turret turning speed of Twins M1 - I'm now struggling to stop the turret swinging around all over the place when firing on the move - well, that's the way it seems to me anyway. I wish I could 'undo' that last micro upgrade! I suppose I'll get used to it... Does anyone else have to 'relearn' controling their equipment after micro-upgrading?

I (and others) find it difficult to find appropriate CP battles. Others say there are fewer TDM games around. Now I read that DM games are increasing difficult to find. I really think that dedicated battle-mode servers would help - as I suggested in the 'ideas and suggestions' section. People are being spread thinly over many servers, causing them to waste a lot of time trawling them to find a decent battle - if my experience is anything to go by. I expect that CTF doesn't have such a problem as it is much more popular. If there were dedicated CP, TDM and DM servers, everyone would know to go there - so there would be many more battles created and more people to fill them. More time would be spent playing rather than searching - for me anyway! The ratio of dedicated servers would be in proportion to the general popularity of each battle mode - but could, of course, be adjusted up or down depending on demand. I used to only play DM, but I must admit that I got a bit bored eventually - and the lack of crystal drops has made the experience a bit empty for me. It's not that I needed the crystals, but it just added another dimension to the gameplay - though I entirely agree with not having crystal drops in team games.

   I agree. Twins on wasp (or even hornet) is very dinky and cute-looking. The downside is it that it doesn't seem scare the opposition very much. I noticed on a recent poll that twins doesn't seem to be a very feared weapon. This is probably a very stupid question, but I sometimes see both barrels fire at the same time on other peoples twins, but try as I might, I can't seem to do this. How does one do this? Or is a random thing or optical illusion caused by lag? Cheers.

This is by far my favourite mode, though I don't really like the maps with only 1 point in. 3 or more points to fight over on many different types of map is great fun. The problem for me is that it's so hard to find any battles. I seem to spend more time trawling through servers trying to find something appropriate, than time spent actually playing! The availability of CP battles also seems to be getting fewer as my rank is going up. I'm starting to trawl the Russian and German servers now in search of a decent game - and still not much going on! I don't know if others have this problem, or if they are more content with the likes of Polygon CP, but there just doesn't seem to be enough choice of games around for me, which is a pity.

Perhaps one should learn some 'manners' and have some 'respect' for other peoples' opinions before one tries to lecture about sportsmanship. After all, what you are posting is only your opinion too, so not very 'sporting' to try to put down anyone that doesn't see things the same way as you do. Just my opinion of course...

Good team work: Don't pick up a repair kit when you have full health and your poor, battered teammate is limping towards it...

I was thinking the same, though of course, that is not necessarily the motivation for some of those who have alt. accounts. :P My first account is now my lower ranked alt. count - I have since started again as I wanted to spend earned crystals in a different way. However, I started using my lower rank alt. again recently, as I found there is a better variety of CP game maps in the early ranks, so I don't think everyone's motives would be just to beat 'noobs' up - though granted that probably would be some. I don't like 'cheating' or bullying in any shape or form, and I always prefer to join the side of the underdog. When I first joined Tanki, I can't say that I felt set upon by what seemed like vastly superior players who were the same rank as me (and believe me, I ain't that good at it!) - so maybe they are in the minority compared to the amount of players that are 'genuinely' new?

You will find, when you get to 30 and beyond, that nothing really changes mentally. You are the same person at 30, 40, 50, 60 etc., as you were when you were a kid or teenager - you just look older, that's all! :P Gaming is just another form of entertainment, like watching TV, and is a great way to escape and relax for a while from the daily grind of life's responsibilities IMO. Sometimes the simpler the game, the more relaxing it is.

I mostly used to play DM, but find it a little boring after a while. TDM is okay, but hard to find the right game. I don't think I'm suited to playing CTF. Recently though, I dipped my toe into CP. Oh what joy! The most fun I've had since joining Tanki! Such a pity that there are so few games and even fewer choices of map used. Why is it not that popular I wonder? I started using my lower rank alt account again as CP seems to be more popular at beginner levels, with a much wider variety of maps played. I don't take much notice of the crystals or XP points it generates, I just really enjoy playing CP mode.

Thanks everyone for your input - from now on I shall shoot back. :D

What does it mean when you get shot at...
MrsTankBuster2 replied to MrsTankBuster2 in What does it mean when you get shot at... Archive
... by a member of your own team? I like to join losing sides in TDM or CP, work very hard for the team, and sometimes am able to help turn the tide. Sometimes the other side decide to leave with a few minutes still to go if they are now losing. So, with just our side left, someone from my own team might start shooting at me. It doesn't happen very often, but what does this mean? Are they trying to get rid of me so they can take a larger share of the battle fund? Are they just practising their shooting skills whilst waiting for the game to end? Or does it mean something else even? It doesn't really bother me, I find it quite amusing ( :D ) , but being a 'noob' I'm just curious as to what is going on here. Would someone please enlighten me? Cheers! -
Whilst I agree that everyone should be respectful, and that good moderation and much harsher punishments are probably needed, one should also try to ignore anyone that is bothering them. One doesn't personally know these faceless numpties, so one should try not to take what they say to heart. Rise above it, ignore them and have a little chuckle at their childish behaviour. They hide behind their keyboards and they don't seem to be having a very happy time of it. They probably feel inadequate in some way or another. They are life's losers - respectful people are winners. The main thing is, do not respond - they are not worth your precious time and effort. They will get annoyed at not getting a rise out of you and eventually stop if what they say is having no effect. If necessary, turn off chat for a while so you don't have to see the comments. :) I have to say that, being new to the game myself, I'm a little sad to see that high ranking people are having these problems. I would have hoped that other higher ranks would have had more respect for each other if they've been in the game a long time - re: abuse during a game.

DM with one other person who stopped playing, but whose tank was still there. I kept shooting at it and it kept respawning. Then the gold box siren went! I couldn't contain my excitement at having no competition for a gold box! I was looking everywhere for it and then I saw it drop in the distance. I started to race towards it, and would you believe it, the other guy returned and took the box! :(
