So I have a thought on the replacement of the daily free gift. Don't get rid of it Tanki Online Staff. Don't take away the only little thing many of us players have to even begin to equalize ourselves vs buyers, please? Really, please? Let's be real, a thousand free crystal or few speed up and and a handful of shield or double damage will not throw your world off kilter, and this incessant desire to force people into things, I shaft, period, and no daily bonus is going to convince me to buy a turret other than that, period. I'm not, at my rank, going to plop down credits on a M0 rico or freeze just to earn a few power ups or crystals. I need crystal though, in fact, that's what I look forward most to of all the daily bonuses. Micro upgrading a shafts' reload time is NOT cheap, the 1000+ crystals, those are heaven sent, and the power ups, well, while I really don't use them, if I have them and the opposition is simply too much, I have them to use fom time to time to even the field a little. I have ZERO interest in using twins, ricos, freezes, firebirds, isidias, and the other turrests, while okay, still cost money, money I don't have, so again, you are baiting the players into BUYING stuff by dangling the carrot of a free box of supplies in front of a younger audience that might not see the ramifications of this economic model. If your reasons are not so simplistic as money, it is still not a matter of simplicity, for the reasons above, and the fact that I will NEVER play half of those turrets, EVER, so why spend the money and the TIME trying to get proficient with them when I NEVER use them, and never will? This notion of trying to get people to play other turrets and do other things, why? Why insist, why make life so difficult? People play this game, isn't that enough? The is no under served turret per say. Everyone has their thing, and there is no point trying to force people into things they don't like. Give us our dinky freebies for showing up each day and let that rest. You take away many purchasing options for crystals, you make it difficult for a number of us to play (shafts will be my example), you constantly force the agenda of dynamic play by all, now you're going to take away the crystals and freebies and pro passes, I just don't understand the development team there at Tanki. You have a good thing, it works, why mess with little things like the daily gift, it's not broken, no one is complaining, leave it as it is, you still have plenty of buyers and it was never enough to make a real difference against them and the people who used those supplies are not going to magically start buying them because they don't get 14 speed ups and 6 shields per day anymore. So yeah, my thoughts on that.

Um, read first, and two, in not in the off topic area, then WHERE does something like this go?

So, today I want to recall fondly a railgun that seemed to take issue with me and my partner the other day. So set the stage. First off, I don’t play too often with others, don’t really have people I play with in particular, but on occasion I will team. This was one of them. This player is much higher ranked and we could barely fit into a battle where our ranks allowed us to play together, but alas, we found one. Serpuhov, great map, one of my favs, we both join red team. All good, all shaft, all back wall. We’re deer standing basically, and OWNING the blue team on that side of the map, rails, shafts, and of course the rest of the short range turrets. Two coordinated shafts on that ledge is basically certain death for the opposing team, if they even poke their heads out. I love that spot, in fact, I could drone on and on about all the joys of that little shelf there, how great it is, how perfect it is for shafting, how it’s harder to be snuck up on there, and how . . . oh, wait, I just said I wouldn’t go on and on, I digress. So yeah, were popping caps like hunters shooting deer, almost wanted to crack a brew, I mean damn, this was easy killing. Well, some Stephan dweeb (can’t remember the name exactly, but apparently he remembers mine, because he found me in other games and harasses the hell out of me) didn’t like that we apparently could do a good job for the team HE WAS ON, so he started trying to flip us. Now, that LOVELY spot is damn near impossible to mult team players on because auto aim doesn’t engage on team players, and there are no true flat surfaces to line up a shot on a tank there for mults. So this guy is sitting around trying to flip us, and again, no idea why. I’m guessing he wanted “dynamic” game play and hated us for our lethargic and boring and ULTRA EFFECTIVE lock down of the blue team and that side of the map. We laughed our a**es off watching him try to go from place to place, constantly attempting to line up a shot. NOW, the best part was, when he got frustrated, he decided a gander down the bridge and turn with rock motion might achieve his desired results. Thing is, there was A GAME GOING ON, so jacka** turns, began rolling backwards, and in a karmic state of affairs, the universe opened up and an ENEMY SHAFT parked on the upper trail opposite that side of the map popped his tank HARD and he was no more. We later tired of the blue teams’s, now, sheer fear of that side of the map and decided that now that everyone thinks Satan awaits them there, time to make a trip for the flag. We then proceeded to go get the flag. My team mate did in fact capture it once, and I ran cover all the times we tried. So what is so memorable about this battle? Well, it’s easy, shafts DON’T suck, and in groups, shafts really are scary, oh and rails too busy to play and rather shoot at team mates don’t capture flags, but shafts do. I had yet to play a coordinated “shelf” battle in Serpuhov before, and I can tell you my team mate said they’d probably never do it again because it was SO BORING after 5 minutes that they weren’t making a single crystal sitting there, so I guess I won’t be double teaming there much anymore, but you’ll find me still there, popping caps, and apparently pissing of team mates who don’t like shafts for no particular reason. I promise better stories, if I can recall to do that, that’s why I’m saying this here, now, because, well, it’s a memoir, a diary, maybe I’ll read it and see this sucks and the recall write better story next time (now to just remember to read this damn thing tomorrow)

Memoirs In The Fog

So playing Tanki is something I simply enjoy, immensely, which is rare for me, I’m not the type to get hung up on shooters, and yet this game is compelling. It has many aspects to it and reminds me of deeper game play sometimes found in more involved commercially available games. At the same time, it is distilled, without too much extra, so it’s not so much that to be involved you have to practically learn a manual. I play often enough now that I figured why not have a little fun with it and start a war diary of sorts. So I am. This is it. I play, I write. Nothing too grand probably, but I have been accused of being funny from time to time, so here goes, a semi blog if you wish of a shafter and his exploits, ordeals, and the occasional EPIC fail. Hope you guys enjoy it. A few requests also for those who follow: -

I will now tell you what doesn't make me mad in tanki anymore: Poor connections that dropped you and forced you to return to a game where you had held third or second place, or first for that matter, only to be reset to zero stats for that battle. This is a shout out to the developers that did the update the tracked the players participation in a battle, allowing them to rejoin, God bless you, this is heaven sent and maybe one of the best updates to date. It is MEANINGFUL, useful, and it REALLY SOLVED A PROBLEM. So, today, devs and all the rest of the team that had something to with this update, read this forum and feel good, not bad, because you guys really DID do something important for players and it is appreciated beyond words. -
Stabbing other tankers in the head with knives?
-
Ok, so, I read this and I can't help it. We don't necessarily see eye to eye on tanki, but this is something else. There must be a story here, and you HAVE TO SHARE. This down right hilarious. Stick a knife in your head? The hell did you say to get someone SO bent out of shape? I think some people need to chill, but then, some folks are good for comedic stories after the fact, such as this, so please, do share, I want know how someone got the point of wanting to shank your skull with a blade?

Update: Added a new Texan. Weegee, welcome.

You know, I never say it, but yeah, seems so strange to me how some folks just sem to know where the gold box will be, and others, well, they don't like me, always a mystery to me. Bothers me, I wish there was a way of tell from the start of the match, apparently some folks have it figured out anyways. -
An article detailing the map making process, maybe a multi-part story on the inception, the parameters and considerations taken into account, then the creation process, the testing, and final vetting of a map.

Update: Been real busy, haven't updated, but gain, many thanks to Htown for the content, nice to see people recalling what's important life.

IT's funny, I used to post on this thread. I feel almost like the creator of the thread, it seems like often the requests fall on ears that listen but don't do too much about it, yet they put lasers on shafts. All that aside though, something I have been noticing lately, and it could very well be simply lag, but in a number games as of late, when the opposition is simply formidable, there are moments when I am about to take a shot, it's clear I have it, I'm going to nail them, and the connection freezes. It lags for 5 to 10 seconds, and of course when my machine catches up, the shot is gone and I am invariably dead. It doesn't happen even a tenth of a time as often in other circumstances, such as watching or traveling, but when I have a shot on a target. It also seems to happen when my presence or the presence of a couple of players begins to shift the tide of battle, a flag or two captured quickly, or a suppression of the other teams ability to continue capturing ours. Is there a known hack that allows a player to interrupt another players data traffic, freezing them and giving that player/team an opportunity to destroy that person by the same situation created of lag and interruption?

And this is a good thing. Being the sword that cuts off the head of the monster is important. An otherwise impossible save of a flag is now completely within reach when the enemy is now without the powerhouse unit it expected to use to complete the task, be it the big armored beast that goes in and softens up, and or wipes out the defenders, or the oh so fast flag runner, picking apart the strength of the enemy drive leaves the rest of the team space to mop up.
-
Hear hear, I second this, though I do not agree with the laser period, but if we have them and they are there, this is the way to go, especially with the sitting duck. Even I'm guilty of "charging on target" and regretting it sometimes (I get excited, sitting ducks are just too much fun to NOT knock out if the game is already in your teams favor)

Update: Htown posted a shout out to Texas Independence day, check out post 79 and see it.

Well, that's Texan of you. Gonna have to watch all these now too. Thanks for that.

So I have placed a tree sprite with "Snap" off inside my "planter", aligned it, and then I roll the camera angle around it to see it from different directions then the one I placed it, and these shots show in order the placement and subsequent two angles and the offset I am seeing. http://imgur.com/EpmivXU http://imgur.com/QWA3bPq http://imgur.com/KHKv8Qu This shots were taken within Alternativa Editor. How do I keep the sprite centerline with the middle green circle of grass on the ground?

My apologies, I meant to say flag as in an element, a flag pole with a flag on it, not unlike the telephone pole. Maybe I'm mistaken, I haven't been at this for more than a year, Tanki that is, but I seem to recall one somewhere once. Maybe I am mistaken. I guess since I'm on the subject too, I had heard rumors of a litany of element props, cars, and things of that nature that were once available and now gone. I'll look at the Map Dev Kit first though, maybe all the gems I have been looking for are there. Thank you for the help though and I will post my issue up in pictures, my explanation and question might be better served in a picture rather than my limited vocabulary in terms of 3d map making, I'm not an expert by any means. I am glad to hear that someone would like to see the map too though, and I will definitely send it along for you to look at. Maybe I might be able to put it on test one day and see what folks think of it. I decided to go with very different experience in this make and try a layout that is not otherwise seen in Tanki to date, hopefully I hit a home run.

So I built a big map that I am still tweeking. I mess with something here, then there, TTT it, make sure everything is in it's place, etc, no "Holes", etc, so on and so forth. Finishing touches though. A question for developers and map makers alike. Sprites. So, pressed "N", turned off Snap to grid, all good. I carefully align my sprite tree where I want it, press spacebar, and I'm good, centered on the tile where I want it, so I move over to place the next one when I notice that the sprite I just placed is offset at this angle, I must have not placed it at the right depth, try again. Repeat this over about 10 tens, many angles, checks, repositions, and nothing, I cannot place it at an angle the remains centered on the tile location I want from all angles. What am I doing wrong? Also, Elements. I thought I had seen a flag somewhere once, but I can find none in the libraries. Also, the palm trees from Rio, I can't find those either. Where could I find those?

Yep, it was an easy fix to this day and age of credit card fraud. There was no worries with an online purchase from one of those cards. If Target can get hacked, sorry Tanki, you guys might be a internet business and very savvy, but you're resources are no match for the likes of determined gangs of hackers. That's why I won't buy with anything else except those kinds of cards online, even if I do pay 3 or 4 bucks extra to get them.

As always, wishing I had more time and more resources, but here it is in blueprint type form. Turret: Flechette Primary Role: Guided Missile Launcher -
So, again, another blind side. I login yesterday and there is an announcement. Tanki Online has removed several payment options. Hmmm. I get a 2x Card for my daily gift. I have a gift card I was waiting to use, that I had in fact bought specifically for Tanki. Well, I click the "Buy" button and tah dah, guess whats been REMOVED? Gift Cards. Yep, that's right, my humble little card is USELESS. No point in a diatribe about how this pisses me off (it does), BUT I can't figure out WHY. If someone is spending money, why don't they want it? More payment options is better than less. So tell me/us Tanki Online. Why did you can cancel this option, after all, this is good money being spent on a game, why force us into fewer payment options?
